Treadmil Questions

I'm wanting to get a treadmil sometime in the future. I'm thinking of the ones that are self-propelled and can be folded up to be put out of the way. I've got space issues. I had a motorized treadmil that I sold about 4 years ago (I'd joined a gym and we wanted to put a computer desk in the space). If I had the space (and the money) I'd get a motorized one. Does anyone have any advice on which ones to look at and which ones to avoid?

Thanks,
Kimbra

I don't know how you use your treadmill, but you can't jog or run on the self-propelled ones. They're for walking only. My mom used to have one, but ended up getting a motorized treadmill due to the limitations of the self-propelled one. Also, most of them tend to be cheaply-made and fall apart easily. My mom had problems with the belt slipping, and the edges fraying easily.

I have a NordicTrack C8100s and I have not had any problems with it. I can set programs and I can change my incline. There is also the option of hooking it up to my laptop and using ifit.com. I have had it a couple years now so I don't know if you can get it any more.

Sabrina, that's a motorized treadmill, right? I didn't think NordicTrack made any non-motorized ones... but I could be wrong.

I have NO experience with the self propelled treadmills, but I've never heard anything good about them. I would be wary of buying one. Everyone I know who ever had one, hated it and got rid of it.

Motorized treadmills are pretty space friendly too. Most of them fold up when not in use.

My girlfriend has one she bought on QVC about a year ago and loves it. She uses it 4 or 5 times a week but like someone said, it's not appropriate for running.

I've thought about getting one so I've been researching them on the net. The Phoenix 516 seems to get good reviews. Check out Amazon.com. They usually have one listed.

I also have no experience with the self-propelled treadmills. I recently bought a treadmill from ShopNBC. It looks like the one I bought is no longer available, but here is a link to one that looks just like mine, but is newer. http://www.iconfitness.com/cgi-bin/...play?prmenbr=979&prrfnbr=550597&cgrfnbr=10671

I love it. It is compatible with IFIT workouts. You just put the CD in and do nothing. The treadmill speeds up and slows down and also inclines and declines by itself. Also it folds up, but is still kind of big and very heavy. It has wheels on it and you're supposed to be able to tip it and roll it where ever you want. I'm short and I can't get enough to leverage to tilt the thing. So I have in front of our fireplace in the corner and I keep it folded up except when I'm using it.

Check the Horse power on the treadmill before buying. If you use it a lot and it’s below 2hp will not last long. Like Jeanne Marie said, most will fold up to save space.

You might check your local newspaper, a lot of people give up on using them and sell them for a lot less than you would pay at the store.

Hello Kimbra!

I have been researching and saving money like mad for a treadmill for several months now. I will agree with Tammy that www.treadmilldoctor.com is the BEST site for research.

Bottom line, what I have found is that this is one item that you really get what you pay for. It is best to really figure out what you need and try to get that...even if it means patience. Something I have had to practice!! That website has a quiz you can take to really figure out your needs and price range, but it is best to get the best you can possibly afford.

I also searched consumerreports, and they had nothing but problems with the Nordic Track and the Pro Form. Just because it has a known name and bells and whistles doesn't mean it will last.
