The last thread about my dress

Okay. Black tie wedding. DH wearing tuxedo. I bought a gown but I just tried on some dressy cocktail dresses that I think suit my petite body better. Here are the questions:

1. Appropriate or not appropriate for an evening wedding?
2. Appropriate or not appropriate for a woman over 50?

Here are the two dresses:

I would say YES appropriate for a wedding (assuming color matches overall setting of wedding or is not an issue) and honey...I DON'T THINK AGE MATTERS! if you can pull it off and look sexy/darn cute in it! GO FOR IT! hehe:eek:;)

I think being a little longer on you won't change how it looks all THAT much on you....long as it's not hangin' to your ankles!!! teehee! :D;) How far does it go down? knees? right below knees? lemme know and I'll make a visual and see if I think it'll be ok (not that I'm saying my opinion is the only one that matters, hehe:eek:) ya know what I mean!:p

The dresses seem to cover more of me than they do of the models. They look a bit "revealing" in the pics, but somehow they look pretty sedate on me.

Now I'm wondering what the difference is between a prom dress and an evening dress? I'm thinking they are more or less the same if the prom dress is sophisticated, but I don't know much about proms. Young ladies today are so grown up!

Both dresses are beautiful and certainly dressy enough for an evening wedding. They are different than the usual LBD.

As far as age, its just a number. Go for it!!

I like the fuschia one, but I like ruffles.

Also, can you post a pic of the gown you already bought? That may help us advise you.

I think either of those dresses are totally appropriate as long as they're not too short on you, which you already said they are not. But, I have a thing about women over about 25 wearing really short skirts. I just don't think it works well. But that could be Clinton and Stacey's influence on me!

The one I bought is very simple and very appropriate, but when I tried it on the other day, it was a bit big, so I'm returning it. My DH was scandalized when I showed him the first pic, so he'll come to the store with me tonight and see me in it. And he'll take some pics to post on this thread.

I generally agree with Stacey and Clinton too. But I can't understand what they have against capri pants, and I don't understand why they say women over the age of 21 shouldn't wear short dresses, when Stacey wears short dresses and looks great in them.

I'm personally digging this dress, but it looks like it might be a little too long for you: http://www.lordandtaylor.com/eng/Wo...ersey_Dress-lordandtaylor/56129/color-56129_1

If I had to choose between the 2 shown though, I would go with the style for the blue one but in a different color. I think that electric blue is what is making that dress look like a prom dress. In a nice burgundy or black with the right accessories, it could look pretty classy.

p.s. Totally unrelated, I think this dress is so cute:

Liann, I totally agree about the electric blue color. Funny: the dress I tried on was that one in a kind of teal blue which was so beautiful the color was what attracted me. They also had the electric blue one which I didn't like. Guess I should have mentioned that.

That blue dress would be stunning on you.

IMO, the flouncy skirts just have too much fabric for me. The more fabric, the more shapeless and matronly I look.
