The "what goes around comes around" challenge

Maximus

Cathlete
A fitness challenge for the soul.

Realizing that I'm seriously lacking in patience & on occasion can be too short or maybe too bitchy to people, and being a firm believer in karma, I decided that each day I will do at least one nice thing for a stranger. Whether it's opening the door for them, or letting someone in front of me in traffic, or letting someone in front of me at the grocery store who has fewer items than I do, etc. etc., I'm going to try to build myself a karma bank account.

Anyone else game?

RE: The

Laura! What an excellent idea! Doing this will make us feel sooo good. I'm in!

RE: The

Ooooh, I'm up for this one! I try really hard, but I know some days, when my bitchiness factor is set at High, I can be really truly impatient and sometimes downright nasty.

Will we check in?

RE: The

I am with you on everything but letting cars in front of me... They can wait patiently, I was there first. :+
Just kidding! That is an awesome idea! I have been practicing it for years, though and am already a perfect person. But I will cheer you on!:7 :+

RE: The

I have been trying to do this latey. There are just some people that annoy the he!! out of me though. Rude people. I know it is hot but for crying out loud. People cutting in front of you when it is obvious that you are standing there or pulling out in front of you. Grrr! I am up for this too, so count me in. :)

RE: The

Hey Maximus - check out the kids thread. It's not too late!

I'm definitely up for this one - I find that when I behave with the "karma bank" in mind - it makes me feel good even if people are not always kind in return.

I studied Buddhism and the whole karma concept for awhile because I was tired of being impatient and bitchy to people just because they were jerks. It makes me feel like EVERYONE is a jerk - so I get cynical.

It's so much healthier to think and act with compassion. Even if someone is rude to you - it's easier to feel sorry for them in their misery than to get irritated with their attitude. NOT that I'm always capable of following this...in fact, rarely. So I'm with ya on this challenge! :p

RE: The

Yes, Maximus. It is nice to be reminded to behave this way. I try to get my family to do unto to others.... it helps. Just like smiling; it is contagous (SP?).

RE: The

Who knows Joni, maybe we'll be frazzled stressed out mommies after all. ;-)

OK we'll have a daily check in. Someone will have to cover for me while I'm on vacation next week though, & I'm nominating DebbieH b/c I have the feeling she's already doing this anyway. :)

RE: The

What I great idea. I am trying to listen without judgement, being understanding and compassionate, this will be hard around PMS time, but I will try anyway.

RE: The

I'm in! I try to do it anyway but it works a lot better when you're reminded of it. Because we tend to forget so quickly when someone cuts us off!}(

RE: The

It's a great idea Maximus! I have tried this several times in the past, only to be completely beat down by a long string of bad luck -- which leaves me wondering -- WTF?! Maybe I have such a huge Karma Debt that even my good deeds come back to me as bad!

I think one lesson I need to learn is that people may not notice my kindness or return it -- and that is fine. Alrighty, I'm up for the challenge (again)!!!

My good deed of the day: Told a guy friend at the gym that he looks really great! Yesterday was his birthday and so I asked him how old he is. When he said 41 -- I was shocked. I told him he looked 32 or 33. And it's true, he does! So does that count as a good deed?

Shonie

RE: The

Yes, it counts as a good deed, but it doesn't count for the challenge......it has to be a stranger. I hope it'll be contagious, like Judy said. Like that movie, Pay it Forward. I think if everyone here does it we might actually make the world a better place, even if just a tiny bit.

Even if it's just smiling & saying hello to a stranger in the mall or on the sidewalk it counts, b/c it'll make their day a little nicer. :)

RE: The

Ok, I hereby take back the serious horn-laying that I committed this morning at the woman putting on her makeup while driving and consequently going 20mph then 45mph then 60mph then 20mph....GRRRR....x(

Make-up lady: I publicly apologize for startling you }( I sincerely hope that the red gash of lipstick across your face was not my fault. (where's the halo smiley?)

It was out of concern for your health and others that I honked. Especially my health. My mental health.

Ahhh -- ok, zero balance in the karma bank - time to do something nice!

RE: The

I'm in. July 1st is day after tomorrow. I hope PMS is easing up some. Today I just feel like I need to be in a cave by myself.

RE: The

O.k., I am in too.
(1) I can't stand slow drivers so I will try not to tailgate anyone! LOL!

(2) I am going to scream out something positive out the window next time I see someone jogging. LOL!

(3) I won't be so fussy with my children and DH

(4) I won't leave the car on "E" for DH

(5) I will make a nice breakfast for my children tomorrow

hey, 5 is enough as I am not going to be like Mother Theresa or anything.

Charlotte~~

RE: The

I'm a firm believer in Karma, too! I'm just waiting for it to come back and bite a few choice people in the a$$!

I'm in for the challenge, although I do try to be as nice as possible to everyone!;-)

RE: The

OMG, you guys crack me up!

Charlotte, I am fairly certain you are ALREADY in the same category with Mother Theresa, lol!

Joni, I feel your pain. Yesterday this woman totally cut me off and I thought I was going to get out of my vehicle and do her physical damage! I was hoping she was turning in at the same place as me just so I could look like I was following her and scare her to death! LOL

So I will apologize for riding on her butt and giving her the one-finger hello EVEN THOUGH it was totally her own fault. hehehehe.

I am up for this challenge. Karma gets me every time.
