Trying High Step Challenge tomorrow--a question

I would've posted this in JT's thread but I didn't want it to get lost. ;-)

So my question is, when it comes to the barbell exercises, what's the max weight used? I have to use my body bars & they're kind of tough to double up--I've tried it once so far & it was difficult getting both bars on my shoulders for squats--my hands are too small to hold both at the same time so I had to put one on my shoulders & do a balancing act while I picked up the other to pair them.

Also any other advice about HSC would be appreciated. I'm a-scared. :p

Laura,
For lower body Cathe uses 40 on the BB and for upper body 35 or 40. I know she uses 35 for bicep work and I think she uses 40 for underhand back rows. Maybe you should use your Dynaband to tie your bodybars together?:) However, you can always lighten the weights and increase the reps and I'm sure you'll still feel it.

Don't be scared of HSC, just be sure to preview it b/c she moves pretty quickly and you want to be sure to have everything that you need.

And have fun! This one has a huge fun factor for me, especially the cardio and I add this on by itself to other mish moshes quite often.

Laura,

You can also purchase some plated weights so you don't have to go to the trouble of doubling the bars. And with the plated weights you can always match the weight that Cathe uses.

That's a good idea Haydee. In the meantime sounds like I will have to figure out some way to double up the bars. And as far as the rows go the heaviest dumbells I have are a measly 10 lbs so I guess I'll have to figure something out.

Maybe use the dynabands (the thickest ones) to increase your load like Cathe does in LIC (maybe it's BM2..not sure). Wrap the band around the bar with the loose ends and hold the band down by stepping on it with your feet wider to create more resistance. Otherwise, I'm not sure. It may be worth it to see if Walmart or Target has those barbells. I got one with 55 pounds of weight for $14.99. SOOO worth it!

Carolyn

PS, I think you'll find that HSC isn't all that hard. IMO, DM and BC are WAY harder.

The music in HSC is wonderful! But Carolyn is right, it's not as difficult as DM. It moves REALLY quickly though, so be prepared for that.

I've used dumb bells very successfully. Either put the bells on your shoulders, or down from your body. It's easy, and sometimes safer. Investing in a set of weights and barbells are so worth the expense. Wall Mart has them for reasonable prices.

The idea is to die young as late as possible.
