Two questions for runners

Hello! I hope there are some experienced runners in this "educated crowd" who can advise me! I have recently added running (on a treadmill) to my fitness routines and am really enjoying it. I've been doing a gradual, progressive walk/run program given to me by a friend. It is specifically designed for the treadmill, and I really like it. However, I will soon be looking for new challenges. So my first question is, where can I find some more good (beginning to advanced beginning level) running programs to train with?

Second question: For Christmas, I asked my husband for one of those MP3 players you can wear on your arm and run with, to keep me entertained as I start extending my runs a bit. I have reason to believe he is going to get it for me. :) So, what kind of music is a good accompaniment to running? I love using Cathe's Intensity Series cd on the elliptical, but I'm not sure how it would be for running. All ideas are welcome (including advice on related questions I may not have thought to ask... such as your experiences with these armband type MP3 players, or making music mixes for fitness activities, etc.).

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi, for your first question I would go to www.runnersworld.com They have some great training programs. I have never run on a treadmill before, so I can't help you there.
As far as music goes I like something a little heavier when I am running. I don't know why, but I do. I was really liking Kylie Minogue for a while, but then I got burned out on the one CD that i have of hers. I was also running to Aerosmith for a while. Then I switched big time and went to Korn. Now I don't use musci if I run, I bring my dog and he keeps me pretty occupied and the run goes fast. I think that anything upbeat is great for running. But the Kylie Minogue CD was great because there really wasn't a slow tune in it. It was the cd with the song from the Ballys Commercials, I think that the name of it is either "Come into my room" or "come" I'm really not sure which. Sorry I don't have it with me to look either.

I'm sure there are others that will have more ideas for you!

Wow....I could be Kathy!!! I'd suggest www.runnersworld.com also. They have a Couch to 5K program that I have heard is good for beginners. Try www.coolrunning.com too. I don't listen to music when I run either. I think it's too dangerous and I want to hear what is around me. But on a treadmill I definitely would use music!! Kylie is also one of my favorites along with Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Aerosmith, INXS and another type of music I really like using my Nordic track is Disco....:)...Carole

Hello,
your first question has been answered very well.
As for music, I don't listen to any, but I'm going to cuz my dh is getting me one of the MP3 too!! I'm so excited. But, anyway, I looked at collageviedo.com and looked at their music. They have some cd's made for running. I ordered some, but I haven't received them yet. I hope this helps!

take care:)

Thanks for the responses, everyone! I got some great training ideas from both the runner's world and cool running websites, and will explore music options at collagevideo and elsewhere. Gloria, that's funny you're getting an MP3 player too! What thoughtful DH's we have! :D
