This is kinda scary...

Okay, that's ridiculous! And prejudiced, and insulting and... well, shoot. It's the government.

I just heard this on "The View" this morning. Well we are #1 for obesity. I think they have good intentions to help cut this problem down, however, I think they should focus on the "All You Can Eat" Buffets first and as was pointed out how are they going to determine if someone has a medical condition. I see "LAWSUITS".

They should outlaw the way foods are manufactured in this country first. I mean, saturated fat, high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, etc. should be banned, but government doesn't want to take on major manufacturers. I am insulted by them not allowing "obese" people into a restaurant. It's totally prejudicial and very subjective. It's going to shame these people instead of encourage them to become healthy. And it's going to foster a very judgmental attitude. I'm totally against it. And I hope that other states don't jump on this bandwagon.

Hmmm...interesting.

I'm guessing this is a reaction to the fact that Mississippi has had the highest obesity rate in the country for at least the last two years (they've been in the top 10 for more than that).

It must be cheaper to ban the overweight from restauarants than it is to actually address the problem correctly - health education and gym class in schools, preventative health care, access to healthy foods.

I wonder if there's a correlation with the fact that Mississippi also has one of the highest poverty rates in the country as well. Maybe the representatives in that state should start addressing that issue first.

Oh wonderful MORE humiliation! Let's drive obese people into their homes so that they can fall into deeper depression and eat even more to help sooth themselves.

It's scary that someone even had the nerve to introduce something as ridiculous as this into legislature. It's scarier that someone actually feels that the way to solve the obesity problem is to deny food to overweight people. What is WRONG with people?

*steps off soapbox*

There is a direct correlation. Foods that are the unhealthiest are the cheapest. I paid $5 for strawberries today, and I read yesterday that it is supposedly berry season. Produce, health foods, etc. are SO expensive. I still cannot afford to buy all organic produce. It's no wonder that the poor can't afford healthy foods. You do what you can with what you have. If Mississippi wants to help it's population it should offer incentives for those who want to become healthy instead of shaming and embarrassing their population.

In a state where reading, writing, and arithmetic (at least in terms of the educational system) are optional I wonder how they will figure out BMI.. Anyone who has been to the delta knows there isn't much to do aside from eating, drinking, and swatting mosquitoes.....

WTF! What the heck is the mentality behind this? Ummm how does this stop me from ordering take out? This is on the same line as racism. Would they have a scale at the front door?

Wow.

<<I'm sure it won't but what does it say about elected officials??????>>

It's easier to draft asinine "smoke and mirrors" legislation like this to distract voters than it is to take on the real problems...because those are hard...and require funding...and don't make good sound bites.

<And here I thought it was smaller government they wanted...no, it's smaller constituents!>

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!

The politician behind this idea gives new meaning to the phrase "no brainer"...What kind of person actually thinks this would be good legislation?!? I'd be so p.o'd if this clod were my representative. Hopefully someone will start a recall petition.

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

This is downright cruel!

I imagine the restaurants are fighting this one. There are a lot of people in this country with a BMI over 30 and that kind of legislation would really cut into their customer base. There is also the humiliation of having to determine a customer's BMI before seating him/her.

Yikes! is right.

I was SURE this was an April Fool's joke but apparently it's for real? UNBELIEVABLE. I wonder if you have to jump on a scale on your way into the restaurant and have a nurse check out your BMI before you can cross the door. OOH OOH I KNOW they can test everyone's blood pressure at the door and not allow anything salty at the tables of those over optimal range. And everyone will have to pee on a little piece of paper to be sure their blood sugar is optimal before they are served.

UNBELIEVABLE! Thanks for posting this link, I'm halfway between outraged and ROFLMAO...
