Have a great THURSDAY:):)

Deanie, LOL at the title! I totally missed it yesterday  ETA yay for DS!!! Way to go out with a BANG! Any winter sports in the works?

Gayle, how long has it been since you've had bangs? Would you like to share some pictures? :p

Jane, last night's workout looked fun! How did you do on the slam balls? It took me 4 1/2 minutes to get those nasty things done, but I felt good when I did - even if I still have a hard time walking this morning. ;)

Marcy, I hope that you are doing okay. I miss you!

We had a lot of fun at the park yesterday! The trees are so beautiful!!! This is my absolute favorite time of year. THE BEST! The leaves smell wonderful, look wonderful, the air is perfect (it was yesterday - 68*), there was nobody else there... I felt like yesterday God set up just for us. :D I love those moments.

Today is a rest day for me.

I have a question for you guys. For the winter I would like to try a different rotation. And really stick to it. I will stick to a rotation fully just once darn it! I am absolutely determined. I want to try something I have never done. Have any of you done P90X? What did you think? Marcy, I think I have read that you've done it a couple of times over at VF. What do you think about it? TIA

Have a great day guys! :) :) :)

Melissa:: glad you had fun yesterday:).This is my favorite time of year too...
I for one, did not like P90X, although I know I am in the minority( I think if you do a search, you may find my rant about it:eek:). Tony was okay, it was the program I didn't like. I liked Cathe's cardio better and subbed for that...Plyo X was okay...I did do ETK all the way through and really liked it. I know I got stronger with it and I will be doing it again after PTTP.....just my 2 cents....after doing kettlebells and full body exercises, and non traditional cardio, I don't think I can go back to isolation exercises, definitely not 3 months worth....

enjoy your rest day!:)

That's what I'm afraid of, but I do want to try something different to shake it up a bit. How is ETK different from SIM?

Good morning!!

I got my Daily Dose of Bliss last night from Eion. Good stuff. :)

Deanie - Enjoy your rest day, you earned it! Congrats to DS! Have fun with your Mom. :)

Melissa - Your day sounded wonderful...I love days like that. :) I did the P90X Classic rotation once. I like Tony and his personality, but it was hard for me to keep that kind schedule (but I'm rotationally challenged). I did make some pretty good strength gains. I do really like some of the individual workouts, but probably wouldn't do the whole program again.

Like Deanie, I'd have a really hard time going back to isolation work.

Jane - How are you feeling today?

Waves hello to Marcy and Rhonda.

I'm hitting the gym tonight. The plan is to do some heavy back squats, then the following WOD if I can commandeer a treadmill:

4 Rounds
* 5 Man Makers
* Run 400m

Have a great day!

ETA: Melissa - I've been growing my hair out to one length for the past 2 years or so. Before that I had what could best be described as a Butch...seriously.

Hi Everyone!

My butt is sore today!! That workout has hard. I was originally running my sandbag (22lbs) but then I read the directions again it said "carry". :) That made me feel a little better. I haven't done overhead walking lunges in ALL time! Yikes!! I had issues because there was no way I was going to do walking lunges with my 25# ball so I used my 10# instead. I had to switch to a light ball on the 100 slams at the end. There was no way I could do 25# on all 100!

Deanie ~ Enjoy your rest day!! Glad you DS won his last game. Have fun with mom today!!

Melissa ~ Enjoy your rest day!! I have P90x but I have never done it in a rotation. I have only done them as individual workouts. I'm not a big fan of Tony Horton. He's fine in small doses. I don't know if I can handle him every day! I'm not a "rotation" person. I just have a basic plan and work around that.

Gayle ~ Bangs! I have side bangs which I like, except when I workout. I look like a 16-yr gymnast with tons of clips in my hair to hold it back. I have a freak out if I have hair in my face when I workout. Have a good workout tonight. It looks fun!!

Marcy and Rhonda ~ Miss you guys. Hope all is well.

This is the workout I am attempting tonight:

Barbara

Five rounds
20 Pull-ups
30 Push-ups
40 Sit-ups
50 Squats

Hi Ladies!

I'm BAAAAAAAACK! Sorry I was MIA. Been busy a couple of days and when I was going to post on Tuesday, the forums were down. Here's a brief synopsis of my week:

Sunday - 3 chins
Monday - Physique 57 Classic - Another barre workout. Everyone kept raving about this one but I didn't feel as challenged as I thought except for some plank and pretzel work. Pretty good workout but I like Ultimate Advanced Cardio Barre better.
Tuesday - 3 pullups; 4 chinups and Reach by Kari Anderson.
Wednesday - My first kundalini yoga experience - Journey Through the Chakras with Ravi and Ana. Kundalini definitely isn't my thing. Didn't get that great feel good vibe like I do from other yoga but it definitely is good to help with breathing/endurance. It seemed like they did breath of fire with every pose and the poses didn't seem to do much for me.
Today - Ultimate Advanced Cardio Barre - Really enjoyed my workout today. My arms were fried with just 2# weights and I couldn't even finish all the reps!

Yesterday our expansion water tank blew and we had a mild flood in our laundry room. Another bill we didn't need! It's amazing the markup plumbers charge. My DH went to Home Depot to check out the cost and they were a fraction of what they charged us but at least we didn't need a whole new water heater.

On the good side, I've lost 2 pounds since last week. I'm probably going to stick to low impact workouts for awhile longer. I'm enjoying myself and seem to be eating less.

Deanie/Melissa - Hope you enjoy some personal down time after all the running around you've been doing.

Deanie - Yeah for DS! Is the bar mitzvah this weekend?

Melissa - Burpees don't bother me as much as they used to. Of course, I probably don't do nearly as many as you did.

I have done P90X twice (well, almost twice - I had to stop a couple of weeks before because I was moving.) I enjoyed the rotation. Definitely helped with strength - never did pullups or chinups before P90X. Cardio wasn't as intense as Cathe but not intended to be. The first time I stuck with Plyo X to see how much I improved with the workout over time but the second rotation I switched things up and did other cardio. Believe it or not, P90X was what got me back into doing yoga. I really didn't like Yoga X but once I started looking at other yoga, I never looked back. Even though it's called a recovery week, recovery weeks aren't light. Core Synergistics is a tough workout and it's done twice that week. I found the second month workouts much tougher - Chest, Shoulders & Tris and Back & Bis. These were my toughest workouts. I managed to do clapping pushups by the end of my rotation. Back & Bis has some really tough pullups in it. Ab Ripper X got pretty boring after awhile and lots of times I didn't have time to do it after the strength workouts. (4DS core workouts are very similar to Ab Ripper X). I like Abs/Core+ from the P90X+ workouts better - more variety and more fun (has standing, sitting, lying and hanging moves).

If you're looking for strength/definition, you will get it. I didn't really lose any weight with P90X. I was really hungry all the time. These workouts also take a lot out of you. I was especially tired the first week or two. You can choose between doing 8-10 reps or 12-15 reps. I did the Classic rotation with 8-10 reps. There is a Doubles rotation which has more cardio. Lots of people thought it was light on the leg workouts. Basically there's only one leg workout (Legs & Back) which is mostly non-weighted and a little yoga based and the rest of the leg work comes from Kenpo (kickboxing), Plyo X (Intervals) and yoga. This is where I really improved with my chinups/pullups; I guess because my upper body was rested enough while doing legs. I didn't do nearly as well with the pullups/chins during Back & Biceps. I really needed the extra rest. P90X+ is more endurance based and no lower body workout except for some moves in Total Body.

Jane - Barbara looks brutal! Hope you make it through!

Gayle - Did you hear Eoin's coming out with a new DVD - Happy Hips? This one is definitely on my wish list. Enjoy your bangs!

Sorry for my long post!

Waves to Rhonda!

4 Rounds

* Run 400m
Hey, that's Manmaker Monday from... some crossfit site I can't remember now. I have kept that on my Workout To Do list but haven't gotten to it. Will you let me know how you like it? I was really interested in doing that one. :)

Marcy, I felt the same way after I did Kundalini! I thought "We have established that this breathing technique is important, and we need to breathe deep, and I AM BREATHING... is this IT?!?" I was so disappointed because people spoke so highly of it. I thought maybe I wasn't doing it right, so I tried it again but after researching it and trying again with an open mind I still hated it. Kundalini + me = YUCK. :p

Thank you for the description of P90X. With my schedule I don't know if I can do it, the workouts sound long. After working out for at least an hour (it has been probably a year since I have even worked out for more than 40 minutes- Jari Love not included ;]) doing all of that intense lifting I imagine it would probably drain a lot of energy and leave me feeling very grumpy and unhappy during the day... did you find that to be true at all?

Jane, I always feel good when my butt is sore because it lets me know there is more than just junk back there  Have fun with Barbara, she looks like a real doozie! Do you make your own med balls or buy them? I found this link from crossfit that shows you how to make your own. I am going to give it a try when I outgrow my... I am almost afraid to say the weight of my ball because yours is so heavy... my 12#er :eek::eek:

Have a great one,
Melissa

Melissa - It's been awhile but I think I might have been grumpy because I was so exhausted and hungry. The workouts are all about 60 minutes. Back & Bis was 52 minutes (the shortest) but somehow it turned into the longest workout for me since I needed lots of extra rest between exercises. After each strength workout (3x a week), you're supposed to do Ab Ripper X (another 15 minutes). I occasionally pull out some of these workouts (just did Core Syn a few weeks ago) but I don't know when I'll feel like doing a full rotation again. I'm more into total body workouts now and not into splits (one reason I cancelled STS).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like kundalini. I hear so many raves about this. I don't understand all the fuss. At least it's something I don't have to waste my money on.

Marcy

melissa:: really quick: etk: 2 exercises for the first 4 weeks: swings and tgu
next 8 weeks, 2 exercises, a push and a pull, the c&p and pullups in ladders, and you top it off with either swings or snatches...definitely NOT as easy as it sounds. well worth the money and the time and never did more than 50min of workouts even on the heavy days....

waves to everyone
have great days

missed ya marcy!!
