Tips for flabby arms/back/love handles

I consider myself to be fairly fit, and have some muscle tone. However, the backs of my arms are flabby, and where my arm joins to shoulder/back, there is what can best be described as "bra bulge." I also have sort of a muffin top/love handle area developing around the back of the waist.

Anyone have suggestions for ways to firm up the BACK of the body? Btw, I have the following Cathe DVD's: Core Max, Muscle Max, Low Impact, Body Fusion, Cardio & Weights. I just ordered KPC + Legs & Glutes, Low Max and Jari Love's Ripped to the Core. I LOVE Cathe's stuff! It's so fun, I look forward to coming home and putting in one of her DVD's!

it is common for these areas to carry extra fat. the best way to take care of it is to burn, burn, burn. add another cardio day or two in addition to your strength training days. you can burn fat lifting as well as cardio, but you have to hit it and what better way to do it than with cathe!

i love KPC, MUSCLE MAX! (i adore the pain and it will hit everything!) and BOOT CAMP! CORE MAX will be great to strengthen your core and tone those muscles. :) you won't go wrong by alternating cathe's videos and training every muscle group. muscle burns fat too!it will all culminate in a fantastic body if you stay dedicated.

best way to get rid of the extra giggle is to get hot and sweaty (3-6 times a week, 45-60 mins) depending on how much you're looking to lose. pay special attention to those areas you're targeting during strength training and get demented about working those target zones. }(

I'd recommend kickboxing .........a couple times a week to 3 times a week. It does wonders for all of the areas you describe. Total body workout. Wear 1# gloves for even more toning/tightening, or if you chose not to wear gloves, really concentrate on punching hard and recoiling hard. You will get sore if you do that.

I have a question regarding this same type of problem - does anyone think 3 Imaxes a week is too much? Of all the cardio Cathe has, these are definitely cardio burners. But she did say with Imax #1 to put 2 days between...So what do you think?

The pretzel exercises in Fluidity hit all those small muscles in the middle of my back like nothing I've EVER done before! You could probably do them without a barre if you sit on the floor by a window sill or other sturdy ledge.

If you want me to try to describe these moves, let me know and I will.

Oh - and I know I'm odd, but I didn't lose weight or layers of fat until I decreased my cardio. Too much cardio had me cannibalizing muscle tissue. Though I would say 3 IMAXes a week is too much simply from an impact on your body perspective. That's a LOT of high impact.

I'll be walking the Komen 3-day (60 miles) the week after Cathe's RT. To view my webpage or make a donation go to: https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=202302&supid=166016627

If you tend to be a bit top heavy, I would do heavy strength training for the lower body to balance out your figure. For the top half of your body, I would stick to light endurance training. You can't change where your body holds fat, but you can build muscle in other areas to balance out your overall appearance. Another idea is to develop your biceps to balance out the total shape of your arm. I would go extra light on triceps and upper back.

ETA: Also, wear 3/4-length sleeves and tank tops instead of cap sleeves and short sleeves. Your bra should have a wide elastic band in the back instead of a thin band. I have the same problem.

Clean eating, consistent lifting (heavy) & cardio. Change up your routine frequently, both for the lifting and the cardio. The equation is really that simple. Now doing it and sticking to it is a whole different story ;)
