Those darned Boo Bags!

Am I the only one who hates being involved in what I term "silly little exchange games"? I love the holidays. I think Halloween is a blast. But, I don't want to play these games between co-workers and neighbors.

Last weekend, on my front step, was a package that I had been boo'ed. I had 24 hours to reciprocate anonymously to two other neighbors. Today, there was a boo bag on my desk at work when I came in. Honestly.......I don't need or want the candy snacks.

I feel kind of caught between a rock and a hard place. If I don't put the silly "boo" sign on the door, the sender thinks I'm a party pooper. If I put the sign up on the door, but don't participate, it feels like lying somehow.

I really am a friendly person but I put this type of stuff under the same heading as chain mail.

Okay...vent over. ;(

A Boo Bag is a small bag of candy and other treats. Attached to it is a picture of a little ghost along letter that you have been Boo'ed for Halloween.

You are supposed to hang the ghost picture on your door to show others that you have already been boo'ed. This way you won't get hit twice.

Along with the ghost sign, you are supposed to prepare two Boo Bags of your own. Photocopy the letter and ghost sign and deliver anonymously to two other recipients.

Hope this helps.

Our old neighborhood did this, but it was called "ghosted" and a ghost would be placed on your door with a bunch of goodies in a basket on your doorstep. I just added everything to the trick-or-treat bowl. Good way to get rid of candy, etc. My kids get a kick out of it the whole thing. We were actually bummed that where we live now doesn't do it. Hmmm, maybe something to start next year.

I got one on my front porch last week. It was really elaborate and well thought out. I drover all over the neighborhood trying to figure out who delivered it (looking for the ghost on someone's front door). No one (including my closest neighbors) had one. I also asked every one of my friends if they had delivered it. Again, no one. So, I ate the candy and drank the wine and that was it. I didn't pass it on.

Oh, Mercy!! I hope that doesn't start up where I am!! I hate chain letters more than just about anything (pet peeve!) and this sounds like a much more annoying version of those pesty things.

Although if it had a bottle of wine.....;-)

I could deal with being Boo'd with wine... but candy just seems a little unnecessary. Aren't we all struggling with it this time of year anyway?

But wine, that trend I could get into!!!! :9

Wine?!

The kids got coloring books and little Halloween toys, too. It was pretty elaborate.

Bring on the wine!:7

We used to have this happen every year. (treats, not wine, darn). When my daughter was older and didn't want to participate, I would actually but a Boo ghost on my door before anyone Boo'd us so it looked like we were already Boo'd. Is that terrible? It's just that we would get Boo'd and then not be able to find someone on our street who had not already been Boo'd. I didn't have the time to drive all over to find an empty door of someone who would enjoy getting Boo'd.

I love fun and partying as much as anyone, but I despise chain letters...this doesn't sound like fun to me. But the wine...thank God we don't have this here...yet...

Okay, it's settled. I'm staying here in NYC. I just spent an entire dinner trying to convince my DH to move out west, to Colorado or Arizona, and he said I wouldn't last a week. A boo bag could never happen here. I'm sticking. DH was right. :+

That's funny Nancy. Why not California? :p

I've never heard of the Boo Bag- or, for that matter, a Poo Bag! But I could deal with someone randomly giving me a bottle of wine on my doorstep...;-)
