Just got this email from my friend about her niece who you were sending good vibes last week...
My baby is doing very good. She had her colostomy done on monday and she's pooping like crazy, a trait she picked up from her father and paternal grandmother, I'm proud to say. And she is very active and quite fussy, and if she didn't have the tubes down her throat she'd be screaming her blessed head off. She's very grumpy. But it's so encouraging to see her eyes open and moving around and having a scrunched up baby face and all fussy and active; she is going to be OK. I met her surgeon who was very confident that her stomach/esophogus surgery on friday afternoon will go swimmingly. The only adverse effect that Isabela may experience is some acid reflux a few months down the road but the surgeon seemed to think it would be easily treatable. other that that this will be her only surgery for a long time. We have to learn how to catheterize her for urine and clean up her colostomy because that's the way its going to be until the other openings happen. Yowza, what a high maintenance baby! I don't care I just want to hold her. Her projected release date from the hospital is in about 4 to 5 weeks. Isabela will have spent the first 6 weeks of her life in the NICU. Thankfully my sister in law will have been able to heal and get some rest before the whirlwind hits of feedings and 2am colostomy clean-ups... Thank you Everyone for your well wishes and thoughts going out to my beautiful little baby. She's a lucky little baby because of all of you! I can't wait for you to meet her! She's going to be so cool!
