To ride or not to ride???

My sister-in-law asked me and my husband (her brother) to go on a bike ride with her this Saturday. It's the kind of ride that you register for $15 and then you get a lunch and can watch a Three Stooges Film Festival there in town or can go shopping in the town. It's not a race but the shortest path you can choose is 13 miles (round trip). It sounds really fun but neither of us has been on a bike in at least 10 years. I went looking for bikes last Saturday and just with testing some out my butt was still sore on Sunday. We really want to start riding but should we start with a shorter trip on our own or should we attempt this. Also, how long do tires last on a bike?

Thanks,
Kimbra

DH and I took a 25 mile bike ride years ago while not thinking of how we would do. We just wanted to do it and we did. It really wasn't too bad, but later at night we had to crawl up the stairs to get to our room in our cottage since our legs were not use to all of that.
Several years later, we did a 14 mile bike ride with our children who were under 10 years of age then, and we had no problems. And this is before I got into working out so I think you will do just fine.
Have fun!

Go for it!! 13 miles is really nothing at all. Especially if it is on a bike path of some sort. Are there any major hills? That might be your only challenge is a steep hill. Regardeless you walk if you had to, and you only have to go up once, the other direction is down:)

You will have a blast!
