Troy vs. US Weight

Cathlete
I am debating between which one to buy. The Troy Lite Weight Set or the US Weight 55lb Weight Set. Does anyone have any suggestions on which I should buy?

Thanks,

Katie

My wife and I both use the US weight set from Wal-Mart and they were inexpensive and they work fine! Only problem is that the bar is a little narrow for my shoulders but it fits my wife (she is small framed) perfectly.

I've never used the US Weight system so I can't compare, but I like the Troy system because the bar can accommodate up to 80 pounds of weight plates, making increases in strength something that won't render my equipment obsolete.

I use the US Weight set, and it works fine for me. Mine was the 120-pound set at Wal-Mart so I think mine obviously is made to accommodate more weight...not that i ever go past 35!! Not that superhuman yet!!:D

I don't know about the US Weight set, but I LOVE my Troy Lite (I have two sets!). It is compact and the weight plates are rubber coated (y previous all-metal plates were getting rusty). You can also get 2.5# and 1.25# plates to go with it, which is nice for microloading.

When I was looking into taking the Barbell plunge I did a search here, and I ended up getting the Troy lite. I really liked the idea of rubber coated plates (LOVE THEM now that I have them) Also if I remember correctly the US Weight set came in 8,10,20 WAY to heavy for me at the time. They stopped making the 1.25 plates, but I really use my 2.5 pound plates and 5lbs ones when I am going up on weight. Also when I ordered I bought a really nice bar pad which I really like with all those squats and lunges. BTW I ordered from Fitness1st Good luck!! Hope this helped!!

Where can I purchase the Troy Lite weight system? And if it is only online, how much is the shipping? TIA.

They stopped making the 1.25# plates? Glad I stocked up when I did. I thought I saw them, though, last time I ordered. Maybe just wishful thinking.

Kathryn you are SOOOOOO lucky that you did!! When I had ordered they had just stopped carrying them. I was really bummed, but what I have found that has worked is...... You know those little doughnut hand like weights I just put them on each end of my barbell and that does the trick:D

Vera I ordered from fitness1st.com They have the weight set, but I ended up ordering the barbell and 4-10lbs plates, 2-5lbplates, and 2-2.5lbs plates, and 2 sets of spring collars. Cathe recommended the plate poundage, and ya know ya CAN'T go wrong if you listen to Cathe;-) Good luck!!

P:S: My shipping was like 20ish something. I live in the MidWest. You can go ahead and put your order in the computer and that will give you a idea what shipping is going to run.
