The New DVD's

:-( I really don't want this to sound like a negative post but I am very dissapointed I won't be able to purchase the latest workouts. I have a VHS/TV combo in my gym equipped area. Is there anyone else who will be prohibited from purchasing the new workouts because of this? I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who still only have VHS in their workout area and are equally disappointed. While I can afford the new workouts, I can't afford to purchase a DVD at this time. It is my wish that Step-in-Motion hadn't decided to go DVD exclusive from this point on. I think they may have jumped the gun a bit.

That being said...I apologize if anyone is offended by my statement.

I was completely unaware that VHS format was eliminated. I was disappointed as well because my workout area is setup for VHS. I did not want to buy a new DVD player for my workout area. I have one in the family room already.

I hope we are not the only two people on the planet with VCRs! ;-) It would be nice if Cathe and crew would reconsider...I realize that you cannot please everyone but this request doesn't seem that extreme. Maybe I am misinformed?

I feel the same way, you aren't alone ( at least I hope we aren't ).
I only use VHS and hoping they will make these up in VHS As well.

I feel for you all. Since I discovered Cathe and DVD workouts, I will only purchase a workout if it is on DVD. I have probably missed out on some good workouts because they weren't offered on DVD. I have a DVD recorder so I was able to take some of my older VHS workouts and convert them to DVD. I love the flexibility DVDs give me as opposed to VHS.

A suggestion, if you really want the new DVDs, you could purchase them, copy them to VHS. When the time comes you do purchase a DVD player, you will have start on your DVD collection.

I wanted to ask you what the brand and model of your DVD recorder is. I would like to convince my husband to eventually take all of my Cathe tapes (I have all of them) and put them on DVDs. We are DVD recorder illiterate. Which is funny because I do not have any trouble with the computer...:eek:
Any information you could provide me would be so helpful (hints, advice, whatever :) ). Thanks again...I am still hoping that Cathe will reconsider...but if they will not, at least I know where I stand.

DVD players have become extremely affordable and you can purchase one for under $100 now.

If you are using Cathe's workouts on a regular basis I think that you would enjoy the format, the flexibility, the premixes and all of the chapter points.

I highly recommend converting to DVD if you can afford to make the initial purchase of the DVD player, simply because you will love it and never want to go back to VHS!!

I still have my VHS player and some VHS tapes, but hardly use them since converting to DVD.
 
Hi Melissa -- We have the Sony RDR-GX-7. It was a bit pricey when I bought it (they are coming down a bit). I really like it as it is user friendly. I bought a Philips brand first and could not figure out how to connect the darn VCR to it (the instructions were not real clear and I'm pretty techno savvy). Took it back and bought the Sony. You can also play back DVDs on it as well as record (as with all recorders). The extra DVD player went up to the bedroom.

It would save you tons of money on replacing your video collection with all of Cathe's DVDs (that's a good justification). I also like it for recording TV programs that I really want to see but won't be home to watch.

Hi Melissa! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! The quality of the recording from the video is better than the original video!

I had another thought that I wanted to share with you. Before you decide on a recorder, make sure that the DVD player you would be using these recorded DVDs on are compatible. For instance, my recorder uses DVD+RW, DVD-(minus)R and DVD-(minus)RW. My new Panasonic DVD player that is in my workout room accepts all three of these DVD types. On the other hand, my DDs older Sony DVD player (the player is a little over 2 years old) would not accept the DVD-RW disc but will accept the other two types. Check the manual of your existing DVD player to see exactly what disc types it will accept. With the variety of discs that I've mentioned above, I'm sure you wouldn't run into any problems. I just wanted to make sure you were aware that it could make a difference.

DVD players are extremely inexpensive. You can buy a VCR and a DVD player at Wal-Mart for less than $100! Also, you can link your DVD player through your VCR so that you can still use your VCR. I have a VCR and DVD player where I exercise and in the bedroom. The DVD player where I exercise I bought over a year ago for $47 at Wal-Mart when the more expensive one broke down. I'm sure that it is cheaper now. DVD players are great - with movies on DVD, you get so much more than the movie - deleted scenes, gag reels, and information on how the movie was made. One of the "techie" salespeople at the Best Buy near me said that VCRs are in much less demand - they only had two brands for sale!! I've read that we may use microchips in the next 5 years instead of DVDs - with even more information!!!

All of our productions from now on will be DVD only. Currently, 75% of our sales are from DVD and it just doesn't make much business sense for us to continue releasing new product on VHS and carrying double inventory.
 
Can you put in chapters where you want them when recording from VHS with the Sony? I would love to make put all of my VHS workouts on DVD, with chapters...

Since this will be the case from now on, will you be releasing the wedding tape (or any other older tapes) on dvd?

Hi All! I'm getting here late and I know that Chris has already mentioned our reasons for switching to DVD exclusively. I just wanted to add that I understand your disappointment and apologize for the inconvenience it has caused some of you. If we could have found a way to make it cost effective to carry both we certainly would have but unfortunately this was/is not the case. We're hoping that since the cost of DVD players are now quite reasonable, it will help to ease some disappointement. Take Care
