"Tuna Burgers"???

I was making my lunch today and wondered if any of you have ever heard of these. When I was growing up, these were a staple. Now, they're a pretty good comfort food. It's been gray outside all day today (pretty unusual for me in CA) and cold, so I made some for myself.

1 can cream of celery soup
1 can tuna
dried minced onion
dried parsley flakes
Mix it all up and spread it on toasted bread. Then put them in a 350 degree oven for 8-12 minutes, until the tops look a little brown.

The recipe seems so bizarre to me! I can't believe we ate them. My parents are from the Midwest so I always thought it originated there.

Anyone heard of these or anything like it?

Hi Amy.

Sounds quite tastey actually! Thanks for the idea!

We eat tunfish cakes which are kind of similar...
I take tuna and mix it up as if I were going to make a meatloaf (onion, egg, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper to taste) and form them into small patties and fry them in olive oil/a butter substitute or a fat free cooking spray. :9 Maybe I'll try baking mine next time!

Wendy- First of all, I just looked at your latest photos. The only thing I can say is, looking at those makes me want to have a child!! Which is very rare for me. My fave is of course all your boys asleep. :D

I like the tuna/meatloaf idea. I might try that with some canned crabmeat and salmon I have in the cupboard- not just tuna. Hmm. Lots of possibilities! Thanks for sharing!

Sounds pretty good to me to. I make a couple dishes with cream of celery soup. Pork chops are my favorite, baked for about three hours on low with a side of mash potatoes and biscuits. Yum yum. Not to healthy though.

Hi I make them all the time the way that Wendy makes them. can tuna, eggs,a little of mayo, bread crumbs and eat them on a whole grain roll with sweet relish. Also I've tried was instead of bread crumbs I use Instant Mashed Potato mix because one time I didn't have bread crumbs so I use the Instant instead.

RE:

My mom used to make them and I used to make them from time to time. More often I make salmon patties.

Hi Amy,

I've never had what you made but it sounds good. My mom used to make the same thing Wendy makes but she called them tuna patties. She would serve them up with a salad and roasted potatoes, or boiled potatoes with butter and parsley. My gosh, I haven't had that in years. I think I'm going to make them this weekend!:9 :p
