The WGACA Challenge--6/30/05

OK I haven't had much of a chance to do anything nice for anyone today b/c I've been stuck at my desk. I did tell my dogsitter she could use my beach house during the week but that doesn't count since she's not a stranger.

But last night at the gym I helped some guy remove a bunch of 45 lb plates from the bar on the squat rack that someone else had left. He was very appreciative & I felt like some kind of saint. :D

My cashier at the store today overheard me talking to someone else about teaching. I gave the cashier advice on how to go about getting a job, as she just finished her student teaching. She was very happy with my advice and thanked me.

I want to join in on this challenge but I won't be able to post one each day. I am a medical transcriptionist and work at home so I am not out of the house during the week except to go to the grocery store on Thursday. Before caller ID, I could probably not hang up on telemarketers but I don't answer them now. :9 Maybe I can double up this weekend and make up for it.:)

I was asked to comment on a colleague's performance today. Some of the work he has done for me has been less-than-stellar. Normally I would provide this information in a direct manner which sometimes comes out sounding very critical. Instead, I took the time to talk out his strengths first, indicated the issue I had without any emotion, and then gave some suggestions on what I thought he could do to improve the skill.

My thought was, "What would he think if he overheard me having this conversation?"... I wanted to say something I would not feel bad about saying to his face.

ETA, it took much longer than just giving my opinion, though! lol
