Tired of shopping

Being an Olympic shopper (I've won shopping triathalons in my day), I never thought I would be able to say that I'm tired of shopping.

But I went to get fitted for my stepmother-of-the-groom dress on Saturday, and saw the color for the first time (silver gray). I then had to go out and buy shoes, a bag and jewelry to match. The seamstress said I should buy a strapless corset bra, so I had to spend hours trying on those painful things. So I've spent 2 days already.

It now occurs to me that the corset bra is silly. It's terribly uncomfortable and it adds nothing. So now I have to go buy a regular strapless bra and I guess some Spanx. It dawns on me that I can't wear pantyhose because the shoes are open-toed sandals. Another day shopping. That's my entire Labor Day weekend!!

I also arranged for hair and make-up people to come to my house the morning of the wedding, I have to have my hair cut next weekend, I have 2 more fittings.......

When did it all get so complicated? For my wedding, I don't remember doing any of this. I had a mispent youth as a mall rat, and when a Jersey Girl gets tired of shopping, you know it's too much already!

How's your weekend going?

Shopping is fabulous when you are browsing with no real agenda or expectations. then you can be delighted by your discoveries.

Shopping for an event such as a wedding where you have a specific role to play limits your options and very much pre-determines your agenda. Then you find you have to visit upteen stores to find the exact thing in the exact hue you need.

I don't know what spanx are. Could you not forgo the leg wear and use a mild self-tanner at home a few days before the date? This would go better with open toe sandals.

But I hope you enjoy the wedding in the end: after the actual vceremnoy, people let their hair down, undo ties, flip shoes off....

I've been online shopping all morning and yesterday for home school curricula, sheets, and window treatments for our bedroom (labor day sales, you know)

We've also spent a lot of time and $$ at Home Depot in the last month.

I AM SICK OF IT!!!

Our credit card is screaming and if Cathe makes some sort of announcement involving some sort of pre order, of course I'll have to shop some more. ACK!

Hey Nancy!

I was going to suggest that you take your temperature, but then read the rest of your post and saw that it was all about NECESSITY shopping. 'Nuf said!

Nancy,

I love you girlfriend but read through your post and you see a few:

I had tos
and
I shoulds

The complications were all because YOU thought you HAD TO and YOU SHOULD. So, the answer is: It became complicated because it HAD TO and IT SHOULD be.

In other words, it didn't have to be complicated. Nothing ever HAS TO be a certain way. We chose those things because somehow we think they're right :)

Try to relax and enjoy!

It's true ladies, you are right! When something fun becomes a necessity, it loses all of its levity! Anyway, I did great today, thank goodness.

I actually found a strapless bra that fits great! Unheard of, I know. And the Spanx was way too restrictive, but I found this Donna Karan "body smooth" thing that is almost weightless. I love modern technology. :D

I know, Maggie, my budget is hurting too. A lot of my purchases have made sense, but I could kick myself for spending extra at that spa on my cruise. The stuff they sold me is making my face break out. What a waste of money. x( x( This whole year is breaking the bank. Next year, we go on the austerity plan.
