Ok, so since January 1st I have been having 2-3 binges per week of up to 3000cals in one sitting. So instead of losing weight for my new years resolution i have gained about 7lbs. I've been doing a lot of reading lately, especially on www.marksdailyapple.com I'm starting to truely believe that my body does not handle grains very well; this includes oatmeal and sweetpotatoes. I'm always hungry even if i eat a sufficient amount of cals. So, I've decided to take the no grain low carb challenge at least for 2 weeks. I have never done a nutrition plan like this and i want to see if i feel a difference. If worse comes to worse i can always go back to eating like i used to. I find that my insomnia has gotten worse as well as my depression and I'm a firm believer in trying to help symptoms through diet. I've been reading The Primal Blueprint as well as The Paleo Diet and to me this is something i can do. Now, i've choosen to keep carbs under 100 grams a day at first to see what happens and how i feel. Most of my carbs will come from veggies with some berries thrown in here or there. There are 10 basic principles that the primal blueprint follows:
1)Eat lots of plants and animals
2) avoid poisonous things (IE: processed foods)
3)move frequently at a slow pace
4) lift heavy thins
5)sprint once in a while
6)get adequate sleep
7)play
8)get adequate sunlight
9)avoid stupid mistakes
10) use your brain
I'm eager to see how this goes and i'm eager to share it with you all. So i did binge yesterday on a box of raisen bran so i'm a bit in a carb overload fog today. For breakfast this a.m. this is what i had:
1 cup egg whites
1 whole egg
2 cups fresh spinach sateed in 1 Tbsp EVOO
2 Tbsp real cream in my coffee
Now, i felt full after all of this but i noticed i craved the carbs b/c i'm used to eating carbs like bread and oatmeal at every meal. I've looked up some recipes for pancakes using almond meal which i will post when i make them. So thats all for now. I plan on keeping my cals between 1500-1800.
