Totally OT - Thoughts on a Good Flat Iron

I have very thick curly hair and need a good flat iron or blow dryer.

I am not worried about the pice b/c honestly the cheaper ones have not worked.

Anyone have some suggestions?
:)

I've never used a flat iron but I've heard the ceramic ones are good.

Make sure that it's a ceramic iron and it has lots of different settings. That way you can set it to what will straighten your hair, but not fry it.
And be sure to get a good protective product. I use Treseme.

I still can't figure out why anyone would want to straighten their hair. I think curly hair is beautiful. The grass is greener, I guess.

I had a Chi Turbo ceramic flat iron. Unfortunately, I am flat iron challenged and didn't have the patience to persevere. My stylist recommended it and it truly was an awesome product. She could make my hair look like silk! It was expensive, though, at $150.

I've heard you should go to a beauty supply store and be prepared to pay at least $75.00. You can get ceramic ones for about $20, but the more expensive ones are better. I have hair that tends to poof, but it reasonably straight, so the $20 ones work fine for me.

Chi and Solano are the best . You can buy them online, beauty supply stores, bed bath beyond & Ulta (use online coupon 20% or mailed coupon for bbb or ulta)

Good Luck!

Just make sure it is a 400 degree iron. With a dial. Test it on a towel or toilet paper so you don't burn your hair.I have seen it done.
I just bought a chi. It does not impress me and it was on sale for 99.00 professional discount.I like my old one better.
Make sure you buy a flat iron protectant.
You can get a good one at Sally's beauty or whatever is your area that will sell to you.
Don't waste money on a name.
I used to buy Super Solano Dryers. 95.00 and would die in a year.
2 of them.

Thanks guys! I was leaning towards the Chi but wanted to make sure.

I don't straighten it all the time but sometimes I like the change. Thanks for all the suggestions on protectants as well.

:)

Another vote for Chi.

I also own an ionic blow dryer and I think it makes a big difference. They cost more, but IMO, are worth it for keeping away the frizz and fly aways.

One more vote for the Chi. I've owned about 4 flat irons thinking the cheaper ceramic ones would work but the Chi just works SOOO much better. Be careful to use products to protect your hair (like flat iron spray)before you use it. Also, the smaller the "chunks" of hair you straighten at a time, the better it will look. If you try and grab too much hair to iron, it ends up looking very flat and won't move as well.

I have the Solia, which I paid about $100 for. It is worth it's weight in gold! Folica.com is a great place to research these--lots of consumer opinions.

I have a really good one made by Paul Mitchell.I get mine at cost though b/c I use to be a hairstylist. I paid $130 for mine so I am assuming it will sell for $199 or something.
In my eyes you get what you pay for.Sometimes you can get them on sale to.

I bought the chi flat iron and the T2 tourmaline hairdryer both expensive but also great for straightening hair. I got the flat iron off ebay and the hairdryer off amazon for almost half the cost and I've had no problems with either. Highly suggest checking prices on both those sites.

I've had 3 different brands, CHI, FHI, and Hot tools, and the one I like the best is the FHI "ION" with a control nob of up to 450 degree. I brought the FHI a little over a year ago and at that time they had 3 different sizes. HTH:)

Hot Tools, model #1190 is the best! I have wavy hair and tends to be thicker at top and this iron is the only thing that works my hair. I got mine at the hair salon that I go too. It heats up in seconds. Gets very hot and most of the time these irons are sold out so I was lucky to find one the last time I went. Cost alittle more...like 30ish, but well worth it!
