To all runners

I recently (8 months ago) began running...ok, jogging, after a 20+ year hiatus ;). I love that I can wear my running shoes outside and run through puddles and mud and not care that they get dirty...not like my studio shoes!

Here's my question: how do you all clean your shoes? Mine have mesh uppers and some leather, but are not totally leather. Can I throw them in the washer? Or do I just use a wet brush?

To clean them I just run in the rain!....:)...j/k. I have read before that throwing them in the washing machine does break down the shoe. I think the wet brush is a better idea. Or maybe one of the cleaners you can buy in a shoe store like Famous Footwear....HTH

I do actually throw mine in the washing machine but NOT the drier. I'm sure that it screws up the mechanics of the shoe but I haven't really felt the difference. The only time I do wash them which is very rare is if I trail run, or street run in the pouring rain. Not that I care about the mud but I do care about the wetness from the rain. I've noticed in the past when I don't wash the rain water out they can smell kinda moldy and I just think that it is kinda gross.

I don't wash my running shoes. I try to keep a pair for inside and a pair for outside. But when I run outside its spring/summer/fall anyway so they won't get that dirty (only in the spring) The few times I have ran outside then past winter, I just wore my old shoes cause I didn't want my new ones to get dirty. Your shoes should be changed quit often anyway so I wouldn't worry about cleaning them...just buy a new pair!;)
