The No Sweets Check-In - June 8, 2005

Good morning ladies!

Isn't it great to discover that we're all sweet enough without any extra sugar??:)

Dallas - I'm deep in the belly of the PMS monster right now and I'm resisting! You can do it too! In fact, I've felt better this week than I normally do, so maybe not cramming all that sugar in is a good thing!

Whoever asked about diet soda, yes it's okay to have.

Rose - good for you for owning up to your slip, and like others said, today is another day.

Well, I didn't get my biscuit from the bakery yesterday, so I'm betting it's gonna come today. Wish me luck resisting it!

DON"T TOUCH THAT BISCUIT! Do what you talked about and freeze it until July or take it home and feed it to the dog:) Do you have a dog? I do that sometimes if its something I can't/don't want to eat. I know I know it's bad for the dog. Ok well it was Dallas and I who were wondering about the diet soda. Kim had diet MTN DEW yetserday and thought it was off limits. So dallas and I wanted to make sure we were ok as we both had diest sodas too! Thank god I didn't blow it! I have been doing so well.

Hey girls,
Here is day 8. I know it will be a good and successful one for all of us. I wanted so bad to have some of that sugary cereal my kids have, but stuck to my healthy muffins and it sucks because it is the wrong time of the month.

You were discussing sodas, and I didn't know for sure whether that was part of the deal, but I guess I made that one of my personal taboos for this month. And it kills me because my family has it for supper. But I'm resisting so far. But wait till july 1.

Yesterday was surprisingly easy for me. Probably b/c I had all of my meals and snacks lined up in head so I knew exactly what to reach for. I had an amazing dinner to look forward to (Quinoa, Chickpea, Cauliflower, Croquettes with Roasted Garlic, Nutritional yeast--and get this POPCORN instead of bread crumbs. A whole grain, high in fiber low in calories. I worked perfectly. Then I had fruit salad with stevia/cinnamon/vanilla tofu topping:9 :9 ). I was also too busy last night to think about snacking and that is always my hardest time.
So far so good today. The heat makes me just want cold iced tea and fruit anyway.

To everyone else, You can resist the biscuit/cereal/frosting, etc. You've had it before, you'll have another eventually, and really will it be worth the cardio and the guilt? We've got to really give this a chance to see results. Otherwise we're just needlessly torturing ourselves. At least this is the rationale that gets me through.
That and fruit. I'm so thankful we're doing this in summer when there is a multitude of mouthwatering fruit to choose from and not in winter when there's really only oranges, apples, and whatever happens to still be in the freezer ;(
GOOD LUCK!
Mattea

Well, I must confess to having a blueberry muffin this morning for breakfast. But it wasn't my fault! LOL! (I know, I know - you're not buying it!) I had a breakfast meeting with upper management and it was catered. All they had was eggs and bacon (that's out, since I've gone veggie), a teeny plate of fruit, and some muffins. Well, I took as much fruit as I could without looking like I was hoarding it, and then, needing more substance, had to take a muffin. At least it had blueberries in it... *sigh*

Sorry I let you guys down. But I'll do better the rest of the day, I promise.

In more positive news, I have already met my weight loss goal for the month (5 lbs) - I'm shocked. So... now that I've met my weight loss goal, can I have a dozen cookies? }(

Oh ok Shelley. ***sigh*** I'll give it a try. ;-) You know this is good that we are all doing this. With the kids out of school we've had more snack times. It's really make me more aware of all the little bites here and there of their sugary snacks that I would have had normally. I think the biggest temptation so far is when I'm serving them a bowl of ice cream after dinner. I usually would finish or have a taste. Not this month! Maybe I'm more addicted to sweets than I thought!

Thanks Shelley for starting this. Oh goodie I can still have an occasional Diet Coke. Cheers Terri. Yippee!

I'll have to check in more frequently to get through this terrible week of PMS.

Okay, there's a cranberry biscuit sitting on my desk, calling to me. I'm going to wrap it up and put it in the freezer for July - *weeps*x(

I just had my snack....one cup of Silk chocolate soy milk. After I finished it and was thinking how good that was..... I ran to look at the label... 19 gm. of sugar. Crap.... does this count?

Even plain skim milk has 12 gms......

I've been a good girl! I even met a friend at Rockne's last night for dinner and passed up my normal Oriental Salad that comes in an edible sugar/cinnamon bowl! Waaah! I wanted one sooo bad and that is what she ordered. But, when we left there, I smiled inside and said, "You did good Deb!! 22 days...but, WHO'S counting?

A SUGAR CINNAMON BOWl! Oh my that sounds good. Way to go! I love that combination so my hats off to you!

Terri

If I had a lowfat blueberry muffin for breakfast is that messing up? Are things that have protein and fiber and good nutrients with sugar okay? I think I remember it was just junk food right? If it is bad the muffins I need to stop.

kim

I think everyone is doing what works for them. I'm interpreting the challenge as blatant sugary junk food like kids' cereal, cookies, cakes, ice cream, candy, etc. I don't even count the teaspoon of brown sugar that I put into my occasional morning oatmeal as cheating!

Angie

I guess it depends on the muffin, Kim. Is it a high fibre blueberry muffin, with lots of whole grains in it? Or is it just a regular blueberry muffin that's low fat. If it has lots of whole grains, etc., I would say it's okay. If it's just a low fat, regular cakey blueberry muffin, I would say not okay.

Does that help or just confuse you more?:p

I could not find nothing like that in my muffins. So I guess I made a booboo. Well they will stay put till july. Well that was a slip up. But I am still on track. And god I wish those kids would get the fruitloops out of sight. I love them.

I think my bran muffins are okay.

kim

Almost through another day.... I am going to consider the Silk choc soy milk okay.... it's milk for goodness sake....

I just bought a TON of fruit at the store. It looks delicious and i am not craving anything sugary! My basket was full of fruit, chicken breas, egg beater egg whites, brown rice and water. the check out girl looked at me and said "i don't know how you always eat so healthy! is any of this stuff good?" I told her i had to get used to it but now it's great!

jes:)

I am still doing well here. It was the last day of school and the students know me a little too well. I got 3 boxes of chocolates (the Hershey's pot of Gold ones), a box of chocolate truffles and a gift bag full of M&Ms, Skittles, gummy bears, etc..., and a gift certificate to Cold Stone Creamery (YUM!).

I am putting it all away, or giving it away. I am not even tempted! I am still not eating very clean (a Wendy's hamburger for lunch, but only 4 fries), but this is FAR, FAR better than just 9 days ago!
