Melanie - Yes, details of this partial detox. I'm thinking that I really need some change to help me going with these last 3-5 lbs!

Morris - Any news on if DH's homecoming will be right timing with your follicles?

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I'm feeling better today. Things with ds' school incident got resolved for the most part and still waiting for AF to come. Temp dipped down again today so it's just a waiting game at this point.

Lisa

Hi all,
Thanks for your advice on the Clomid. I did talk to the RE and he's willing to put me on it, but I'm hesitant b/c of the side effects and the fact that it may give me multiple 'bad' eggs. I'm not afraid of multiples, but what if one egg were bad and were to m/c and I actually had one good egg. Sound silly, but I'm just not sure Clomid would help my situation, since it's genetic.

We're going to have DH do one more SA and then we'll visit whether we get him in for surgery for the variocele. He's gotten me pregnant twice with it so far, it's just getting to be a timing thing. It would give us a better chance of getting pregnant quicker, since our time line is only 3 years left of trying. So, we'll just have to see. I should be O today or tomorrow, but we only got 1 BD in. I had to go see my twin sister on Friday. She's having some marital problems and in a bit of a crisis, so I couldn't sit here and do nothing. So, I drove off to WI and we had a good heart to heart talk.

Anyway enough about me!

Welcome Kristin!

Hi Lisa - sorry AF found you. It will happen soon. Good job on the eating! Fruit is o.k., it's way better than chocolate! :9

Melanie - Hope you sell your house real soon. Good idea about winterizing for now.

Hey Morris - Anything new with you? Are you taking Clomid and are they monitoring your follies? Thanks for the thought about Clomid. Were you on it? I've seen so many bad side effects and am just real hesitant, but it might be worth a try.

Well, gotta scoot and watch the Packer's kick the Vikings today!

Anne

anne, your sister is lucky to have you! hope things get better for her soon. i have never been on clomid, so i cannot tell you about side effects. my friend was on it for a while and she did not have any issues. i am using the injections. with clomid you have a 10% better chance of getting pregant. my dr didn't think it would work so well for me. i can definately understand your conerns though. sometimes it is worth it to just try everything you possibly can, and other times it is too scary. not an easy decision for sure. i hope you catch the good egg this month.

lisa, glad you are doing okay. what happened at school to your son?

melanie, give us our challenge for monday! i did really well with food today. actually, i got this new peanut butter at the grocery store. had a few spoonfuls of it when i wanted chocolate or a big bowl of cereal (my major weakness). it did the trick today.

hey autumn, jen , and kristan!

today i did a really long treadmill run and gym style bsb. i took ds on a picnic to the park with our dog, then to the pumpkin patch. he had such fun, and i got some cute pictures. dh is getting closer - he is in alaska now. he promised me he'd be home for when i need him;-)

the shots are going well. no major side effects. i am sure i am a bit more hormonal, but i feel fine. they are a little uncomfortable, but i can deal. these next few days will be the worst probably as i start to up my dose tonight.

hope everyone has a great start to the week!

Hi ladies. I worked out 3 times this week. One more week of 4 days, then I begin my alternating 3/4 schedule (supplementing with hrs closer to home). ;) Yeah! I just enjoyed my 3 days off, I always get a little sad on Sunday morning, knowing that it's my last full day off with my boys before my stretch of work days. If I'm not careful, it robs by joy of enjoying them for the day. Ah. Life!

Here's my plan for my sugar detox. Goal 14 days. No bread, pasta, white rice. No fruit, no sugar. No fatty meats. Veggies, nuts, milk, low-fat dairy (excluding sugary stuff like flavored yogurt and ice cream ;) )are fair game. Diet should be mostly from veggies, lean meats/eggs, and legumes. Skim milk with each meal. Lots of water, goal 64 ounces+/day.

As a preparation for my lunches for the week, I made enough tuna salad (real mayo, tuna, diced celery, pepper, sour cream) for the entire week. I also made a large salad with tomatoes, cheese, carrots, celery, zuccini, and olives for the entire week for lunch. Snacks will be mixed nuts (no peanuts) as needed (no limits on nuts).

Breakfast will be eggs, cheese, Uncle Bens whole grain instant rice. I'll make my own "breakfast bowls".

Dinners will be 3/4 plate steamed veggies and a deck of cards sized lean meat...most likely a No Name Chicken Breast seasoned with Cajun seasoning (or similiar). Perhaps a side of black beans (or similiar).

This should get me through the first 4-5 days of diet. I won't be able to workout the first 4 days because of my work schedule.

If you do decide to participate, and you feel like you don't have enough energy...it would totally be appropriate to have a smoothie (made with 1/2 non-fat unflavored yogurt, 1/2 cup frozen fruit, protein powder of your choice, 1/4 cup milk, ice cubes).

Wish me luck!...Do you think it'd be more appropriate for me to list this on Check-in Forum? I don't want to bore anyone with check-ins if ya'll aren't interested. Let me know, you won't offend me.

Have a great week ladies!

melanie, thanks for all the specifics. i will join you, although i will have to modify somewhat if you don't mind.... and i don't mind where you post. whatever works. great job with the workouts, by the way. what are you ding these days when you work out?

your menu sounds great. perhaps it would help me if i had a bit less variety. i think my energy would fall if i cut out too many carbs (and fruit:p ). i am doing lots of exercise lately, and i need more energy. so far today i had a mini low carb wrap with 1 tsp peanut butter, a small bannana, and a handful of soynuts and low fat string cheese for a snack. i will try to decrease but not eliminate complex carbs, eliminate all simple carbs and sugars (for today:+ ), and decrease portions. i have soup and carrot sticks for lunch as well as some dry high fiber cereal. fruit and yougart for a snack. dinner tonight, i am not sure yet.... maybe i will try for a tuna salad.

so melanie, my big question is, where are mountain dews in your diet??

NO MOUNTAIN DEWs! Ha!

So far so good, except for a slight headache (caffeine withdrawal I'm sure). I also had trouble staying awake during my drive to work...I had to stop and get some bubblegum!!

Hi ladies! I will join the sugar detox. I started today and it looks like my plan is similar to your plan Melanie. So, I am good to go... just let me know where to check-in.

Lisa, sorry about AF.

Anne, shhhh don't tell me fruit is better for me than chocolate?

Morris, I think less variety does help with diet. I read that in some book... I have a little, tiny diet book addiction. Some women read romance novel... I read diet books. :D

Hi Jen & Kristan!

About clomid...

We don't know exactly how it works but it appears to fool the body into believing estrogen is low... which results in more GnRH (gonadotropin releasing hormone) resulting in more FSH and LH which results in more follicles.

I have taken 7 or 8 cycles of Clomid (50, 100, and 150 mg), and I did have side effects... think of PMS on steroids. }( }( }( I also had pelvic pain, thickened cervical mucus, and endometrial thinning. According to the staff at the clinic, my body "hated" clomid. However, it works great for many women. I did well with the Follistim/Clomid combo.

I have a new duty... I get to give my DH his allergy shots. He said I did a good job... but he better say that. :)

I've rambled enough. TTYL!

So far, so good. I'm much quieter than normal today (maybe it's the headache)? Gee, guys, I thought my diet was bland. What are your plans?

I'm so in on this check-in with the eating. I am going to have high fiber cereal that I bought yesterday for breakfast, but need to use 1% milk since I buy organic and that's all I have. The no fruits will be hard so I might have fruit when I'm craving the really bad stuff.

Anne - GL with catching that egg! Are you guys still considering the IUI?

Morris - My ds incident is posted below.

Melanie - It doesn't matter to me where you decide to post, but I know I could really use the accountability.

Autumn - What is DH allergic to?

Anyway, with my ds' incident...he and a boy in his class got into an arguement which the boy started. This boy has been in the principal's office once before already. Anyway, he grabbed my ds' shirt so my ds grabbed his shirt back. My ds is really strong for his age so I think the boy was a little taken aback when my ds let go. The boy told my ds that he was going to "kill his sister" and went on about how he was going to sit next to her on the bus and he has a knife. They all catch the same school bus home. My ds came home and told me about it and I called the teacher the next morning immediately. She investigated and the boy admitted to saying it. He's from Brazil and English is his second language, but I don't care. You never threaten anyone whether you're going through with it or not. The teacher called the mom and she came down to the school to talk with the teacher because I guess she had some concerns and issues to share about this boy. Whatever...just punish the little bastard (sorry, my Mama Bear is coming out..) She did tell the teacher he's getting punished at home. The principal will figure out a punishment for this boy when school resumes (they are on break right now - year round school) and will let me know what action they decided on. It took everything in me not to go over to their house. They live in our neighborhood in a really nice, new house, but I don't know what kind of background this kid has. They seem like a normal family, but who knows! My DH is the much more calm one than me. So that was my novel, but it really bothered me. Any prayers will be appreciated esp. to calm my nerves! I really don't think this kid would do anything, but it just upset me regardless.

So I worked out 3 times last week. It was a really sluggish week for me. AF is here and I'm even more blah. When are those new Cathe dvds coming?

Lisa

Morris - I need your advice and thought! I found out today after a routine check-up for my dog that she might have heartworm. I find out on Wed. for sure after her test results come back from the lab. Her in-clinic test came back positive. I am guilty of not giving her heartworm preventitive medication in awhile or on a regular basis. I'm so bad about remembering. Our other dog didn't have it which the vet thought was maybe hopeful that she could have had a false positive. I'm just sooo worried and I cried this afternoon feeling so guilty and worried about the treatment she might need to get. The staff was really good and said that recovery is good with the treatment and most dogs do well and my dog is young and healthy otherwise so she should be fine. What is your experience with this? I'm so scared and worried for her. I know keeping her heartrate down during and after treatment is key which we're telling our kids that they need to chill and not play with her during that time. Do you think her chances are good? My DH is very reassuring and said that she'll be fine, but I just want to know she's not going to die or be in a lot of pain.

Lisa

hi lisa - so sorry to hear your dog may have heartworm disease. the really good thing, though, is that it was caught at your visit to the vet. probably your dog has annual blood tests and was probably negative last year. if this is a true positive, you can start treatment, and the success rate is very very very good! this is especially true for a young and otherwise healthy dog. please keep me posted, but try not to worry too much. as i said, it is a very treatable condition. hth.

melanie, how did your day go i must admit, i was quite impressed by your plan. i faired pretty well yesterday. i ate more fat than i normally do (healthy fats) - peanut butter and soy nuts for snacks. i did avoid all processed foods. felling pretty good today. are we going for day 2?

how is everyone else doing?

anne, any more thoughts on clomid?

hi autumn, hi kristen, hi jen

Lisa,
That boy should at very least be suspended from school. Violence and threat of violece cannot be tolerated. Especially in today's world, where children are stabbing other children. I may be more pro-active in this area...but I lived in ROCORI district where we DID have a shooting at the school. In that community, I guarantee you...that child would have been suspended...if not expelled! Zero tolerance, we need to protect our kids.

Okay, now that I've calmed down a little...

Yes, day 2 is on. I did fairly well. I found myself more tired than I anticipated. I did eat an apple, and a slice of dark rye bread with my tuna. I also was "daydreaming" on my way home & had a scarey episode of having to "snap myself out of it". I was sticking wads of gum in my mouth trying to keep myself awake during my 90minute drive home. I went to bed at 9 last night, so hopefully I'll be better today.

Oh! And I almost forgot! I was doing sooooooo good, DHs Bday was Sunday and I made triple choclate muffins. There was only one left Sunday night, so I put it on the counter Monday morning for the family to fight over. Would you believe it? It was there last night? I DID walk by it 2 times before devouring it. Oops! It was a very small muffin. :X

Day TWO here we come!

melanie, you make me laugh! glad you are as human as the rest of us (or me at least) ;-) ;-) i totally would have eaten the muffin too. day 2 is going strong here - i had a sipinch and egg white omlette and a bannana for breakfast. and a spoonful of soynut butter mmmmmmm!

lisa, in thinking of your dog i completely skipped responding about your son. how awful and scary. i felt the mama bear in me coming out just reading your post. i agree wholeheartedly with melanie. i hope today is better for the whole family.

i am off to do gym stylke legs while ds naps. i should nap too as we were up most of the night with teeth. but, i will feel better if i exercise first.

Morris - Thank you for making me feel better. I'm just so full of guilt. Kind of like when my kids go to the dentist and they have a cavity in between their teeth and I'm thinking, I don't force them to floss everyday and now look! Okay, enough with the pity party, but any prayers that it's a false positive would be great.

Melanie - Yes, I find out next week Tuesday what his punishment will be and I will be speaking to the prinicipal once I find out. I believe in zero tolerance as well. Did you think about drinking unsweetened tea to help you stay up?

Okay, so yesterday went really well as far as eating. I had high fiber cereal. It did have evaporated cane juice so not completely without sugar, but at least better than processed sugar. I had lean fish & veggies for lunch. For snacks I ate boiled egg whites. For dinner I had veggies & beef. Not really lean, lean beef, but I didn't eat too much of the beef. I did have a caffeine free diet coke for dessert. I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners, but it was better than going for the snickers I thought. No workout yesterday, but after posting this I'm going to do one. Not sure which one, but I'm thinking PUB and pilates. Then later this afternoon I'll go for a jog.

It's been a rough week and thanks for listening to me vent. I appreciate all of you! Okay, I'm going to follow in Melanie's footsteps and be positive! Any thoughts & prayers for my dog and ds' situation is welcomed! Thank you so much!!!

Lisa

i think wine is a must with the detox!!!! just kidding. sort of.

hope everyone's day went well. i am so tired and am looking forward to bed. the rest of my day ended up well save for 1/4 cup non fat no sugar frozen yougart. i totally caved. but, no chocolate and other stuff. i feel pretty good truthfully, other than being lonely, hormonal, and tired:) :)

lisa, i hope you and your family had a good day. i hope af is gone soon.

melanie, did you work today? still really tired? that must be scary with such a long drive. i used to drive all day every day for my job. i hated that part of things.

hope evryone is well

Extremely hungry today. I caved in and had a MD on my way home. Just one in 2 days, I was really scared after dozing off yesterday. I tried to be strong, just wasn't strong enough. I feel like I"m not as determined as I was last time I did this (I don't have any serious weight to lose). I need to write down what my goals are, and to recite them when I feel weak.

If I could have a protein shake at work, I know that would help. How do you think it would taste without ice cubes? I could bring my Magic Bullet and whip something up, but without ice? I'll have to brain storm.

HATE tea, that's not an option...but thanks for the thought, Lisa. Any other ideas for filling me up? I KNOR if I can get through five days of detox it'll get better.

DAy THREE here I come!

I ended up doing PUB and my pilates. I didn't get to walk/jog like I hoped. The eating went well again. I did have a moment of weakness where I almost caved in to eating a chocolate pudding, but I didn't. I ate my high fiber cereal, a whole wheat toast w/ avocado, swiss cheese, and cucumber slices for lunch and snacked on natural popcorn and brown rice cakes w/ natural pb. I did use the pb with a little added sugar. It has less calories than my all natural no sugar added pb so I figure it was a compromise. Had pizza with whole wheat/oat flour crust and spinach, garlic, and cheese for dinner. I drank 1/2 a glass of red wine which was my indulgence. Oh and I did have another diet coke. Day 2 down as long as I stop eating for the night. Now that I bored you with my menu for the day...

Morris - Hope DH comes home soon to fertilize your eggs!

Melanie - How's about iced coffee? Do you not drink diet soda?

Lisa

lisa and melanie, way to go!! everyone else, i hope you don't mind all the posting!!!

melanie, i like your idea of writing down goals and then remembering them when feelinga moment of weakness. i like how i feel so much better when i eat well. today, wednesday, will hopefully be another good day, but my hardest day will be thursday at work. i get stressed at work, and that tends to foil my best attempts. but, something to work toward.

dh will hopefully be home thursday, and i go for another check thurs am, so things are looking up.

Hey ladies!

Lisa, I am very protective of my kids too... it is a good thing. Dh is allergic to... well Missouri :), cats, mold, etc. It is a long list. He had polyps removed summer '06... his sinus cavities looked like honeycomb related to the numerous polyps... the worse case the doc had seen... so the shots are for prevention.

Morris, don't tell me wine is out! First it's my chocolate and now wine. :p

Melanie, these triple chocolate muffins... tell me more... like the recipe. :9 }( :)

Well, AF arrived today but I knew she would since we didn't try this cycle. I really want to get my weight down before another pregnancy but I am no spring chicken anymore... of course, I leave this in His hands. I think I am going to use the info I've learnd from the Marquette Model (the NFP teacher training course) and give it a try this cycle though.

I've worked out 4 days this week... my goal is 5.
