UPDATE ON LEFT ARM PROBLEM

Well I went to the Dr. today about my left arm and she examined me and came to the conclusion that I have to go in for a MRI Wed. to scan my brain, she is concerned it could be signs of a stroke. She also said a pinched nerve or pulled muscle would be painful and I have no pain. I will keep you updated. I'm still a little shocked from the visit. I pray everything is allright. Lori

I'll be thinking of you too -- I know you must be feeling scared -- hope everything is Okay on Wed.

Lori, it's always best to err on the side of caution! I'm really glad you got in to see your doc. We'll all be thinking about you!!! Keep us updated, and take care!!!

All the best,

Lori,

I will certainly keep you in my prayers for a full a speedy recovery and that your diagnosis is found to be something much less severe than a stroke.

I hate to overstep my bounds but this is one time when I just can't help myself. I am NOT a doctor, but I am a nurse and I have had a pinched nerve, or herniated disc--whatever you wish to call it. I don't know your doctor--who s/he is or what his/her specialty is, but I can tell you most assuredly, you CAN have a herniated disc without pain. It depends on several factors, including whether or not your nerve is a little pinched (could be very painful), or if you have a compressed spinal cord (may not have any pain at all). I had the later which resulted in loss of muscle tone and atrophy, weakness (I could not grasp anything with my hand, or even turn the deadbolt lock on our door), but I didn't have any pain at all. This is not that unusual and an MRI is most definitely in order, and I sure hope thay get a good image of your cervical discs when they do it!

Hang in there--I don't mean to second guess your doctor, but I sure think there's room to consider a much less devasting event here than a stroke.

Ohhh, I know you must be scared....you'll be in my thoughts and prayers....hopefully he was giving you the worse case senario......Take care,

Donna

Thank you everyone for your support and prayers it means alot to me. Michele thank you also for your advice it helps to see your side. I will keep everyone posted. Thanks again Lori

I too am not a doctor but I dont think it is a stroke either. I think there would be more neurologic symptoms that just your left arm even if you did have a stroke. I too think it is a disc in your neck (cervical).

Went today for my MRI wont know anything they said for 24hrs. or so. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do for upper body work that doesnt involve weight? I dont want to lose any progress in my upper body while trying to figure out whats wrong with my arm. Thank You, Lori

I would suggest waiting to hear the results of the MRI (only 24 hrs right?) before trying anything too intense in terms of exercise. However, you might consider kickboxing as it can be a great workout for the upper body.
Best wishes!
Mattea

Lori,

Don't be concerned about upper body exercises right yet. Wait for the report.

A man I worked with had the same symptoms as you did, and it took a lot of testing to learn it was a nerve issue. His arm just went absolutely limp.....I can't remember exactly what the diagnosis was, but it wasn't a stroke, and he fully recovered.

Thoughts and prayers for a full recovery for you....

Julie

Lori, I would hold off on exercise until you find out what's going on.
You're in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted.
