Too much Leg Work?

I am really trying to get my legs in tip top shape and have heard that you should work them out 5 days a week, but where is the rest inbetween for the muscles to repair themselves? For example, I just did 3 sets of BBM (Big Butt Management) w/weights for legs and butt yesterday. I got DOMS in my glutes and so should I do another leg workout today? I know how much I can do with my upperbody and what works for me there, but not sure about the approach for legs.

This is what my workouts have been looking like....

upper body/bike riding
Imax 2
upperbody
lowmax
BBM
Another leg workout today?

Suggestions?

Charlotte~~

Hey Charlotte:7
Working the legs everyday is called Freestyle training, but not with real heavy weights. I don't see a problem, but if your legs and glutes are to tired listen to your body, and don't push it!! Take a rest!! Btw I think you look GREAT!!

Nicole,

Thanks for explaining that to me and thanks for the compliment! Well since I used weights yesterday I will just rest them today. I still will work upperbody so I don't want to be come completely lazy! LOL!

Also, with freestyle training, you work the legs almost everyday with no rest days so the muscles can't repair and grow. Rest days help your muscles grow and consecutive days with "low weight" will not allow muscles to grow(much). So, if you want more muscle "size" the freestyle method might not be what you want to do.

Oxygen Magazine has a special edition out for the Glutes. It has some great ideas for working out the legs and glutes.:)

Charlotte, can you tell me about the BBM workout? Where did you get it and is there a place to preview it? What differences have you noticed with this workout? I'm always looking for a good butt and thigh workout as those areas have always been my trouble spots. I hope you don't mind my questions. :7
Thanks. Bam

Hey, Charlotte! The ladies above have already said what I was going to say. LOL. Freestyle training is, in fact, working your lower half 5-6 times per week, but the rule of thumb with Freestyle is to use 70-75% the weight you would normally use on a heavy leg day. Freestlye really promotes lots and lots of lunges...walking, front, reverse, cross over, etc. It also promotes running and biking as mainstays of the cross training cardio since it works the legs so much.

I did Freestyle for 6 weeks before this month's Strength rotation and got some really good slimming results in my quads, butt and hips.

Good luck!

Gayle

Gayle,

I've been kind of interested in Freestyle training. When you have time would you post the freestyle w/o you did for those 6 weeks? I'd really appreciate it.

Sorry Charlotte, I didn't mean to highjack your thread.

Michele

Thanks for all the information everyone! I am just trying to find the right approach for my legs and so now I got some more great ideas. I really want to bulk up my legs just alittle more so my butt looks smaller and I look stronger, but want to sculpt them too so now I will have to come up with a plan...should I just do freestyle or mix in w/weights too? Hmmmmm. What would you do if you had my body?

Charlotte~~

LOL, Charlotte! If I had your body/shape/etc, I'd be in a size 0! LOL. Just kidding. I've heard you comment a few times on these boards that you are trying to "bulk up" and get excited when you see an INcrease in size as opposed to a DEcrease, so your question (even if it was rhetorical) made me laugh! LOL

Michele, when I get a chance later today or tomorrow, I'll pull out my rotation for those 6 weeks and post it for you, ok? I don't have the time right now as my younger DS has a friend over and QUIET 5 year olds is not ALWAYS a good thing! LOL

What is this Michele...another ploy to NOT do cardio!? Michele has to work her legs every day so...OOPS...no time for cardio today!:p :+ :7
