Hi Fitnik

(I was worried you might miss this in your post so I have started a new one).

YEA :-jumpy !! another Londoner in Cathe's forum a very big Hello. Here is my story.

I came across Cathe website a year ago but as she only does NTSC tapes I didn't think I could use NTSC tapes here. It was soo sad I would watch the samples and feel so left out as I know these were just perfect for me and didn't know who the family would react to me migrating to the States I didn't think they would take it well as I would only be going so that I could use her tapes.

Then a good friend and his Amercian wife pointed out to me that many new VCR's can play NTSC tapes. There I was at midnight on a Sunday night(I couldn't wait)fixing up my machine (I had previously ordered Stott Pilates tapes by mistake they sent me 2 NTSC tapes).

I was :-jumpy for joy when it worked. The next day the first thing I did when I got to work was order her tapes first cardio then a few months later weight tapes (I was one of those women terrified that if I used weights I would bulk up like Arny.

Where in London are you I am currently working on Tottenham Court Road soon to move over to Waterloo.

You will love Slow and Heavy its good challenging (too much at times) but you will see good results and Cathe is a great motivator.

Keep on stepping.

Hi,

I rarely post these days and when I do it's the Fitmoms forum (I'm 6 months' pregnant). Welcome to Cathe.

I live in the Greenwich area of London.

Keep in touch - post at Fitmoms though or I'll miss your post!

Email me if you wish.

In Greenwich

Hello,

I live in Catford, not far from Greenwhich. Do you ever go running (maybe not now that you are pregnant) in Greenwich park? I go there during the summer quite a lot when i used to live in Deptford. I love it there because there are hills - great for sprints.

I hope you don't mind me joining in like this, but i am exited there is another person not too far from me who knows of Cathe.

I have most of here DVDs and used them interchangebly, cardio one day, weights the next etc.

I would love to hear from you.

RE: In Greenwich

HiKimyenchu,

I'm not Fitnik but I am in London, hate jogging (although I did it in a gym where I was working we had a very cute male instructor who was soo enthuiastic I couldn't let him down). And we had fun (jogging related only).

Sorry I'm also nowhere near Greenwich and mainly exercise at home.

Contact Fitnik at pregnancy forum she doesn't post regularly, but its easier to get hold of her there.

Hello Babs,

Where do you live? How are you finding Cathe for home? Isn't it great? How did you hear of Cathe? I found her while searching for fitness videos or something about home fitness on the web and came across www.videofitness.com. It just snowballed from there really.

I remeber when I first bought her tapes and, my god, it cost a bomb to have it shipped to this country. The second time I bought them, I asked a friend to bring them back to me from America since he was going over there to work for a week.

I work out with her nearly every day now, but I find MIS and Power Hour and BodyMax weight sessions quite tough, but I am improving by the day (the upper body work is hardest - I didn't realise I have such weak biceps).

Hope to hear from you soon.

Running

I am not a runner either, but I do try it for some variety. I tried running again last week and I found myself much improved from last year and I think this is due to the weight lifting I did with Cathe.

I think Cathe said that running helps to lean you out so you don't build bulk, so I think I will try this more.

You should try it to see if you have really improved your fitness levels.

RE: Running - sorry this is long

Hi

Its lovely to hear from another Londoner :-jumpy

(Having problems with my system this may become a triple post)

My story is like yours I found Cathe by accident when looking for fitness vids (the home market is appalling), at first I didn't think I could use her tapes but when I did I was soo happy.

The shipping is a nightmare, it is handing being that she uses UPS as I can work out when the goods are being delivered, so that I can pay the tax when the goods arrive.

I tend to buy in bulk I spent a fortune on my first two orders don't have all the tapes but its easier to say what I don't have

Circuit Max
Cardio Kicks
Mega Step Blast
Wedding video
MIC & MIS

I also love Cathe's style I find some Amercian instructors a bit much, Karen Voight is very deadpan and Kathy Smith I find too "up" if you know what I mean (being very British here). I find Cathe has the right balance of instruction and enthusiam and I love the fact that she says she isn't going to explain moves too much so that when you do the tapes over and over you won't be put off (I started stepping with Keli Roberts but found the breakdowns irritating after I had done the tape for a year)

I live in Park Royal (near the Hangar Lane gyratorty (sorry for the appalling spelling)and at the moment I am working near Warren Street tube at the end of the month I will be moving to Waterloo for work.

The other reason I don't jog is because where I live in the evenings is pretty deserted and there have been quite a few muggings.

RE: Starbuck

Hello again,

I am doing the PS rotation but my problem is different from yours I find the chest and arms okay (the weight I am using is challenging for me)actually thinking again I have had to lighten up on my biceps I was lifting 16lbs but I have had to reduce to 10lbs this week. Yeah I think I have the same weak bicep syndrome. Let me know how you get on.

I have a problem with my left shoulder but training with weights has helped it hugely.

My legs are a different matter problems with my left knee but I am taking a supplement I found out about on the forum.

RE: Running - sorry this is long

Hello Babs,

I love your story. I understand what you mean about jogging - I am short sighted so I can't jog after dark as I don't like to wear glasses when I exercise and in an area where it is dangerous, you don't want to go out.

Well, I have MIC and MIS but I don't have the others as they are older and are not on DVDs, I had to have DVDs because it is easier to rewind and mix and match and besides since I figured everything was going to be on DVDs anyway............ You know her DVDs are multi-region so it plays on PAL player, but I bought my DVD player multi-region from Richer Sounds and it's not expensive £99.00

You are welcome to preview the MIS and MIC if you want before purchasing.

I would love to know where you got your weights. I bought mine from Argos: one dumbell/barbell set for £50 and an extra dumbell for £25. I would like to have a bicep curl bar now. The most difficult was buying the step. I finally found one for £69.00 + 2 free Reebok step videos.

You know this might seem a bit cheeky and you don't have to agree if you don't want to, but I would like to keep corresponding with you. My e-mail is [email protected].

Looking forward to hearing from you. We can swop information and maybe be able to buy stuff together to save money in the future.

Other instructors

I have some of Karen Voight's videos, The Great Weighted Work Out and Engery Sprint. I think the weight work out is quite challenging and it's a good break away from heavy weight sessions: no matter how much weight you lift with Cathe, when you go back to this one, which uses light weights, you'll find that there are some exercises that you struggle on.

I never Kathy Smith as I think she is for beginners mainly, like Jane Fonda and most of the instructors on the market in the UK. I have one Keli Roberts, but again it's for beginners, I liked her in Cher's video so I bought this one.

Have you heard of CIA and Christy Taylor? She is apparently excellent on the step (even better than our Cathe). Her tapes have lots of intricate stepping and quite dancy. I would like to get my hands on one of her videos: I am thinking of buying it from CIA website.

Speak to you soon.

RE: Running - sorry this is long

Hello Yen,

I would love to swop information, my email is [email protected].

Firstly I bought my weights etc from the Physical Company and I have there catalogue at home with a price list let me know if you would like to have a look at it.

They had an offer for a barbell sent at £54.99 for the bell and a set of weights. I bought my step from Lileywhites (I was in bed recovering from an operation and they deliver I bought the Reebok step because I had a Forza step previously and I don't have a lot of room to exercise in so I needed a small step).

Also I will let you into another secret I there is a shop I just adore called Active Arena where I get my fitness clothes. It is just dandy they stock a very small range of fitness wear USA PRO, Danskin etc I get on very well with the owner. Unfortunetly they are not on line. I would if I could buy everything.

Email I check my mail 2-3 times aday.

Yen

I have CIA tapes I have one Keli Roberts boxing tape, Sherri Jacquelyn, and Janis (can't remember her last name)all boxing I had another step tape but I lost it.

I have Karen Voight tapes and lots of Reebok (love Gin Miller).I lost a few tapes recently when we did some redecorating at home, amongst them was Great Weighted Workout. I was too frightened to get Energy Sprint after buying her floor workout which I still can't even begin.

The only problem I have had buying from CIA is with our postal service a couple of times I have had to collect parcels from the post office because of import tax.

RE: Other instructors

Babs,

Which floor work out of Karen Voight is that? Energy Sprint is a breeze. It's like Cathe's Wedding work out, I think, consisting of a step session (40 mins) and weight with light weight and abs (I like doing Karen's abs work outs).

Do you have Reebok's Intense Moves? I have heard such good things about that one (it's supposed to be like Cathes IMax).

Did you buy all of these direct from America? I know with Karen there is a UK distributor.

I hate the import duty I must admit and it's what is really putting me off from buying more tapes. I think I'll just have to wait till my friend goes back America for work and get him to bring them back for me. I am also trying to figure out a way to over this tax burden as much as possible.

You don't by any chance have any FIRM tapes do you?

Great Weighted Work Out is a definte recommendation. I can probably re-record this for you.

RE: Other instructors

Yen

I can't remember the name of the tape its a hi/low floor workout but I tended to use it for the abs section. All I can remember is that Karen work this horrible floral thing in the vid.

Intense Moves I bought direct from Gin Millers website (all the shipping costs in the price I didn't have to pay tax) I don't if the has changed recently.

I haven't any Firm tapes but in the rotations I notice there are a lot of their tapes used so if you do get them let me know.

I would love the to have Great Weighted workout again, I am planning my winter schedule at the moment. I finding it hard working out 6 days so I am cutting all my rotations down to five.

I'm 35 (36 in Jan) I don't know if that is part of it or if my old problem is coming back (fibriods) last time I had them I was falling asleep everywhere.

Get your friend to bring them over a good place to look at tapes is Collage videos at collagevideos.com (I get one of there catalogues let me know and I will send it on to you).

That is check them out before he goes and then put your order in.

RE: Other instructors

Babs,

I think which one you mean. It wasn't that popular with exericers on video fitness web site so I didn't buy it.

I know about collage videos too. I think you can order from them direct and they send it via air mail or snail mail and it takes 3 weeks to get here. I don't know if there is a tax after that (I will have to check with the post office).

I wanted to ask you if you have tried out Cathe's Rhythmic Step and what did you think of it? I really really like it. It's v. intricate movements and fast pace (I am putting a recommendation that she does another more like it). I have done Power Max and it's not as fast as this. I am learning Step Works, haven't tried Step Fit yet though: I am still v. new to Cathe, I just got the Cardio Hits DVD and PS (haven't started on that yet).

I am 30 this year so I am stepping up the exercises as I get older and also because I work in IT so I hate sitting down all day, every day (some days I don't even move from my desk). Hence, I need all the exercise I can get. I don't do it every day if I don't have time, but I try not to go for more than two days without exercise.

E-mail me directly at [email protected] and we'll see what we can do about getting you another Great Weighted Work Out. Have you tried the video exchange forum on www.videofitness.com? I don't know if any of these people is willing to post one to you from America.

RE: Running - sorry this is long

Hi All fellow Canadians....
I live near Toronto...but noticed your posts about getting Cathe tapes via USA...if you are not alreafy aware there is a Canadain site where I get all my videos in CDN funds and shipping is between 3.95 and 9.95 CDN depending on how many videos you buy....
It is called CKSales out of Alberta...his name is Jack and he is great...I receive most of my tapes in 3 to 4 days from time of order...
Just a thought to avoid duty and US exchange!!!!
He has just got the new Cathe videos too!!!
