A search dog found him! Bless the wonderful people who spend so much time and energy to pursue a hobby (most search people are not paid) that is very costly and requires so much training.

That's wonderful.

A mentally challenged boy disappeared around here a couple years ago and unfortunately, they didn't call for the search dogs until hundreds of people had tromped through the woods in a disorganized search effort. The boy died. I'm so relieved for everyone involved in this case.

Yes, I saw this earlier around lunchtime and it made my day! Thank God it was a good outcome.

From the father's interview, 2 things saved this boy's life: his Boy Scout training and his love for a book called "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen. My son loves Gary Paulsen's books and the "Hatchet" series is a great one. It's about a teen age boy who gets stranded in the Canadian wilderness.

Of course the kid made a major mistake by leaving camp without telling anyone, he was going to hitchhike home.

I was also very relieved to hear he was found safe. What a great and happy ending. You just have to love those rescue people and dogs.

However, I have a question for all you parents. After you are done celebrating his safe return, do you punish him? I was thinking, if he were my kid, he would be SO grounded. That was a HUGE mistake he made, purposely leaving camp by himself. He caused worry and risk for lots of people, not just himself. What would you do?

About the punishing - I highly doubt that this boy will EVER do something like that again. I think his ordeal was punishment enough.
