The Village (partial spoiler, if you haven't seen it)

I watched this movie TWICE yesterday. At my sister's house in the morning, then I borrowed it to show my husband last night. I really liked it, but had to chuckle because it never occurred to me that I was supposed to think it took place in the last 1800's. I think I must have been looking away from the TV the first time I watched it and didn't see the dates on the tombstone in the opening scene.

I really liked it and thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to set up a town like they had. Sans the "Those We Don't Speak Of" dudes. That's just kind of mean.

My husband and I liked this movie too. We saw it a little while ago and I either didn't see it or just don't remember the dates on the tombstone.

My husband and I saw this movie last summer and I really liked it but he didn't care for it. He said it was boring. I didn't see the dates either but I did think that it took place back then and was really suprised when it was revealed at the end. It was typical M. Night Shalaman (?spelling) to trick us into that thinking one thing and then revealing the truth just like he did in Signs. The blind girl in the movie I heard is Ron Howard's (Opie and Richie Cunningham) daughter.

Good Movie.

OH! I think I heard that too, now that you mention it. I really liked her. I just loved that scene when she's sitting on her porch with Lusius and gets him to admit that he's in love with her.

I don't know why I didn't think it was the 1890's. I think I thought they might have been Amish for a little while.

Sorry, but I'm confused. If it was supposed to be in the 1800's, why is everything present day when she escapes from their little area and finds the police?

It's only the 1800's in their compound. That's what the elders wanted...to keep their society innocent.

No, the tombstone said 1890's. That's how you're supposed to put you in the mindframe that it's set in the 1890's. M. Knight was going for the deception that you're watching a movie that's set in the late 1800's and then you totally get surprised that it's actually taking place in the 21st century. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who didn't fall for it. Not like I did with The Sixth Sense. He totally fooled me on that one.

Okay. If it had said 1980's we might have thought it was a typo! I probably would have missed it anyway. You figured that out? Before she crawled out of the refuge? Impressive. I fell for the Sixth Sense. That was a great movie. Signs, on the other hand, I found silly beyond all reason. :)

We saw The Sixth Sense in the theater and at the end when he walks in on her watching the wedding video again and his breath turns cold and the ring drops out of her hand the whole theater kind of "Gasped" at the same time he was realizing he was dead. I loved that movie. I liked Signs for the creepy feeling it gave me and did you know that M. Knight was the doctor in the movie - the guy that was the one that hit Mel Gibson's wife and killed her? Did anyone see "Unbreakable". That is also by M. Knight and has Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. I thought it was absolutely stupid.

Unbreakable was the only M. Knight movie that I didn't like. He always does a cameo in his movies. He was the doctor that thought the kid's mother might be abusing him in The Sixth Sense, and he was the park gaurd at the desk in The Village. I think he's kinda cute.

I did see Unbreakable and it was stupid! I like Bruce Willis though. He is cute! M Night has a touch of genius in that he can do horrifying without blood squirting all over the place. Ewwww! It's nice to be terrifed without running the risk of seeing something to induce nightmares.

Bobbi!

Have you seen Hostage yet? Bruce is excellent in it. GREAT movie and it never lets up. We made a good choice not taking my MIL to see it due to her heart problems!

RE: Bobbi!

I haven't. Rich and I saw Ray in the theatre. Before that the last was The Return of the King! We have rented a few I liked but rarely. I used to not watch films rated R for violence but Rich talked me into Collateral and Last Samurai, both with Tom Cruise. I was never a big fan but I loved him as a villain and a flawed man. Other than that I can't think of any others I have seen but I know there are a few. Tomorrow I get to see Robots with Sam!
