The 'new' Upstairs/Downstairs

So, I have started watching the new Up/Down and am enjoying it. The reviews I read about the one vs. the original series were pretty horrible- almost downright inflammatory! Having said that, I have not seen the original so I guess my opinion is neutral.

Who else has seen both and what are your opinions? Just curious whatcha think.

do you know what the gist of the mixed reviews is? What are people geting their knickers in a twist about? I was a child when this series first aired in the UK and never watched it. Am I missing out on a great remake?

Hi Clare,

The main complaints were the characters weren't developed as well, the oppulance just wasn't the same or as ... oppulant, the story line wasn't as deep.

Now, I did watch the extras/making of last night and perhaps the complainers didn't. The Director even stated that she had hoped this was the beginning of more of the series. It was a total of three episodes and the original stated it went from 1971-1975- so no wonder there wasn't as much development.

I am now totallly compelled to rent the entire original series just to see if I agree or not. So take THAT you complainers!!
