Turbo Tower/STS Push Pull Tower

Cathlete
Hi Cathe! Can you tell me if the tower will be available for sale again? I will be doing STS soon but can't do pull ups/chin ups at all. Thank you!

Unfortunately I believe it has been discontinued, alot of people have been asking about it but I'm pretty sure Altus is not making it anymore :(

You will see it again. Altus no longer carries this, but we've been working on a redesign of the Turbo Tower. Not sure when we will have this ready though.

SNM, thanks for the update and the WONDERFUL news!! I am thrilled to hear this will be available again. I may postpone starting STS again until it gets here, as I think I would get even more out of the program if I had the turbo tower to use.

I need a second one of these and will be waiting to purchase it the moment it's available.

Thank you for the information.

Janie

That had been my fervent hope - that it would be redesigned and reissued! I'm hoping to start STS soon - within a couple of months - so I'll keep a weather eye out!

Thank you! I love how Cathe & staff listens to your Cathletes and finds a way to accommodate our needs/wants :) I will be on the look out for the new tower!

I have the turbo tower and the one thing it lacks is squat rack capabilities. SNM, do you think that the new tower will be able to be used as a squat rack as well?

So glad to read this. I just ordered STS and want to aquire all the equipment needed before I start it. I need a barbell set and the tower--I have everything else, including STS now!

Waiting patiently...

Turbo Tower

SMS, know that I, too, am waiting patiently for the newly resigned tower. I'm so pleased to hear another will be coming out. It will be some time before I start the STS program, but I already had a substitute in mind, although more expensive than Cathe's tower. The Valor's Athletic BD-9 Stand is around $180 - $200 before a 10% to 25% discount I have found depending on where you purchase it. Unlike Cathe's Turbo Tower, this tower can be used as a squat rack, bench press, and pullup stand, you can adjust the height, and it holds up to 600 lbs. It also doesn't take up much room and can easily be adjusted to fit nearly any space, width wise, in that the two towers are not connected to one another. So I hope that the new design can do all of this as well.

I wonder why it was discontinued. I have the old one and have been very happy with it. Were there issues with it and that's why it is being redesigned or is it copy right issues?

What a versatile piece of equipment for Home exercisers...Living in UK I would not even dream of such equipment. We really are so restricted in choice here Grrr:mad::mad::mad:

I reckon Cathe's upcoming tower will eventually be versatile. Fans are going to be happy for sure :D

Well, how necessary is the turbo tower (or similar equipment) for STS? I'm going to start STS within the week (doing all my 1RMs now!!!) and want to be sure that I have everything necessary to make this program a success for me. Y'all are worrying me with all this turbo tower talk. ;-)
(although, in all honesty, I'm prob going to order the newly redesigned one as soon as its available!!)

Turbo tower

To sunsdaughter,

Please do not worry...

BTW, I have not got a turbo tower. Living in UK, I can't even imagine what shipping cost add up to! I am having a weight bench with ankle rest attachment, decline/incline option, preacher curl attachment...

I live on my own and one day I got myself stuck underneath my barbell going heavier than usual :D:D:D.

It certainly won't happen again. No injury thanks goodness! Having said that I know I can , with good form, lift working out with safety catch for the barbell.

Now it is up to you. Depending how heavy you lift and on what you want to achieve throughout the program you may or not need a turbo tower. The turbo is popular cause it is versatile and enable to perform pull/chin ups.Alternative would be heavy tubing.

All the best,

nathalie

Heavy tubing

Is the heavy tubing tubing as a pull up modifier used in the same way that it is used in P90X? In P90X, if you don't have a pull up bar, you use the door attachment to have your tube hanging from the top of the doorway and rather then doing pull "ups" you're basically doing pull "downs."

Thx Nathalie!!
I have a bench, so I guess I'll be ok. :)
Whew!

Tubing with door attachment

Is the heavy tubing tubing as a pull up modifier used in the same way that it is used in P90X? In P90X, if you don't have a pull up bar, you use the door attachment to have your tube hanging from the top of the doorway and rather then doing pull "ups" you're basically doing pull "downs."

I have not done P90X but I presume it could be similar to cathe's tubing. There must be demos on Cathe's TV on how to use tubing as a turbo tower substitute.
I will personally start my pull up with tubing, later on I will purchase a portable pull up doorway attachment.

Jengolf, would you mind sharing with us your thoughts on tubing for pull ups?;)

tubing for pull ups

First let me describe my workout room. It is a room that was added onto the house by previous owners. It is a large room with two "doors"--one is a door to the back yard (so that cannot be used for a door pull up station) and the other is French doors leading into the living room--so again, no way to mount a pull up bar (very wide doorway). Also, because it is an add on room, it isn't constructed the same as the rest of the house--the ceilings are lower. Although I own a pull up station, it is in the garage--the ceiling in the workout room is too low. So it doesn't fit in that room. And finally, because the room was added on, we don't feel comfortable mounting a pull up bar to the ceiling.

When I first did P90X, I couldn't do a single pull up anyway, so the matter was moot. Nevertheless, I bought the pull up station and a doorway pull up bar (for when the weather was too hot or cold for the garage, I'd do it in the doorway of another room). My goal was that even though I didn't do traditional pull ups during the P90X workouts, I would work on pull ups in my own time.

So I used the bands during the workouts. I got the heaviest bands Beachbody offered (40 and 50 pounds I think; I started with 40 and was using 50 by the end of the program). I connected them at the top of the French doorway and used those instead of doing pull ups. Personally, I felt that it was a great substitute. They burned out my back/arms when I used them rather than "attempting" to do pull ups. By the time I finished 90 days of P90X I was able to do 2 full pull ups from a regular pull up bar. No, that's not a lot of pull ups, but it was an accomplishment for me!

I will add that P90X also showed another modification for people who do have a pull up bar by the TV but cannot do a full pull up. You have a chair nearby and you rest one (or two) toes/feet on it to take some of the weight.

In addition, there are also straps you can purchase called Pull-up Revolution (Amazon.com: Lifeline USA Pullup Revolution: Sports & Outdoors) Which seem to me like an excellent way to modify if you have a pull up bar but cannot do a full pull up. In fact, I've been thinking about getting one since I haven't spent time doing pull ups since I finished P90X--so who knows if I can still do one.

After typing all that tho, I am more interested in getting a Turbo Tower and doing the pull up modification that way, since I have never heard of doing one in that manner and it seems like great way to modify--plus the tower is multifunctional!
