I Always thought that it meant that you are tired...I dont know if that is just a hear say thing or what. but..i guess it sounds good.

I have this problem from time to time. Sometimes it occurs after I drink tea. I think the caffeine may bother it. I told my opthalmologist about it and he said to drink tonic water. The quinine (sp?) in tonic water should relax it. That usually does the trick for me.

All of these could be true. But I did just wake up from a nap and it is still happening. And I don't think I am going to cry but ya never know.
Just the same, don't you just love old wives tales? There is always some truth behind them and so much knowledge!:)

Lori, how weird! I have this problem, too. It's like a butterfly on speed is stuck in my eyelid. I have had this happen on and off over the years, and it is ALWAYS stress-related for me. When things calm down, the butterfly goes dormant!

I have heard that botox injections are used to control chronic twitching. I'd be worried about looking like Sylvester Stallone, though! :)

If I remember correctly from physiology class, the fancy word for these little twitches is 'fasciculation'. The nerves surrounding the muscle fibre are firing unneccesarily and contracting individual fibres involuntarily. It could have something to do with your potassium and calcium levels so maybe a kiwi and a glass of milk might help, couldn't hurt right. But then again I only know enough to be dangerous:+ :)

Lori,

Two years ago I went to the doctor becauses my eye had been twitching (right) for 6 months and it was driving me crazy! He seemed to think I needed an eye exam - I did have an eye exam and went through the process of getting contacts - they thought it was from eye strain.

I couldn't stand the eye contacts (hard) - so I never really used them, but within six months the eye twitching went away completely!

Well, it started back up again about two months ago - it can go on for days on end - before it was a slower more pronounced twitch, now it is a quicker less pronounced twitch. Does that make sense?

I thought at first maybe I had a symptom for some debilitating disease, now I just try to ignore it - sometimes that is hard especially when I am trying to go to sleep and I know my eye is twitching.

I don't know if this helped.

It happens to me, too, always on the left side. I think it always connected to one of these things for me: I'm very tired, I'm very stressed out, I've been staring at a computer screen or been in florescent lighting for too long. I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but at least you know you're not the only one!

I occassionally have a twitch in my left lower lid, too and I believe it's stress related. I went to an opthalmologist who recommended coral calcium. He told me if that didn't help, I could get a botox injection.

I've learned to deal with it as it doesn't happen as much anymore.;)

For me its not just if I am tired, but OVERLY tired. Like a few nights of not much sleep. And that sure can be stress related for me!...:)...Carole

Thanks girls. It was just one of those things where I was at work and I was thinking...hope no one notices.Sometimes it feels like it has been going on forever! It is now the morning after and it as happened since I have gotten up which means it will probably be with me all day again.I thought with a nights sleep it might disappear but I guess I was wrong.
Thanks again,
Lori:)

Eye twitches are most commonly associated with lack of sleep, stress, alcohol, or caffeine. If persistent, you can get a botox injection. ;-) ;-)
