training shoes

I have a question about cross trainers. I replace my running shoes about every six monthes, should I also replace my cross training shoes about every six monthes or sooner since I use them more? How often do any of you replace your shoes? Also I have flat feet and my arches tend to hurt when I do step aerobics but every time I try to use an insole I get blisters. Any suggestions?

What type of insoles are you using? I think Spenco makes one with minimal arch support while SofSole's (?) arches are higher and bother me.

As for replacing cross-trainers - I don't follow a strict timetable the way I do for my running shoes (tho, I've read recently that they should be replaced after THREE hundred miles, not SIX as previously advised - but, I think it's propoganda started by the shoe companies :D). I just go by the way the cushioning feels.

I think cross-trainers take less of a beating than running shoes because we're not constantly pounding the floor in them.
