Trouble "stepping"

Cathlete
Are you all good "steppers"? Even though I love to dance (and was a cheerleader back in the day---WAY back!) I am having a heck of time following some of Cathe's step workouts. I'm just impatient I guess and would like to bypass the time it takes to learn. Anyone have any ingenious ways of learning the steps? Once I have them down I have fun with it but the new Cathe DVDs I just got are looking pretty complicated!

RE: Trouble

I'm really good once I get the steps down. But it takes a few times. I'm not very patient either, and I don't preview very well. I'd rather just throw it in and have a go than sit and watch. Sometimes that ends in tears, mind you;) Perseverence is the key. And have fun. Laugh when you screw up. And if you miss a step, just do something else.

RE: Trouble

I think those of use who "grew up with" Cathe workouts, and have been doing them all along, have a distinct advantage over people who are newer to her workouts. In earlier workouts, she broke down moves a bit more, calling off the individual steps in some. Now, when I hear "over-face-in-over" I just do it automatically.

As for learning the steps: I always preview workouts before I do them, and if I see a move that looks tricky, count out the steps, and pay attention to the foot movement.

RE: Trouble

I have NEVER previewed her workouts before I try them. Like I said, I'm too impatient. I would rather learn it by doing it, even if it's the first time I've seen it. And I do screw up alot, which doesn't bother me, but sometimes I am just amazed at the whole step sequence - I'm baffled by it cause they're moving fast and I think what I need is to see it in slow motion. (Can I DO that with a DVD player??)

RE: Trouble

Yup, you can do that with your dvd player. I did it with mine. It helped a lot for some of the Imax 3 moves. There should be a button that advances frame by frame. It will probably look like a little left or right arrow (forward and back), but not the one with the line next to it. That advances to the next chapter.

RE: Trouble

Imax 3 is the one I'm having trouble with as a matter of fact! I'll try that with the DVD and see what I come up with. Thanks for the help!

RE: Trouble

I had always failed miserably at stepping prior to Cathe so when I decided to give her a try and made sure to start with the Basic Step and Body Fusion DVD! That dvd gave me a great intro to step and taught me the basic moves....from there I moved on to her other, more complicated work outs. I basically just replayed the parts I had trouble with a few times every time I did a work out until I got it down...I'm not big on previewing...no patience for that but I WILL do a little previewing before I do a work out just to get a "taste" of what I'm in for. ;)

RE: Trouble

Although I've been stepping with Cathe for several years and have managed to "conquer" them all, I found that IMAX 3 was the hardest for me to learn. In fact, I still screw up on a few of the IMAX 3 segments.

This from a person who found Step Blast relatively easy to learn!

Just so ya know you're not alone!

RE: Trouble

From what I'm hearing it sounds like it would probably be helpful if I purchase the basic step workout rather than just jump into something intense like Imax. I feel like my kid when he couldn't hit the baseball on the first few tries. He'd get mad and throw his bat on the ground and cry and go in the house. Well, I guess I'm not that bad... I'm determined to step!!!!! :7

RE: Trouble

I bought BodyMax about a year ago and I was so frustrated I went back to all those boring workouts by others. I gave Basic Step and Body Fusion a try, loved them and now I can do her other stuff so much easier. It isn't easy but since I allowed myself to get into her slowly, it is much easier and now that I can do it, I love it!
