This is me today :*(

Egads! I hate those things. I usually get mine right in the very corner of my mouth and everytime I yawn or open my mouth to eat it cracks open--OUCH!!

I used to get those alot...but now I use a prescription called Famvir, knock's them dead..:)...Carole

Darn things. I still get them but not as big as I used to. I get a prescription denavir - a topical treatment- that speeds up healing. Also I think someone here gave me the idea to use tea tree oil and it really help speed up the healing also.

stupid things really.......

Ask your doctor for a prescription for Valtrex. You take it at the first tingle and it prevents the eruption. Seriously, I used to be plagued with these things, and nothing works like this!

(Knock on wood, you know I'm going to get one now that I've said this!!)

Marie

OH! I get them too. I'll have to write some of these recommendations down. Cuz everytime I get one, I wish I knew what you guys used!

For those that take prescription meds (not the topical ones), is there any concern over liver damage? Tha'ts what's been keeping me from getting a scrip.

Here's to FAST healing!

Hi ladies,

Thank you for your sympathy ;)
As well as your suggestions.

I actually had a script for Valtrax about 2 years or so ago - and hadn't gotten in one in over a year.... Well due to some stress at work and home - this one popped up and it is quite big...yuck.

As someone else said - here's to speedy healing to all.

Foods with a ratio high in lysine and low in arginine help keep them at bay.....best bets are usually dairy (yogurt is on the top of the list). If you are vegan other options are Mangos, unsweetened applesauce, apples, pears, dried apricots, avocados and figs. You can also buy the amino acid Lysine separately as a supplement (500mg daily).

This is for those not interested in the prescription route;)

HTH,
Robin

ETA: Foods such as peanuts, chocolate, raisins, some grains, especially wheat they have twice as much arginine as lysine and can trigger an outbreak. No peanuts and chocolate for me!

Just a word to the wise.

Cold sores spread easily. They love mucous areas of the body (eyes, mouth and genital area). Wash well and be carful of others.
