Transformation Challenge 3/17-3/23

Good afternoon!

Exercise is powerful medicine for both anxiety and depression. Duke University researchers found that adults with major depression who worked out for 45 minutes a day did just as well after four months as a group taking Zoloft. In a six month follow up, the exercisers were less likely to relapse (8% vs 38%).

GET YOUR EXERCISE IN AND LIFT YOUR SPIRITS AT THE SAME TIME!:D

And one more quote from Alice Domar PhD: "A normal life means feeling pretty satisfied with the way things are, having some moments of joy and some moments of sadness and anxiety."

Today's workout is Imax2. Make this week great y'all!:)

It's a beautiful day out.Spring is FINALLY HERE!!!!!:D It's all muddy.Taking Gorday for a nice long walk later. He went to the beauty palor yesterday. He's all shaved.Doing pretty good with my workouts.I'm starting another cleanse class tomorrow night.Looking forward to it.

Wildpony, glad to hear your all better.
Fitdoc,Your a cleaning manic.
JuliN,how are you doing on the SF challenge?I just got the new issue for April. Can't wait to check it out.

Hello,to everyone out there. You ladies are doing awesome.
Have to get my butt moving and do some laundry and stretching before walking.Take care.

Hi!
Fitdoc, thank you for starting the week with such a nice topic.

Debbie, thanks for clearification, you got me guessing there for a second ;) ....( I was hoping it was missing a "don't"):7

Otisan, the band for your wedding sounds so great. Great fun!

Warm hellos to everyone.

I did Joyce's fast forward Cycles 1 & 2 today with some pilates.
I've been thinking of BOSU these days... which is scary, because I don't want to buy it yet!!!
There must be an end to this madness!;) }(

Have a great day.
:)

Very appropriate topic Fitdoc. I'm sure we all need a way to work off some of the anxiety these scary days. I know exercise is a great stress reliever for me. BTW, I think our sons would have a lot in common. Mine also runs upstairs and plays his drums when he comes home. The piano playing starts soon after. I haven't missed the drum playing but I've really missed the piano since he has been at college. He would always play after supper during my clean up the kitchen time and I loved it. My younger ds plays also, but it isn't as much of a passion with him. Guess I'll have to learn how to play next fall.

Started my 2nd week of Mandy's rotation today with PS CST. Tomorrow is a tennis day, weather permitting. Have a nice evening all.

Gloria

Hey everyone - yes working out is such medicine for so many things. Yep pretty scary state of the world today. On Sunday our minster announced we would have a 7:00 service the night war is declared and looks like that will be in 2 days now. Sad and scary times.

Was a beautiful day today (I only listened to 2 mins of the speach tonight) and a wonderful IMAX workout.

Best to everyone

Good Late Monday Night All,

Today was youngest dd turn for braces. Last night (Sunday) Dh cooked pork ribs and beef ribs with corn on cob for dd. Then dd went over and spent night with older sister and pigged out on caramel, popcorn, hard candies, sticky candies, gum and all the things she needs to stay away from for the next couple of years. I was soo glad that they took their sugar high to other house.

Today was another run 4.5 mile today and then ab work. I got in PLB yesterday.

See ya all tomorrow,
Debbie

Michelle- I might just be normal then? Woo Hoo Go Me……;) Well I can dream can’t I? Tee hee….

Bita- It was that missing “don’t” that used to get me in all sorts of trouble. ;)

Gloria- Your ds and Michelle’s ds shows how cool it would have been to have sons. Don’t get me wrong I looooove my girls but to hear music being played by your boys sure does sound nice. With my girls there is an awful lot of squealing instead, but hey I’m with them on that one too. Poor Dh he never stood a chance. Good thing he doesn’t mind.

Robyn- I hear ya on sign of the times. I feel sort of guilty for going on with my same ole same ole knowing that in a matter of hours a new history chapter will be written. We have been doing a lot of talking to our 12 yr old dd about “things” lately as she has been very concerned. Honesty, compassion, logic and politics don’t mix together very well but reality is reality and that is what we are focusing on with her. Heck of a way to work in Sociology and Political Science for school work this week.

Otisan, FS, Juli and anyone I fazed on hello from me.

What a great topic, Fitdoc! I think the combination of working out and the springtime coming makes a good combination, too :)

Yesterday's workout was PS L&A plus a long walk after work. Today I'm going to do PS CST and some cardio, haven't decided which one yet.

Gloria, where is Mandy's rotation listed? I've gone to both Cathe's & the Yaya site and can't find it. It sounds great. Good luck with it!

Bita, what is BOSU? I've seen it listed on other threads, but have no idea what it is. I've been on such a workout gear buying frenzy, I just might end up getting that one too! In fact, right after I post, I'm going to buy some more Cathe DVD's :p

Robyn, I'm also concerned with the winds of war upon us. My DF says that it may extend longer than the "48 hours", probably until the next new moon. Even still, that's April 1st and that's still coming up....

Wildpony, oh, the rite of passage getting braces. How is she handling it so far? I hope she adjusts well (and flosses often!) I'm glad she got all those chewy gooey foods out of her system (and in another house) :)

Waves to FS, Juli, Janice & Smiley.

Have a great day, everyone!

I just finished Muscle Endurance. I am a noodle - but a happy noodle!

(Debbie, I know what you mean about having "all boys" or "all girls". Maybe if DH and I adopt a foster child - I can get my daughter afterall! Shhh - DH doesn't know this is on the agenda!):D

Enjoy this day!

Hi chix. I'm just back from 4 days in Daytona Beach and I'm so rested it's sickening! Had such a blast. Saturday at breakfast my DH says"I'm taking you to do something you're either gonna love or hate!" WELL, I LOVED it! No, not that! We went to a go-cart track and they had 4 real dragsters side by side. You sit in it and when the lights turn green you actually go for it! 0 to 75 mph in less than 4 seconds. What a RUSH! I had to do it twice. You can't get hurt because the cars on tracks so that they can't get sideways. But! you sure go fast in a straight line. Sure was fun! OK that's quite enough about me.

Hi to Debbie-so glad you're doing ok. Hi to Otisan-Sounds like you're on a workout roll! Good going!

Hi to Bita-I think that BOSU thing is a workout tool that's like half of a rubber ball mounted on a flat surface. You use it for balance and strength while doing pushups etc. I could be wrong but I think that's what it is.

Hi to Firmscorpio. You sound good these days! So glad!

Hi to Gloria-We're having the best weather arent we? It's almost 80 today here.

Hi fitdoc-Great topic. I spent my lunchhour today with DD and new baby. I took care of him while she took a nice hot bath. She's such a mess with this war thing looming. She doesn't even know where her DH is right now! Let's just pray a lot for our young men and women over there. They need it.

Have a great week all and forgive me if I've forgotten some people. (Senior moment) LOL.....Janice

This morning i did ME for the first time. It's not as BRUTAL as her usual workouts(oops, did i say that?)of course, you can always make it more brutal but, what i mean is that it is fun and it still tools you!! I felt great. Now, to get my eating under control.I have my first cleanse class tonight.I'm so looking forward to it.it's been very nice out.The snow is melting.Water and MUD serious mud everywhere.Great weather to get out and walk.

Goldengirl,those go-carts sound like a ball.Prayers to your family.
Otisan,I'm glad your wedding plans are falling into place.

Waves to everyone!!!

Hi!
Well, spring is near (two more days!)! I love the smell of the whole earth begining!
FS, you must be so happy with the beautiful weather, to get out for your nice walks.

Janice, I am glad you are all rested and had a great vacation. That reminds me, I NEED a vacation!!!! Seems like every day is striving, striving, striving, ....;)
I hope your DD's DH is and will be safe, along with millions of other lives involved.

Otisan, the BOSU, is like half of the stability ball, like a "bubble".
The purpose of its creation was awareness of the whole body, & creating more balance. It is not supposed to be a harder work, but much easier on the joints. I am going to wait on this. As you might know, Mindy has a new stregth tape and dvd coming: "Awesome Strength" which she uses the BOSU in it. Eventhough she has the other two exercisers showing other variations, I just feel the temptation when I see her doing it on the BOSU!!!!}(

Warm Hi to everyone.

I did Imax and Pilates on the stability ball today.

Have a great night.
:)

A big Hi to all of the Challengers before I go downstairs and do SS with my DH. Fitdoc, get topic. I am a big believer in exercise. Depression is rampant in my family, but I don't have it. It's as if exercise and the health that accompanies it, has vaccinated me against it.

I would like to post longer, but my sweetie is calling me. I'll check in later.

Juli

Hi Everyone!

Well, I didn't workout last night, but I did order the S & H series & the DVD with Rhythmic Step & IMAX on it. I've been on such a Kari aerobic kick lately I need some new Cathe's. CST is on the burner for tonight and the cardio from CTX Step & Intervals. That'll get me ready for IMAX.....

JANICE!! So happy to see you! I'm glad you & VDH had a great vacation. Our plans for the Grand Canyon fell through. The cabin at the base has a 23 month waiting list. So we're going to New Orleans for Jazz fest.

Bita, thank you for the info on the BOSU. Your description sounds wonderful and it's good for the ol' knee, too. Do any of Cathe's tapes use it?

Fitdoc, I've been happy reading about your DS's improved musical talent. And it's only been a few months, imagine how great he's going to be when he graduates :D

Warm waves to everyone! Have a great day :)

Hey All,

Today after youngest dd 2nd microdermabrasion treatment and a stop at the pet store for crickets for our geckos I will get in a 5 mile run. I got in PUB yesterday , this one has become so easy for me now. I use 12, 15 & 20lbs just the same as Cathe does, but I don’t want to move up to higher weights I mean I’m not trying to become a man or anything. What do you all think about my just staying where I’m at even though it has become so easy? I know I need a challenge but sheezz I’m not a truck driver. Well at least not a big rig. ;) I suppose I could change w/o and give this one a rest but I love it so much. Besides its my running program I’m trying really challenge myself with right now. I don’t know I’m just thinking aloud. Care to share an opinion?

See ya all later,
Debbie

Otisan- Dd is doing okay with braces, she was really ready to start so she can finish all that much sooner. She is quite meticulous with her teeth, she has only ever had one cavity on a baby tooth at that. She brushes and flosses everyday, she has great habits. All of this I think is mirrored from her big sis who went through braces too and has beautiful teeth/smile. Any ways thanks for asking. :)

Janice- My thoughts are defiantly with all our service people over in Iraq right now. Tell your dd that my thoughts are with her now too.

FS- ME is fun isn’t it?

Bita- That BOSU thing looks cool. I wonder if it’s harder initially on the ankles though. I have weak ankles and I have thought that the BOSU looks like it might help strengthen them. Hmmm just a though.

Juili- I hear ya on the blues thing. Exercise is my medication for sure!

Michelle- I’m always awed by people who can create like musicians and other artist. I think it is so wonderful that your ds has the opportunity and desire to explore and follow his talents. To think that some people opt to just follow the mainstream and never allowing themselves to realize their own potential is so sad. I had a friend in HS that was the greatest on the saxophone even was invited to play at the White House as a kid, but when he grew up and finish HS his parents pushed him into the family business. His sax never made it off the closet shelf again. Such a waste.

Hi!
Hope your day is beautiful.

Otisan, Cathe doesn't have any w/o with BOSU...Not yet!!;) But actually it is quite possible to use it easily for her workouts. Because all one needs to do is for the upper body, stand on it instead of the floor, utilizing the balance aspect. can be used for the push ups, for lunges,.... Seriously though, don't let me tempt you!!!! I am not really sold on it yet, but am doing some research on it. I hate to buy things that are for short term use. I love things to be like jeans, always functional, always in style!!
And the main thing, New Orlean sound awesome! You two sound like couple of fun loving individuals. Good for you.

Debbie, I say you are absolutely correct. The toughness of the BOSU on the joints, ankles for example, is not a wear and tear type though. It's like any balance and stabilization training. Where the muscles around the joint(s) are the ones that are active. There is not supposed to be much movement at the joint(s). So the muscles are working hard to stabilize the body, to keep its balance with co-contraction between agoninst and antagonist muscle. The principle of "opposing forces equalizing each other". Then one strengthens the muscle to give the joint stability. This is really the beauty of balance training, with or without the BOSU or any other toys as such.

Warm hellos to everyone.

I did Joyce's fast forward, the third cycle and extra ab. And since it was 45 minutes long, I added some power yoga to make it an even one hour! It's almost time for me to do a three week rotation of S&H. Monday, hopefully. I love that series.

Have a magical and peaceful night!
:)

Hi All --

My DH and I changed our minds last night and did Vol. 1 instead of SS. I did the whole tape since I had plenty of time. Tonight I opted for a rest night because it's time to organize things for taxes. It's always my job to add up and categorize all the contributions for the year. It took me about 2 hours to do but I feel proud of myself. Taxes are not the most fun thing to do.

FS -- I'm still working on the Challenge. The main thing that I notice is that it makes me do 1 more cardio that I normally would. Since I'm an ectomorph, I don't worry much about weight so I'm not concerned about fatburning. I know cardio is still important for my heart, though, so I always make sure I get it. Do you have a subscription to SELF? It sounds like you might because you already have the April issue. I have to wait til it hits the newstands.

The weather has been beautiful in Cincinnati and earlier this week, my DH and I made our first trip of the season to the driving range. My Transformation goal for Spring/Summer is to improve my golf game. Can you believe we're almost one-quarter through the year?!!! My how time flies!

My best to all! Big Waves!!

Juli

Hi all,

Got in a double wo this morning since I've missed a couple of days. CTX 10-10-10 & PS BBA. DS is having his wisdom teeth out tomorrow and we have to leave at 7am so I may have another double wo on Sat.

Janice, great to see you back. I'm glad Daytona was fun for you and DH. Said a special prayer for your daughter and sil this morning. It must be so tough to have a loved one involved in this war.

Otisan, Mandy's rotation is at the ya-ya site under the check-ins and challenges thread. I've enjoyed the first 2 weeks, it's very doable. Next week S&H gets thrown in to the mix which will be a little tougher. When is the Jazz Festival in NO? That's just up DF alley isn't it?

Debbie, "I mean I'm not trying to become a man or anything." LOL!!! Your VDH may have an opinion on that.

Juli, I was wondering what happened to your golf game. I'm not a golfer but we have tickets to the practice round at the Masters in April. I'm looking forward to seeing the course. My Dad is an avid golfer so I grew up knowing about all the players. It will be fun to see some of those guys. No women of course. I hope I don't have to cross a picket line to get in this year.

See you gals later,
Gloria

Hi girls. Gosh, Fitdoc! You mde me feel so good. Thanks for the warm welcome back!:) I missed you too! I spent lunch hour with DD and new baby. She's trying to be brave but she's pretty scared.

Hi to Firmscorpio. Do you like ME? I'm thinking of getting it after I get Susan's 2 Fit Prime tapes.

Bita-Thanks for your welcome back too. Vacations are great, aren't they? Even short ones. Thanks for well wishes for DD and her DH.

Juli-Good for you to work out with DH! Mine won't do that. He'll walk with me but that's all. He's seen how hard I go at it and he doesn't want any part of that!!!

Otisan!Hi sweetie! Glad you and DF are going to have some fun. New Orleans should be lots of fun! Be sure and call me if you're near us again. We had such a great time with ya'll!! DH still talks about it.

Hi Debbie-How I remember braces! My DD wore them 3 years but has the beautiful smile to show for it. It's SO worth it!Sounds like your running program is doing well.

Forgot to say I did Strong Bear(FP) yesterday. LOVE that tape. Tonight is one of the cardio Cathe's(Maybe IMAX2) If I have the guts!

Bita-Do you like Joyce's tapes. I've heard both good and bad things. I TRUST your judgement. Thinking of getting one of hers. Any suggestions?

Juli-Don't you love Vol#1? I sure do. When I pick up the case and see Susan's autograph it just makes me smile!!(Might do that one toniight)

We're under a tornado watch right now and it's looking very bad here at work. Thundering and lightning like crazy too. Shesh-NOW it's hailing! Think I'll close for now and get my butt home! Talk to ya'll tomorrow......Janice

Today's workout was Cardio&Weights. I always feel so good after that one! (Yesterday was a rest day.)

Juli (I think your exercise is a great "vaccine"!)

Otisan, I've never been to New Orleans. I'm not a real rugged individual - so New Orleans sounds more appealing than the Grand Canyon!

Debbie, what is the "microdermabrasion" for?

Gloria, oooh a double workout!

Janice, I'll be sending positive thoughts your daughter's way. It's got to be very hard to be in her position.

Waves to everybody. I've got to get back to work:D
