The strangest work dilemma I've ever had

OK so many of you know I work in town administration. So each month we have a mailer go out to every single household in town with news, event schedules, etc. etc.

I edit the newsletter after our consultant puts it together & before it goes to print. She emails me 2 pictures from the director of our art gallery today asking me if it's OK for her to put them in the newsletter.

Both pics are of people nekkid from the waist up, cut off at the neck (in other words, faces not showing, torsos only). One is a woman with 2 slices of bread on her breasts. It's called Wonderbra (OK I probably won't stop laughing over this until at least next Tuesday, but WTH). The other is of a man with a dog bone on a chain around his neck. I don't know the title but if I had to make one up I'd call it "men are dogs." :p

See, municipal administration can be exciting after all! So, this is a family publication, not to mention a TOWN publication. Before I tell you my decision, you guys tell me--what would you do?

Those are funny!
If it is a family publication, like you said, then I probably wouldn't.Specially the bread women.
Lori:)

Laugh and laugh and laugh and not publish it. :) It's funny but they are way too many easily offended and litigious people out there.

Laura,

That is hilarious! They better be paying you good for what you put up with, LOL! :7

Those are funny, but I'm with the others. I'd send them back and ask for other photos less controversial. Even if they are for art's sake, there has to be more socially acceptable examples of that art.

Yep, that's exactly what I did. Tactfully, of course. Not too comfortable putting borderline pornographic pics in our town newsletter.

They were pretty funny though. I called the consultant & was like OK Robin, is this some kind of a joke? I've never heard the woman laugh so hard in my life.

Funny, but unless your associate is from Mars, I am sure she didn't send them for you to seriously consider. Obviously inappropriate for a town newspaper and if your associate didn't send them to you as a joke, you have a bigger problem on your hands.

It is totally inappropriate and sure to offend many.

Honestly, I thought babysitting your supervisor's child on the clock was out-of-line. Sounds like your job could inspire a sit-com.

LauraMax, I used to edit and design our HOA newsletter. You wouldn't believe the phone calls I got from people complaining about the most trivial of things. You'd wonder what these folks did during the day, and how they got along with their neighbors, just from all that complaining they did over what I considered nothing. Just to keep everything on the safe side, nix those photos. What's funny to you may be offensive to the next person. And as you say, it's a family publication. One woman's art may be another family's garbage. You never know. Use other, less controversial photos.
