This is sort of personal and far more information than you all would like on me I'm sure but here goes!

I have horrible, stomach cramping gas! By process of elimination I'm pretty sure its caused by wheat, protein, AND dairy. Does anyone else have this problem and if so do I just rid myself of those 3 food groups and basically live on veggies and fruit only? How do I get enough protein? Is there something I can take? I've tried the over the counter type medications with no help whatsoever. Protein shakes and bars seem to definitely make my problem even worse. I've put up with this problem long enough and am ready to fix it!

Are you lactose intolerate? Cuz i do believe there is meds for that or at least foods that cause that less I remember a long time ago when i used to workout w/Charlene Pricket"s Tv show IT Figures and this guy Lonny always complaine dabout gas and Charlene highly recommended Beano which is an Over the counter medicine Have you tried this.

Chelle, you need to discuss this with your doctor. It sounds like you have irritable bowel syndrome but there are other possibilities. The info at mayoclinic.com is helpful.

Wheat & dairy intolerance are common triggers for IBS, but protein intolerance is surprising. Something to discuss with a medical expert.

Good luck.

Don't eliminate them all at once, eliminate them one at a time so you'll know which food is the culprit. I'd say dairy is the most likely and the easiest to eliminate, so try that first. Also, it could be gluten intolerance. It's not only found in wheat, but also barley and rye and there are lots of hidden sources of gluten you need to watch out for. 1% of the population has this, it's genetic and you can find out with a blood test if you have it. My daughter has it, so I know a fair amount. Here's a website for that one, but if I were you, I'd try milk and milk products first.

Does eliminating dairy also mean soymilk? I use this in my cereal and otehrwise the only other dairy I get somewhat regularly is some cheese and yogurt. Will try eliminating those first and see what happens. Then wheat then protein I guess. Thanks everyone!

You may want to narrow down the culprit(s) by doing an elimination diet (maybe you can look up "elimination diet" on the web, or consult with a nutritionist). You basically give up all foods that may be culprits and eat only "safe" foods (like rice and some veggies) for a couple of days (I don't remember the specifics, but I just want to give you an idea of what it's like). Then you gradually add back in one of the suspected foods. If everything is o.k. after a couple of days (again, not exact), then you add in food #2. When you hit a food that gives you distress, you'll have found the culprit.

Taking a digestive enzyme like "beano" or "yes I can eat beans" (which is available through www.dixiediner.com ) for beans and cruciferous veggies, for example, can help supply your body with the digestive enzymes that it may be lacking, and help you digest the foods that give you minor problems. There are different enzymes for different categories of food, and different types of digestive enzymes may contaiin different combos.

Soymilk is plant based, so it is not considered dairy. Dairy items come from mammals (cows, goats, etc.) Anything made from them, i.e. milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, icecream, etc.

Hope this helps!
