Treats?

Need some advice from you folks! I'd say I've got a pretty clean diet. I'm not perfect, but I refuse to "diet" -- rather, I like to incorporate a variety of healthy foods (and colors, vitamins, antioxidants, yada yada yada) into my "diet". Here's what I'm looking for:

I can space out my meals and have a good combo of proteins, carbs and fat usually per meal/snack. However, I find that I do even better if I allow myself one treat a day. Like one chocolate chip cookie with lunch (deprivation leads to binging for me, so moderation is my game).

If I have a real cookie (or whatever) at work, I usually buy it at work...I live alone and don't like to have batches of treats around. But, I'd like to buy some good treats, maybe already packaged that I could have once a day. Do you all have any tips or products you use?

I used to buy protein bars, which did the trick, but after reading all the ingredients, etc, I'd almost rather have one of the real deal then be done with it.

Let me know your ideas...

Well, I am the opposite of you. Once I start with the junk, I can't stop. But when I am on track and really want sugar, I will suck on a jawbreaker or eat a tootsie pop. They last longer than other junk. Good for you for only eating one cookie! If I have one, I will have 5. Melissa

You might try buying those packages which have individually wrapped portions inside. That at least lends itself to the concept of limiting access... in theory, anyway. ;-)

I'm like Melissa, though, once I start, I can't stop, so I have to be very, very careful!

Did you try Luna bars? These tend to have less of the perverse ingredients of the other "healthy" protein bars.

Good luck!
Marie

Hey if your body reacts ok to sugar achols then pure protein bars in chocolate are actually very tasty, expecially cold. The fats, sugars, and total calories are all very reasonable and 20grams of protein so not bad for a treat. Check out the nutrition facts and 6 for 5 bucks at target the price isnt bad either.
Also if your spacing out your meals and doing caloric tapering then perhaps start the day off with a treat so you'll feel good and front load those calories.

I agree: most of them are no more than glorified candy bars, and are 1/2 full of ingredients from a test tube!

I like Larabars. All raw, natural ingredients, but they taste junky enough to satisfy that craving. Cherry Pie is one of my favorites (but Pecan pie, and banana, and chocolate cocoanut, and ginger, and apple pie....are all pretty good as well!)

I know what you mean about not wanting to have batches of treats around. Seems like a lot of "treats" come in huge quantities! One thing you could do, for cookies, for example, is freeze some in smaller amounts (like in small freezer bags). Other, non-freezeable treats you could break up into serving sizes and put in snack bags.
