To the ladies who bought the Golds Gym weight rack-

copwife

Cathlete
How has it been working for you? Still a good deal for the price?

I am considering buying this, as I can't go up in my squat weight until I get a squat rack...lifting 59lbs. over my head is my limit. I did lift 65 over my head, but could only do it for 2 sets safely.

Michelle, I absolutely think it's a good deal for the price. I have been using it three times a week since I got it for heavy bench presses and squats. Oh and for heavy calf raises too. I could never get heavy enough for calf raises before. It's big and takes up a fair bit of space, but it slides easily (without the wts on it). If you've got the room and the money, I say go for it!!

Hi Michele! I just posted this in the STS forum...I LOVE my rack and so glad I got it BUT I need a new bar that is longer...read on...

Hey you all...I have changed my mind on the Troy working well with the Gold's Gym set-up now that I have used it several times. Reason being...it works fine sitting on the rack ONCE it is loaded, BUT trying to change the weights when they are on the INSIDE of the holder is tricky! I was having to lift one side up at a time to load them and was kind of nervous about it falling off. Plus, like Liann said, you can't load a LOT of weight on the inside. Here is a pic of what it looks like with plates on the INSIDE...

Does that make sense?
I am definitely going to have to pick up a longer bar. Darn! Michele, hope this helps. YOU NEED THE RACK! :7

man i want to kick myself. i went to one wal-mart and they had the $50 one that inclines and had the leg curl/extension and preacher curl attachments. then i went to another wal-mart and they had the gold's gym one with the squat rack for $134. if i had only held out a little longer i could have saved up. i still like the marcy one i got. i live in a very small apartment anyway but i still wish i had gotten this one. it looks so awesome.

Kassia, I am assuming you have put it together and used it since you say you like it??? Is there any way you can return it? The Gold's Gym set up IS pretty big.

Michelle, I LOVE my walmart set. DH loves it too. We've had it now for 3 weeks and we now work out together with it, which is a big bonus. I can lift heavier for chest press and I'm up to 75 lbs on squats. It makes such a difference. I'm having great results in my legs lifting the heavier weight. I also like the leg attachments and preacher curl attachment on the bench. For my cathe workouts, I'm using the bench instead of the step for bench exercises and I like it so much better. Go for it!!

Tess, me too! I used the bench yesterday for back work (pull-overs with BB & DB's) and liked how the bench felt on my back instead of the step. Felt like I could go deeper too. I can't wait to try it with chest work. I haven't had a chance to use the attachments YET as they are still sitting on the floor waiting to be attached! Ha! Maybe we will find time to do that tonight! LOVE MY NEW SQUAT RACK SET-UP!!!!

It is a great piece of equipment for the price. It seems to be very well made. My only problem, like some of the other posters, is that I need to purchase a longer bar. It is also a bit large, but that is okay if you are really taking advantage of it and have the room.

well i had it set up for a few weeks before i found the other one. so all the boxes etc were tossed. well since the gold's gym one is pretty big i dont' feel SO bad b/c i barely have enough room to keep this one out of the way for cardio LOL. is very similar to the gold's one just doesn't come with squat rack. and for $50 i though it was worth it. i just love doing leg curls with it. and its been a good option for my chin ups that are in amy's APX without have to set up chairs or risers LOL. its a nice set up though.

Hi Michelle. I am still loving this weight bench and use it 3x a week for both lower and upper body. I used to squat 65lbs (or less) because that's all I could safely lift over my head. Then DH was helping me but that became kind of a pain because he'd have to stand behind me the whole time. And now that I have the squat rack, I have slowly increased my squat weight to 113lbs. Who knew that I could squat that much!?!?!

The "good deal for the price" gets better and better every time I use it. I love everything about it!

Thank you ladies. Yes I need the longer bar also..and more weights..and..more and more-lol!

My workout today included squats and since I couldn't go heavier, I practiced on getting a fuller range of motion with a lower weight, per some advice on another board--that was a butt burning workout}(
