Trying to Fit Yoga In for Sunday Feb 25

Morning Yoga Ladies -

This morning I did Cardio Coach #3 on the Treadmill. I did jump on the Ellipitcal a few times to take some of the impact off of my foot. I repeated one of the challenges and then I did Hip Hop Abs Level 2 Fat Burning Cardio (for about 35 minutes). This was relatively difficult after CC! My HR actually climbed to 150 or so during some of the harder segments. I ended up doing a total of 1 hour 20 minutes of cardio and my HRM read a calorie burn of 550....although not sure if it's accurate today...as my battery is getting weak and it lost the settings yesterday and my resting HR was not set correctly. It was set at 70....which is higher than mine. I then did Yoga for Athletes with Kim Fowler......felt real good!

Jen - YBB Live's are a bit dancy also.....more so than the one you did last night. They are all themed.....one is Hip Hop, one Burlesque, Go Go, etc. See if you can find a single copy on Ebay to purchase before you'd actually make the decision to buy them from BB. Although, you probably could return them if you didn't like them. I'm able to make both Hip Hop Abs & YBB as intense as I want to....well I can at least get my HR up to 150 doing them....which is moderately high for me. It all depends how much you put into them and I always add some jumps to the moves to make it more intense. So I found it interesting that you found the ballet segment to be tough. I never thought any of the ballet segments were tough enough. I've actually even worn leg weights for them some times. I do have some prior Ballet history though........from LONG ago. I took ballet for several years when I was young. My teacher was very very TOUGH! It is not easy when you do an entire class. My Mom sure knew how to get rid of us three girls on Saturdays.......she dropped us off at the dance studio every Saturday and we took Ballet, Tap, Modern Dance (acrobats also...but not for long....we weren't very good at that)....plus we did about a half hour to an hour of a warmup/exercise class and breaked for lunch.....so we were gone most of the day. I was best at Modern Dance/Jazz and Tap......Ballet ......I was so/so. I was a chubby kid.....so. My sister, however, remained doing Ballet into her teens and actually went to NYC and passed all of her ballet exams......can't spell the name of the exams....I'm clueless with my French these days....but then she ended up getting married and never pursued her dance career. I should mention that my sister was the most petite out of us girls. She only stands 5'1" and was small. I am 5'7" and was a little chubby until I reached my teens. Anyway....not that you asked for all of that information or anything........geez.

Hi Janie, Yve and Tammy .........if you ladies are around today.

I'll be back later.

Lora-That is some great dance experience. No wonder you are so good at the complex choreography! I think the YBBs will be a struggle for me, but I am working hard on remaining open and telling myself that I can do things-things I used to tell myself I couldn't do or give up after the first try. When I can't do something the first time perfectly, I usually quit or make up my mind it's something I am not good at. Can you imagine how many things I have quit over my life? Alot! So, being in my late 30s, I have decided now is the time. This hasn't always worked against me though...I wasn't very good at smoking (only tried once) so I quit that, too-LOL!!!! :) :) Especially now, working out has to be fun though-if it's not I won't continually be motived. I can't believe you are able to add weights during that ballet section! Holy Cow! That takes amazing stregth. My legs were soooo fatigued. Definately works it differently-but I am not sore today, which seems strange considering how difficult that part was-it must have mostly just been the fatiguing feeling that did it.

I'll BBL after today's WO. Gotta make my usual store run today but it's rainy and yucky here!

Jen - Believe me......the dance lessons were years ago. I'm really not so good at complex coreography. I just am pig-headed. If I try something and I can't get it.....but it looks fun......I will practice, practice, concentrate......over and over and I'm determined to get it. I never used to be like this with coreography (but always was with other things in my life) until I bought Seasun's Straight Up Step and couldn't do it for a crap....but I kept practicing every Saturday and each week, I picked up a bit more and more and when I finally learned it, it was my most fun cardio step tape ever. That's what got me started with this partial-love for complex coreography. My brain used to be able to remember the steps a LOT better when I was younger. Keep it up with the ballet segments and it should start getting easier. It's probably just something your body is not used to. I like your attitude about keeping an open mind and trying them. Remember - don't give up if you can't pick up the steps in YBB at first. I don't know how many times I did them before I started liking them (cuz I actually started learning them). Now they are my fun- feel good, pick me up workouts. Don't be afraid of looking silly. Just have fun and let the Child Within come out and play!! It's always fun to be a kid at heart. By the way, lucky you with a beautician like that. I've not had one I liked for a LONG time now. I can't seem to find one like my old one who quit to have a family.

DID A WO!!! DID A WO!!!!!

I managed Amy Bento's Hi/Lo Xtreme, and then BM2 abs. I have not done a WO at all in atleast a week. It felt so good to do one today. My eating has been good today. I have not been eating enough all week, but doing alright today.

Sorry I have been gone. Lot of issues here. I miss you guys. I will hope to continue this trend of daily WOs again. Hopefully I can do some yoga tonight. I have like 3 new ones to do!

Hi ladies,

Today I went to a one hour pilates class. My hips were burning - as he made us bridge while standing on tennis balls. We then had to bridge while balancing on one foot that was on a tennis ball - and the other knee over our chest... he also made us roll the ball this way. I know tomorrow I will be feeling it for sure.

I did not work out yesterday. I missed ashtanga in the morning. I was running errands the whole day - and in the evening - we took our best friends out for dinner - and invited them to be our best man/matron of honour. It was quite nice - SO got teary eyed asking them.

Lora - The Coca-Cola job sounds interesting. With respect to excel - I really wouldn't worry about the formulas or the math part. I use excel in a pseudo admin capacity - and don't use any intense fmlas. It is basic data entry - as you say - or if I do plug in a fmla -it is basic adding, subtracting - or percentages. Employers tend to ask for more qualifications - rather than less...If you have been around other software programs - even just inhouse programs - I don't think you will have a problem using excel - or picking up what is required for your job description... besides - there is always - the Microsoft 'assistant' - the paper clip that answers questions on all the MS programs. Unless you are a financial analyst - or working in a very analytical/accounting sort of role - the advanced excel fmlas usually aren't required. I am not tech-y either... and have been able to tapdance my way around this stuff.... if I can do it... believe me - anyone can!

The info on Fat Free Yoga/Kundalini is interesting. I am not sure if I have ever mentioned on the yoga thread - I have had surgery to remove my thyroid in 2001 - as I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I am always interested in exercises pertaining to thyroid and metabolism. I have the Journey Thru the Chakras - but have only gone thru it once. One thing I do have a hard time with - due to the stretching on the front part of my neck - is the camel pose. - I just can't get my head back without a choking sensation. Plow and shoulder stand feels amazing - and I understand that this pose is for metabolism also... though - I have been told these aren't supposed to be done during menstruation.
WRT my body type - it is hard to say - I am a mix of a few. I am tall - 5'8 - long arms and legs... but I gain fat around my waist, love handles and belly. I have slim legs and arms, and pancake butt...sort of a rectangle shape overall. I do not put on muscle very easily. When I am thin - I just look thin allover - not shapely. If I am overweight - it is in my tummy and waist and those love handles... What would this body-type be?

Jen -thanks for the ybb review - it sounds great. Would you say the difficulty in the choreography is as difficult as a Cathe step dvd? I know what you mean about wanting to quit if you don't get something right away....I am not a huge lover of kickboxing... it hurts my ankles - I fear that i will pull something or pop something.... and bc I can't give it my all... I don't want to do it...BTW!....I'd like to see your pics too!!! :)

Hi Meg! - Nice to see you... hope things are ok - and glad you were able to pop in.

Hello to Kel - and all who follow.

Another question ladies.... what kind of runners are you wearing??? I have the Ryka Enlight IIs... but I think these are the cause of my sore ankles and knees... either I have to get a bigger size - or a new shoe...I wasn't sore like this with my old Rykas.

Have a nice evening - will try to check in later.

Yve

Yve - the best athletic shoes I've ever owned are my Saucony Grid Tangent's. They are Stability Running Shoes under the Racing category. I buy them on www.zappos.com. I just bought a new pair. My older ones are raspberry and white and are original Grid Tangent's and the pair I just got are blue/silver and white and are Grid Tangent 2's. They are slightly improved over the initial ones and I love them even more. They have the most cushion in the forefoot and a bootie like fit with a soft mesh/leather upper. I highly recommend these as well as the Black/Plum Saucony crosstrainers. I had a pair of Ryka's once and sent them back as they didn't fit my foot right and I didn't like them.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the job.....I tend to lack confidence these days since it seems I've been thru so many jobs and my memory has been so bad lately that it's scary. I don't know if it perimenopause, hormones, stress or a combination of old age and the fact that I burned a lot of brain cells out in my younger days when I had problems in my "wild child" days.

RE: your body type. You sound like an Ectomorph (tall and thin -- hard to gain muscle) with an slight apple tendency....thust the slight problem with gaining in your waist and abdomen and having a flatter bottom. I tend to be an ectormorph with pear tendencies. People look at me and think I'm thin......but I'm not really. I could afford to lose 7 pounds easily. I really have a hard time gaining muscle too cuz I'm a vegetarian and I'm a very picky eater. I don't get good quality protein in my diet. I eat cheese/yogurt etc.....but I can't stomach chicken or fish. It grosses me out. I haven't had meat for about 20 years or so (probably longer). Have you ever tried P90X for your upper body? It helped me a little, but it has a lot of pushups and I tend to get upper back spasms from push ups but I love the way they make my shoulders/arms look. I've been trying to work thru the pain hoping that eventually my upper back will develop more strength and not spasm up so much.......although I don't know if I'm dreaming.

Hi Lora,

Thanks for the Saucony review. I tend to need the forefoot cushioning - as well as support in the ankle. I have bunions that give me a lot of discomfort - and cause pain in the front part of the foot. The Saucony's sound like they would be a good fit for my type of foot.

WRT the job confidence - I think what you are feeling is completely normal and very common. Losing a job is a very stressful event - and you wouldn't be human if it didn't affect you. But remember - no matter how you feel on the inside - it doesnt mean that you couldn't do a new job - or learn a variation of your existing skills... who knows - it may even contribute to greater job satisfaction for you. Go into the interviews believing that you have something to contribute to the firm - as opposed to believing that they have something to offer you. You have alot of experience and professionalism. Regardless of what your emotions are doing to your confidence - these are facts and you would be an asset to whomever you work for.

I haven't ever tried P90x. I actually have a copy of it. I viewed it a few yrs ago - but never went thru with it. Perhaps I should try this one again.

I didn't realize that you are a vegetarian. Do you like soy products - or grains like quinoa?

Hi ladies! Tonight's WO was Yoga Booty Ballet Advanced followed by Steve Ross Inhale yoga. I stopped after the cardio and ballet portions of YBB (45 mins) and then DH joined me for the Inhale yoga session (45 mins). Oh my Goodness! This Advanced YBB WO moved a lot faster than the Beginner version, but it was great fun. For some reason, the moves were easier to pick up than most dance WOs I have attempted. Those ballet sections continue to burn me!

Yve-I think Meg, Lora and maybe a couple of the Hardcore Fitness Maniacs may try to do P90X this summer or fall if you want to join us. That is such a great story about your SO and best man/maid of honor situation. I hope you are journaling this time in your life. A friend of mine just got married last October. She is wishing she had written her experiences down! YBB is not nearly as complex as Cathe-at least the two WOs I have done- and it's lower impact, too. I still favor Cathe over everything because I feel more accomplished with her workouts than any other-but I love the change of pace and these other workouts have really given me no excuses with all the variety in my fitness library now! :)
