TTC/Preggers Week of June 1st

Hi Girls,
77 posts on last week's forum-wow!!! I thought I'd start a fresh, new one since we may have some new friends joining us.
It's hot and humid here in central PA, and I spent almost all day running after DS (phew)!
Lastnight, I took a really long walk, while listening to Madonna's new album.
O.K., this next thing is coming from someone who has NEVER been into video games (me). My DH talked me into getting XBox 360 a few months ago so we can play Rock Band. And, that game is really neat, but I am not into anything else offered for XBox, although he loves some football game that he plays late at night. Anyway, I really would like to check out the Wii system (funny how I had wanted that in the first place;) ). They can't be found anywhere! So, my question is...does anyone have a Wii, and what do you like about it? Did you see the Wii fitness? I don't know about that. I am just thinking about getting something fun for the summer nights when DS goes to bed, and DH and I don't have work and can stay up. The games offered look pretty neat (for the Wii). I NEVER thought I'd be interested in a video game system since I sold my Atari back in the late 80s!

I have been so curious about maternal age lately. I guess it's because it's becoming a reality that I may want a 3rd child. I grew up in a family of 3 kids, so that's something I have always wanted. We got a late start at 29-just about 30 with DS #1, and DS #2 will be born in October, when I will be 33. If we decide to have another one, I will most likely be 35-36 at that time. It's so nice to know that it has worked out for many of you to have your children in your mid-late 30s (40s). I want to think that I will stay young and energetic forever! As for my mom, and the generation of women before us, it was very uncommon to have children into the 30s. My mom started when she was 19 with my brother, my sister was born when she was 21, and I was born when she was 25.

Take care! Boy, was I ever long-winded!
-Jen

Jen, No video games here, but hte Wii does look like fun. As far as maternal age - I was 22 when I had DD1, 24 for DD2, and I'll be 28 for DD3. We're thinking about #4, so maybe 30 or 31???

Bad news on the ab pain. My midwife confirmed today that I do have diastasis. I am so bummed. Need to go back and read the threads about it.

Jen~ I have a Wii and it is super fun. I am not sure about the Wii fit though. I picture that being more of those that do zero activty now.. maybe I am wrong though. I don't imange it being on the level of cathe. LOL We have the Wii sports, Wii play, playground and something else.. I forget now. The sports is fun.. boxing, tennis, bowling, baseball, and golf. The boxing can really work up a sweat and I enjoy the bowling and tennis for a little competition w/ DH.

As for maternal age.. I was 23 when I had my first, 25 when I had my dd, 27 when I had my 3rd and I'll be 29 when I have this one. I always thought I'd have my kids young, but I married when I was 20 so that is why.. if I had married later I would have had a later timeline. I don't think 35-36 is old at all. It is all in how you take care of yourself. I see 30 year old now where near as healty/energetic as some 50 year olds so really if you keep active and make fitness a priority I think it will be fine!

Kate~ I forgot to comment on the abs. I know there are specific ab work that can be done to help it. I have no tried that as I am planning to have it fixed with my c/s. That might be something to consider if you need a c/s.. From what I have heard it's fairly easy to pull them back together and stitch them up. Maybe it's a 3rd child thing because I didn't have it happen till my third. :-( sorry to hear this is what is going on with you too.

Trish - We married young too - I was 19!!! One of my sisters is 18 - if she were planning her wedding that would be off-the-charts wierd! LOL! No c-section here (I sure hope anyway!). A PT friend of mine gave me a great article tonight that I need to read more in depth. Still not happy though!!

Morris, Are you doing any ab stuff right now? I'm even worried about kickboxing, as we all know that gives our abs a nice workout. I feel so helpless and ....ugh!!!x(

Jen - We have the Wii and it's a lot of fun. It's good for young kids also because a lot of the games are family friendly and not violent like PS3 and XBox games. As far as maternal age, I had ds at 26, dd at 28 and now with this one, I'll be 35 when I give birth. I must say that pg is a lot more tiring at this age then in my 20's.

Kate - Sorry about the diastisis, but at least you got it diagnosed. Hope it doesn't get too bad. What did your midwife suggest?

Hi Trish!

What a day. Every beach we went to today was full, full, full. We ended up coming home and spraying the kids down with the hose in the driveway. I'm pooped now. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Lisa

Oh Lisa, the beach sounds so nice!!! Full beaches are no fun though. DH bought DDs this giant inflatable waterslide that we technically could go down and have a blast. (I think he bought it more for himself than them!;-) ). Midwife just said "don't do ab exercise!" It wasn't an appt. She just happened to be there so I asked her. I go on Tuesday so hopefully I'll get more answers then. I'm scared to lift weights or anything. Tonight I did Classical Stretch, Monday I'll go to water aerobics, and I'll wait to see what to do Tuesday night, but I'm gonna be itchin' for some MuscleMax by then!!!

I just ordered waaaaaay too much maternity clothes from Gap and Old Navy. Also ordered a tee from 2chix that says "tickled pink" and is hot link. I am just a *little* excited to be having another girl!;-) :7 Can anybody tell?!?

I am tired too. I don't know if it's my age (37) or the fact I am chasing 3 other kids around. As for my maternal age, my first child was born at 29, 2nd at 31, 3rd at 34 and with this one, I'll be 37. We married when I was 28.

We have a WiiFit. The kids love it. Even the 2 year old can play (there's a running section). As for me, I use it occasionally. The yoga poses are decent and the board can sense where you are making mistakes. It's certainly not as hard as "real" yoga, but it nice to have. The strength training seems somewhat challenging, but the cardio is way easy. There's also a fun balance section; my husband is obsessed with tightrope walking and heading soccer balls.

The game only starts you off with 5 or so exercises in each category and you have to earn enough points to unlock the remaining 10 or so. Thus, I have no idea what the remaining exercises are like. It keeps track of your weight, balance, etc. Despite my pregnancy weight gain, it only categorized me as overweight rather than obese, so that made me feel good. I recommend Wii for family fun, but it's no substitute for a well stocked home video library. We also love Wii Big Brain Academy and Mama's kitchen.

Jen- we also have an XBOX with Rock Band. My kids love that too. My 7yo sings vocals, I play the drums and my husband plays guitar. And if that weren't enough, husband has a new playstation and also games on his computer; he's very proud he just beat the game on Grand Theft Auto 4. It must sound like I'm married to a juvenile, but it (kind of) is part of his job.

ETA: trish- with the ultrasound with gus, the tech was absolutely sure it was a girl. She said she saw girl parts and even joked with my husband about being outnumbered. I never believed her and a u/s at the end revealed Gus was indeed a boy. With this pregnancy, I've gotten 2 more u/s after 20 weeks, so I trust the techs and doctors a bit more. It really doesn't matter to me anyway.

Hi ladies. I have to try to get to know everyone again. ;)

As for myself, I'm feeling very "pg", fatigued, hormonal, overwhelmed, and not quite used to the idea yet. I have not answered phone calls of good friends as I don't want to even talk about it right now. Everytime I look at my kids I get excited b/c my heart swells so much with my love for them. I just love being a mom, I just hoped I could be around more to enjoy them---I never thought it'd take this long to sell our other house. It's really taking a toll on me. It's been a real act of faith to count on God to give me energy last few months to work so many hours, it's going to be even a greater act of faith while pg. Ahhhh, sorry, don't want to sound like a downer, just not 100% into reality yet. It's a good think I have eight more months!!!!

Jen, I was 18 when we got married. I'll be 35 in July. I've really felt much older this year. I as 20 when I had our 1st son, and much easier on the body and endurance system then my last at 33. We always said we'd be done my "35" so I suppose this is it.

Trish, I never had diastasis, but I think I remember Cathe stating that she did with one of her kiddso? Might want to research that a bit. I've never been one to work on my abs when I'm pg. ;)

Kristan, I'm glad I"m not the oldest on posting. ;) ;) ;)

Oh, my workouts:
I got 5 workouts in last week 3 runs & 2 Amy Bento. I really like Amy Bento (just preordered her newest). Since Cathe has gone more strength orientated (and I"m a cardio junkie) I've ventured out & have been really pleased with her. ;)

NOW who's long winded?!!!!!!

Kristan, Thanks for the detailed info on all the gamiing stuff! I'm sure we'l be forced into it as our girls get older but for now we don't have anything.

Melanie, Glad you're feeling pregnant, even if it's hard sometimes. Cathe did have diastasis, but I'm still confused about what is safe and what's not. There is conflicting research everywhere you look.

I think I'm going to water aerobics tonight at the HS pool - if one of my sisters can go with me. We're always the youngest ones there by (I promise) 50 years. I don't want to go alone - it would be no fun. If I don't do that maybe I'll do Bar or CS. I'm scared to exercise at this point! But I also don't want to be totally unconditioned of Cathe stuff for the RT and have to wuss out at tall of the classes. ugh, this stinks!:)

busy busy morning!! lots of posting, and so much exciting news.

jen, that is awsome you are thinking of a 3rd already. i had my 1st at 29, this summer, after ds2 is born i will be 32. not sure i will go for numebr 3 at all. i would want to wait at least 3 years, and it is so complicated with my lack of hormones. famous last words....

kate, so sorry about the diastasis. mine never hurt at all, it is just a tiny pucker i noticed. i have not been doing ab work for the last 4 weeks, but i do a lot of kbing and haven't worried much. maybe i should?? i guess i would worry more if it hurt. i have not cut back on weights - finshed a 3wk heavy rotation and am now on week 2 of gym styles. doesn't seem to bother me. i will be interested in whatever info you find out. my doc is not superhelpful. just said to wait and see what i end up with!

kristan, sorry you are feeling tired. i am right there with you, but i have to say, my energy is higher than it was 3 weeks ago. i was wondering how far apart your youngest will be from this baby? also, do you plan to go back to work? how long will you take off?

melanie, i am so happy to see you here but completely understand fi you are not jumping for joy yet. you are feeling it inside, i think, but it may take a while to adjust. you have time! i missed the amy preorder and am bummed! great workouts this week.

hi lisa. the beach sounds so nice to me too. how are you feeling? is anything feeling particularly good these days when you work out?

okay, i need to whine. i miss running. this am was day 5 of not running. i have not taken that long a break sice i was pregnant with ds. i almost pushed it today but am afraid to hurt myself. ended up doing 10/10/10 and drill max drills only. i will try tomorrow i think. i just miss how running feels and am already getting tired of all my otherworkouts. dh and i had a lot of "discussions" this weekend, and i feel emotionally drained and not real happy about it. i feel like we are going into this delievery and new born stage without being exactly in tune and that is kind of overwhelming. anyways, i guess all i can do is try very hard and pray.

kate, by the way, what is cs? what is bar? hope the water aerbics is fun.

ok, I thought I would join, I feel so rotten this am that I am dying or just pregnant! I should be starting 6 weeks today...
Jen-I think the younger you can have your kids the better for you. I had dd at 28, ds at 30 and ? at 35. It does NOT get any easier.
Kate-I had diastasis with ds and it never fully resolved. I still have a terrible "crater".
Kristan-hang in there, it will get better. I am glad that you are in your 30's like me!!
Melanie-I am secretly juming for joy for you. We are almost the exact same gestational age. Have you had a sonogram yet? somehow i think when a see a little heart beat I'll feel better. By the way, Melanie is one of the names I have picked out, along with Miranda and Samantha.
Lisa-I would love the beach, but since I am already feeling like a beached whale, I don't think I will go for a long while.

I do have a concern, we are going to DisneyWorld in 2 weeks. I'll be 8 weeks then, God willing, and if past history serves correct, I will probably be in a bad way as far as morning sickness and fatigue. Any tips?

Hi ladies. This AM I got up early, got my sports bra & running shoes on & then just sat there. I decideded that I didn't feel like running. So I didn't do anything but stare at computer. I've never done THAT before. Curious, isn't it? Oh well, maybe if I have energy after work tonight (although I never have had nrg b4 after work).

Welcome Mikkia! DisneyWorld? Yahoo! That sounds like fun. I have zero morning sickness, usually doesn't start until week 8 or so for me. I haven't scheduled anything yet. I probably won't go in until about 12-13 weeks or so. I'm the kinda lady who just wants to be left alone medically when I'm pg. I'll get an u/s around 20 weeks or so to confirm dating and everything. We'll have a C/S (my last two were).

Morris, hang in there, you're really close!!!

Hi I thought I would introduce myself. I have been lurking since I found out I was pregnant and am now 20 weeks so it's now or never. My name is Candra I have two boys 6 & 4 and I am expecting another boy :) I share the same due date as Kate October 18th. My last two were a full week over due so we'll see.

Adding to the maternal age discussion is was 23 with ds1 and 26 with ds2 I will be 30 when this baby is born. This is definitely been my roughest pregnancy I feel great now but the first trimeseter was awful:p

Candra:)

Hi everyone--I came down to post in peace, but now I have a clingy child sitting on my lap and my oldest ds is up and trying to tell my about the Rush concert he and dh went to last night, so I'll have to try again later. :p

Melanie--glad you're back!
Welcome, Candra and Mikkia!

Maggie:)
29 weeks, 11 to go

Hi Maggie! Hello Candra, welcome aboard. I also have 3 boys. :)

Morris, Sorry for all of the emotions. Thankfully I'm not going thru that at the moment but we sure were a few weeks ago. I say we becasue I know I test DH's patience. CS is Classical Stretch and I am postively addicted to it. I feel taller, more flexible, rested, etc every time I do it. Bar is Bar Method Body - high rep/low to no wieght work. I haven't done it in a while. I think it's time to pull it out again. Supposed to give you long/lean muscles.

Mikkia, I think if you bulk up on your B vitamins (there's one in particular but I can't remember which) it helps w/ the nausea. I wish we were going to go to Disney! We were hoping this summer but I am just too pg to enjoy it when we wanted to go. Next summer maybe.

Melanie - Good luck getting your run in tonight.

Candra, You'll have all boys and I'll have all girls! Too cool to have the same due date! My SIL is due 5 days after me.

Maggie, Hope you can find some peace and quiet today - or maybe just one of them!

Vitamin B6 50mg two or three times a day + doxylamine (for sleeping) is the cocktail used for morning sickeness. ;)

Wow busy busy already today!

Kate~ you know I have always continued to do abs work as normal.. I haven't noticed the seperation getting worse. I didn't even notice it till I was pp with Landon. It never did and still doesn't hurt, but there is a definate gap. When I do ab work I can really feel it. Is doing ab work supposed to make it worse? or doe sit just hurt for you to do the ab work? That waterslide sounds like a blast! I'd be going down it myself! lol I think we can tell a tinsey little bit you are excited. : ) I am beyond excited too. I didn't know I'd be so exctied till we actaully found out she was a girl and I am just giddy inside thinking about it.

Kristan~wow that is crazy! I know the tech told us if they don't see a penis, but also don't see a girl part they can guess it's a girl, but if they actually see the labia they can say for certain.. now I am wondering.. I do get another u/s at 22 weeks so I will def. make sure they see girl parts again. It's funny that my 3rd pregnancy was the worst for me. I was SO tired.. ached, had more issues than the first 2. I think that had more to do with me getting preg. so fast after #2.. my first 2 were 2 1/2 years apart, but I got preg. w/ my 3rd when my dd was only 11 months old and I had bf'd her till that point so I just think my body was wiped out from all that.. then adding the pregnancy on top of it. I felt awful. I was worried that they would just keep getting worse, but this pregnacny has been a dream so far. I do have the varicose veins acting up already this time, but not many other complaints. It seems our kiddos are all about the same age apart. My oldest will be almost 7 when the baby comes, my dd will be 4 and my little one will be 2.

Melanie~I think it's totally normal to feel overwhelmed like that. I am sure in a few more weeks you'll be used to the idea. How long has your house been on the market? How many hours are you working? ((hugs)) I had some days like that in the beginning where I just couldn't even get up to run. Have you tried walking on days like that? Sometimes I find once I get out there and walk a bit I feel like running. Then sometimes I just don't get out of bed. LOL

Morris~ just offering hugs to you on the no running. I will be feeling the same way when my time comes.. I know I will. What is 10/10/10?

Mikkia~I know many ladies have tried the bands you were on your wrist to help w/ m/s. I also have heard citrus type drinks like orange soda or juice or lemonade can help. Eating small bits and eating before getting out of bed can help. I hope you don't have to deal too much w/ that while on your trip.

Candra~welcome! Wow 3 boys! That'll be fun!

Hi Maggie!

Thank you, Melanie - b6!

Trish - Yes, ab work while pg is supposed to make it worse. (from what I've read anyway!) Glad this pg is easier for you - maybe 4th times the charm! Maybe I'll know someday!

I had a 2-hour nap with my girls. Great BUT I slept thru the time I needed to get stuff done. Now I have no clue what's for dinner - need to regroup.
