Trying to Fit Yoga in for Wed April 18

Morning Yogini's -

This morning I did Barry's Arms & Abs with non-TM cardio (part on Rebounder) and then I did some Gliding. Listened to my own music ....Californication (forgot how much I love that CD). Workout was 1 hour and 20 minutes and I burned 450.

I also did Ravi & Ana's Yoga Bliss Hips 60". (first time I've actually done the entire thing and not a premix. Sure would like to know what a few moves do for you. They were weird and sometimes he doesn't say what they are for. I hate when he doesn't say.....cuz then I wonder and guess! I feel like emailing them with my list some day and maybe they can put it in their newsletter!

I'm happy, as I noticed my legs are continuing to look better. Thinner above the kneecap and looking more defined. I wish I'd have measured sooner. I also noticed my abs looking a bit better today. Maybe I was just having a "good mirror" day!! LOL. At any rate, I'm sticking with this sort of leg training versus what I was doing.

Jen - HSC is my fave Cathe workout. I love that one....well that one and Imax 3 are my 2 fave's. We're exact opposites though cuz I think the other high step one is hard, but only cuz the step ups seem NEVER ending! I've been feeling like you lately. Today is the first day I was actually able to put a bit more into it and get my HR at a decent rate. Don't know what's up with me......but I did fall asleep earlier last night versus tosses and turning for a couple of hours. Took my Calms Forte ....along with V Root/Melatonin!! GEEZ!

RE: Vegas - yes, we have been going there for about 10 years or so....at least twice a year! It's the only vacation we found we like so far. We hate beach vacations. Not enough to do and I'm really sensitve to the sun....plus I don't lay out in the sun. I love to swim.....but you can do that in Vegas (although we never take the time to do that unless we're broke and have not alternative! LOL). We play slots, video poker (my favorite), video blackjack and sometimes my DH will play table Black Jack....but you can't win a big jackpot at once...so it's not as exciting to him. We have had good luck winning $2000 on Video Poker a few times. The odds are better on it than the slots. We aren't usually that lucky when we're there (have had the occasional lucky trip - and those are the best :)!!)

I'm taking my Eion Finn yoga audio CDs with me cuz my DH goes to bed quite a bit earlier than me and since I don't watch TV, I get really bored. I can't sleep as much as he can! I will probably have a couple hours everynight (at least)....to do yoga and lie on my balls for my pain. Plus, I get really REALLY stiff on vacation when all I do is walk. I used to stretch in the room when I had time.....but we're the type who don't relax on vacation.....we GO GO GO!! That's the way we like it!

Yve - hope you are well!

Have a great day everyone.

Hi Ladies,

Tonight's workout will be Power Yoga for Happiness... and I am going to crank up the portable heater. I need a really good stretch tonight.

Lora - I responded to your questions about the differences re Canadian and US work week/medical system etc in yesterday's post. I have to say - SO and like the casino games also. I love to play video Let it Ride and video Blackjack... also Blackjack at the tables. I haven't ever been to Vegas - but would really like to. Like you - I am not a sun worshipper. I burn very easy - and even have a spot of sun damage - from having missed a spot with the sun screen.

Hi Jen and Meg - hope you had a great day.

Hi ladies! Tonight's WO was supposed to be CTX upper body split and 2 ab segments from Ab Hits. I don't have either of those so I substituted Rachel McLish Shape Your Body Upper Body segment only and Hip Hop Abs-Ab Sculpt 2.

Lora-Wow! That is really awesome about the results you are seeing from your workouts. Do you think it's from the variety you have done lately or can you attribute it mostly to a certain series/DVD like Barry's or Fluidity? I am not much for the beach as far as vacations go, as my skin can't seem to take the sun either, but I do love the atmosphere of the beach and something about being that close to the water. I really tend to gravitate toward DVDs that are filmed on the shore of the water-there's just something so relaxing about it. I have heard that the slots in Vegas are really the thing to do and a fun way to spend the time-that' so neat that you get to go a couple of times a year. Talk about a change of scenery!!!! :) I bet if you ask Ravi and Ana about those exercises, they will gladly tell you the health benefits. I have so enjoyed their newsletters-again thanks to you for telling us about them.

Yve-Yep, I am 36 (and DH is 51), so I know what you mean about the age thing. My DH had vasectomy reversal last August and the doctor said if it worked, it would probably be at least a year to a year and a half for me to get pregnant, if it happens at all. My DH and I decided that this is all we will do-no IVF or anything like that. Don't think I could take messing with my hormones....and he probably couldn't take it either. }( We are trying to stay relaxed about it, but it's tough sometimes. Every once and awhile I read something (even on the Cathe forums) where someone says there is no way they would have a child after 35-especially due to potential birth defects-which really makes me question what we are trying to do.....but, I try to remain as optimistic as possible, just like I did with marriage. Always imagining the worst that can happen doesn't do any good, life is about taking risks and I think DH and I are up for the challenge. We are different in age and race and we have come so far together and it has been so worth it. Won't it be interesting if you and I are pregnant around the same time? So, not to pressure you (wedding & house are enough, I think!) but when do you think you & soon to be DH will start trying?

Jen

Hi Jen,

It's tax season.....SO is busy busy.... too busy to get busy!!!! ;)
Seriously - As soon as we get married - we will start trying.

I am 38 and SO is 48... so we have yet another thing in common.
I hope you don't mind my asking - Why does the doctor feel that it would take you 1.5 years due to the reversal?

SO and I met 7 years ago. When things began to get serious - and we were considering long term plans - I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at age 33. So after surgery and 2 isolation doses of radio-iodine - 2.5 years had elapsed. Even after that - my blood protein levels hadn't dropped to an acceptable level to say that it was behind me. In fact - my blood results still aren't perfect - but they are stable. When one goes thru the radio-iodine, one has to refrain from becoming pregnant for a year due to the remnant radiation in the body. Due to the fact that the blood proteins weren't normal - I have had many scans thereafter - which again are contraindicated for pregnancy. So - time has certainly lapsed. When my endo felt that my blood levels - though not perfect - may just be the norm for me - I felt that finally I could move on with life..... and here we are today... rushing to make things official - and TTC.

It would be AMAZING if we were pregnant together.... we could compare notes on prenatal yoga dvds!!

I understand what you are saying about pregnancy in advanced age . I have 3 close friends who had children at age 38, 39 and 40. They all have happy and health children. It is wonderful that you are consciously staying optimistic and have a good attitude about this.
I do my best - but have a hard time staying positive....When I hit 37, I went through a major funk - and was just heartbroken about it all. Yoga has really helped to keep me grounded and focussed on all the good that life has to offer.

I have read a few books on the topic - and am trying to keep my diet very clean and fertility friendly... apparantly asparagus is the fertility food....Also - one of the books I read was touting accupuncture also. I have bought prenatal vitamins... but am ashamed to say that I am terrible at taking them. I understand you would be leary of fertility pills and IVF. I haven't thought that far ahead to say for certain, but my instinct tells me that I would probably go ahead with assisted fertility if it came to that.

Have you and SO been trying for a while? Any tips or interesting medical facts that you learned along the way?

Keeping my fingers crossed for you :)
Have a good night.
Yve
