TV SHOWS - BIGGEST LOSER AND WORKOUT

vikinyc

Cathlete
I'm a fan of both THE BIGGEST LOSER and WORKOUT (on BRAVO).

On both shows, I sometimes see them wearing a ring on a black cord around their necks. Does this have something to do with the equipment?

Anyone?

Viki

I think it has to do with the micraphone situation.... That is what I have always thought - so it doesnt look so obvious.... COuld be totally off on that one...

ETA - I cant wait for workout to start... I have always enjoyed that show and loved the little teaser they are airing now with the new trainers...

If we're thinking of the same thing, I think it's the heart monitor. Whenever I watched Workout, I noticed the people on the treadmill and other cardio equipment wore them and not the trainers. In fact, I think one of the trainers mentioned the heart rate monitors during a training session.

Another "Biggest Loser" question

Hey y'all, if you'll allow me to momentarily hijack this thread, I've been meaning to ask something about "Biggest Loser" -- and I don't mean for what I'm gonna ask to take ONE IOTA away from the contestants' incredible accomplishments. This season DH and I have become total "BL" addicts and are in awe of these people, honestly.

But having said that -- Has anyone else noticed some significant form issues when they show the contestants training with a barbell or dumbbells?

I've been really surprised by this since the first night we watched the show. It seemed to me that Bob and Jillian would have been especially careful about form with trainees who were obviously new to weight-training and, at that early stage, were particularly vulnerable to injury. And yet I thought the contestants' form was often just terrible. It doesn't seem to have been corrected much, either -- on last night's episode my DH and I both noticed the same thing again. DH at one point said "Geez, Cathe would not like THAT form, would she?" A few minutes later there was a shot of the Blue Team guys doing pushups during their "Last Chance Workout" -- OMG.

What do you guys think?

RE: Another

ME ME ME...I noticed Kathy!

Just last night, I said to DH "I can't believe they are letting them do those that way?!?!". I can't remember what exercise they were doing, exactly, but it doesn't really matter because they have really bad form on almost all of the exercises they perform.

The pushups were just PITIFUL!! I wouldn't even call them pushups.

I figured they would get better as time went on, but I don't see them improving. And I don't think I've ever seen the trainers talk about form.

Cathe needs to be a trainer on BL!!!

RE: Another

Me tooo! Love BL, but their push-ups were terrible and did you notice the gal sitting on the bench doing side-to-side oblique work with DB's? An injury waiting to happen. I could not believe Mark walking on TOP of the BOSU's all lined up with HUGE DB's in his hands as he was slipping and sliding off the sides. YIKES! But, I still love the show. I think/hope Mark or Dan will win!

Deb! SHOUT OUT AND BIG HUGS!!!

You are so right about all of the things you noticed. And Mark-- the BOSUs -- OMG, how could I not mention that? I'm telling you, my ankles hurt just watching him. He was so distracted that it's a miracle he didn't fall and turn an ankle or break his already-stress-fractured leg!

Another thing from last night -- I noticed this b/c I've been dealing with a little bit of Achilles tendonitis, as you know (it's improving! :)): The challenge on the treadmills! Walking backwards must have been REALLY hard on their Achilles as the treadmills were speeded up, the elevation was increased and they went on for AN HOUR!!!

I'm not so fond of Dan, actually, but Kenny likes his cockiness. We loooooooved Brittany and Bernie and were so sad to see them go. And we didn't like him at first, but we've become very fond of Mark (Kenny just cracks up -- affectionately -- at what a weeper Mark has turned out to be! :)) and we're glad he's back. We also like Jay and we LOVE Roger's "Sweet Home Alabama" accent. So many good people this time, really!

Melissa, I agree 100% with everything you say!!! :)

If Cathe ever had time to watch this show, I'll bet she'd be shocked at what Bob and Jillian allow without any comment. And I hate that because I LIKE Bob and Jillian!!

P.S. ANOTHER BL question re: Jillian & Brittany

Hey you guys,

WHAT was Jillian thinking, to add a lot of sodium to Brittany's diet last week as a method of accelerating her weight loss??? Can anybody here give me an educated explanation of that? I immediately thought "Well, she'll retain water like crazy" and sure enough, the poor little thing lost 2 lbs after working like a dog and ended up going home.

RE: P.S. ANOTHER BL question re: Jillian & Brittany

Well..that seems to be the case every week with Brittany, she loses 2 lbs after working like a dog not matter what she does. I think they were just trying to flush her system the next week, or something. Going high in the sodium and then low, maybe. But she had to make it thru the first week, and did not.

RE: P.S. ANOTHER BL question re: Jillian & Brittany

I'm so with you all on this! I mentioned the push-ups to my husband (he just rolled his eyes), but seriously, that was pathetic! Drop to your knees if your so tired you can't do it with good form! I can't believe that went uncorrected.

And walking with 40's in each hand on Bosu's? That was ridiculous! It didn't seem safe at all. I was waiting for him to sprain his ankle.

I have noticed the form during almost ALL the exercises and can't believe it never has gotten better. I don't get it--these are supposed to be expert trainers and they aren't even stressing proper form????

RE: P.S. ANOTHER BL question re: Jillian & Brittany

I was thinking last night that maybe Brittany has some issue to why she can't loose, like health related, or certain body chemistry.

It's crazy how every body is so differnet!

RE: P.S. ANOTHER BL question re: Jillian & Brittany

I said something about the push ups to my husband too and his response was they are exhausted and can't do full push ups.

Did anyone notice how they were cheesely advertising in the show. Bob and Dan with his one a day's and Ally at the Brita table at the gym? I just wanted to barf! Another thing that gets me retarded is how they always promote those over priced 100 calorie snack packs. How conveinient they are and just 100 cals, hmmm doritos, oreos, and other tastsy foods that got you fat in the first place. Grab a frickin apple people!

Ahhh feel better for venting.

I like Workout but rarely see it. They were showing it during the weekend and I was wondering, what did Doug die of? He sounded like a most amazing person. Thanks.

RE: Another

I believe that the producers tell the trainers to think of the craziest, most outlandish exercise that they can think of. I cannot believe that those trainers would purposely continue with those exercises when their form suffers like that.

I just hope "uneducated" people don't try those exercises and really hurt themselves.

I believe he died of some rare cancer that both his parents died of when they were in their 40's. He was so happy that he had passed their ages but died shortly thereafter. He knew he was very sick.
What a shame; such a nice man.
