Yesterday I ran a 10K. The weather forecast did not even mention rain for the weekend. When I woke up in the morning, it wasn't raining BUT it was thundering/lightning. I figured that be the worst of it....
Well, I got downtown to the capital. The race was the Texas round-up - which was started by the governor. (I think he actually runs it too. Sarah Ferguson did the relay with his wife.) It was sprinkling but not bad at all. The weather turned unusually cold for us also. It was 49 degrees (I know that's not TOO cold but here in Austin - it IS!) and the wetness from the rain didn't help. Half the people were in sweats and long sleeved shirts and the other half were in shorts and sleeveless shirts/tank-tops. I was in the latter group and freezing my a$$ off. I figured I would warm up after the first mile or so.
So the horn goes off and I swear, the minute we start running the rain starts pouring like crazy. It poured the WHOLE time. Well, I am very dependent on music when I run. I listen to hard, heavy, FAST music and I really think it helps my speed. My MP3 player is not water-proof and halfway through the race it gave out. I was soaked from head to toe. (But I wasn't cold anymore!);-) I messed with my MP3 player trying and trying to get it to work for a few minutes (while still running) but finally gave up. I blame my time on that (I know - excuses, excuses...)
Anyway, I came in at 55 minutes. My goal was 53 but I suppose 55 is not too shabby. The minute I quit running, I became extremely cold and it didn't help that I was so wet, I was dripping! Then, I swear the minute I stopped running, the sun appeared! $%^&!@#!
Oh well, with all that being said - to me, a bad run is like bad sex is to men. It's still a good thing as long as I'm running!:+
