Uhhh... One Leg Sit and Stands?

Okay, what am I doing wrong?! Are these impossible for anyone else? I could barely get up off my chair when I did STS disc 6 yesterday. It was a little easier on my left leg than my right... I'm probably just a weakling :)

Anyone else?

Thanks,
Wendy

Your not the only one. The second time around I was able to get up maybe a hair. My legs endurance is bad. When I can't do anymore I just do sit and stand with both legs.

I'm definately a weakling here on THAT exercise! So much so that I didn't even try them! I am working through knee issues SO those are not going to happen any time soon for me! I just did regular sit/stands with NO leg lifts and that was enough for me... If I really feel like making it more challenging, I will start holding a DB or something like that...

You are NOT alone :)

Thanks guys. I went over to VideoFitness and read through an STS check-in, and it seems that tons of people are struggling with this one... I wonder if anyone has any tips as to how to improve on this insane exercise. Of course, Cathe and crew make it look so easy!

This is so funny! I was going to start a thread asking if anyone can do this one legged and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one! Now a two leg sit and stand with a barbell like in Pure Strength-no problem. I wonder why the one leg is so impossible?

Well, I haven't done it yet so I can't say for sure, but maybe you need a higher chair! Or put a cushion on yours to give you a little boost. It's not cheating if you absolutely can't do it the other way, and it may give you the little help that you need to do the exercise properly.

Something to look forward to!

I just tried it using my strangely tall coffee table instead of a chair, and I was actually able to do it! My chair is between 16 and 18 inches high. My coffee table is more like 20.
I guess even just attempting the move yesterday was engaging the right muscles, because when I just now practiced them on the table, I could feel exactly which muscles I worked yesterday--deep, deep in that little old glute... (not really so little, actually.)

Its hard as heck!! I was leaving the heel of the non working leg touching the ground. Not putting my weight on it, but letting it lightly touch and stabilize me. It seemed to help. Also, not standing ALL the way up. When I first tried I was standing all the way up, then I realize Cathe wasn't and corrected that. My problem is the balance on the way up, and controlling the movement on the way down, instead of "plopping" into the chair. Because after STS legs, plopping is exactly what I want to do!!;):)

I had problems with that one too, and I was only using one 20-lb dumbbell! Never was able to keep the non-working leg totally elevated; I always had to use its heel to brace a bit when going to the stand position.

Ah well . . . another goal!

Just like doing one-legged squat-thrust-jumps without shooting myself into the wall!

I had 'issues' at first too. I tried doing it differently two ways....once with my elevated foot's heal on the ground just a bit, and then with that heal on my med ball. Both worked well!

I found using a taller chair made a huge difference. I was trying to do it off my couch and no way!

I also touched my big toe to the ground and was still able to really fry the working leg even with a little support. This is going to be one of those exercises that bug me til I can get it right.
That and the Elmo Pushups! ;)
