update on broken foot

Winter

Cathlete
HI All,

Thanks for all you advise and posts to my broken foot woes. My broken foot is healed but a new problem has come from it. It is pain in the ball of my foot - the whole area behind the big foot. As I research it seems like metatarasalgia. I did go see the foot doc and he made a slip on support and that really helped. Now that is is not longer usable the pain is back. I have bought an insert where the support is velcro and can be moved to the right spot. I can't find that spot.

Does anyone else know how to deal with this? I has been 5 months and I have gained weight. I really want to get back to a normal routine.

I appreciate any advise. The foot doc said it would be good to get specially made orthotics $250. I am 32 - will I have this the rest of my life that I need orthotics?

PS: Winter has hit in northern MN. Temps are going to be 30+ below zero over the next few nights brrrrrrrr.

I am so sorry Winter. You sure have had a tough time the past few months and, now this! I wish I could help. If you stopped in to see the doctor could he help you with the velcro insert? I can understand your frustration of weight gain/not normal workouts and also the pain you have been in. I hope someone can pop in here that is familiar with this. Keep us posted. Ohio had 70* weather today and right now it is snowing like crazy! It is suppose to be a high of 20 tomorrow. Brrrrr!

Hi, Winter. I love my orthotics and without them, I would be unable to do much of what I can. After my arch collapsed, I thought I would have to give up running but I ended up running a marathon in '99 after racing monthly all year long and they've been wonderful. You may or may not need them forever but, for the moment, give them a try and see if the support doesn't get you back on your feet. If proper support heals your problem, you may be able to retire them. If not, they really aren't as big a pain as you might think. I hope you find a solution whatever you decide. You must be very frustrated after 5 month of not working out! I say give them a try. The support might just be needed temporarily but I would hazard a guess that it could get you working out again! Good luck!
