The Kingdom of Peep - Sat

Morning Peepettes. I’m headed for work soon. Today is a rest day, so I’ll be all ready to plop my butt down on the couch and watch Penn State annihilate Iowa. I hope I don’t live to regret that statement!

Catherine, how was the KB session?

Kel, I’ve been having trouble getting as much computer time as I like lately too. Things have been crazy at work, where I do most of my posting.

JJ, I took German all through high school and all I can remember is how to ask if I may sharpen my pencil. I wish I would have taken French though. I have absolutely no French background and can't say the simplest words.

Vilma, LOL at the nappy story. I read lots of British books, so I’m pretty well versed in the different words like jumper, crisps, bonnet, boot etc

Wendy, 10 kids!! Yikes, have fun. And yes, you wait to do the cleaning after they leave! Thanks for the recipe. I’ll have to try it soon. There were also a couple butternut squash recipes in the newest issue of Cooking Light that DD and I want to try. I’ll have to pick one up at the farmer’s market next Wed.

Laura, what kind of fruits and veggies do you love that you will miss when you leave Uganda?

Happy Saturday to any other peeps who peek in. Maybe I’ll see you later.

Robin, yippee for rest days!! I hope your day at work is less hectic!!

My KB session went well. She had me doing those bleeping wall squats between swings and stuff. For those of you not familiar with wall squats, it's not the kind where you slide down the wall. You stand facing the wall with your toes about 6-12 inches away from the wall and squat. Try it. It's not as easy as it sounds. Or is maybe just for me and my dysfunctional back side

JJ, I know you are hating the functional mobility stuff, but I would go just for that. I love the KBs but my lower body needs the FM part.

Wendy, have fun with the kiddos

Laura, glad you didn't take my comment about Africa the wrong way ;)

OK, Ellie how are ya doing on the eating??? I haven't had any sweets all week!! I wish I hadn't eaten those blasted chips on Thursday, but oh well.

Catherine- ALL WEEK!!!!???? :eek::eek::eek:
I bow in honor of your supreme discipline.
I would have started eating the wallpaper I swear!!!:D:D

Let's just say my eating has been much better than in weeks past!!!
But I am having terrible calf pain (both) after power max and IMAX 2.
What's up with that??? Won't be doing any step for the next few days.
I will try upper body though!!!

Boys are up I'll BRB

Catherine--I totally knew you were kidding. Thanks. I remember talking about it on the RT. ;)

Robin--Your question is easy to answer. Hands down, pineapple is the winner. I had some last night, and it almost tasted like candy. It was so fresh and sweet and juicy! The mangoes are also delicious. Also, I will miss the avacados. Yes, they're high in fat, but it's good fat. They are delicious in salads and as sides. I've had Texan, Californian, and Mexican avacadoes while in the States, and there is just no comparison. These are ENORMOUS and need absolutely no seasoning except a little salt. Finally, I LOVE the carrots here. Even organic carrots in the States have nothing on the carrots here. They are just simply delicious. I love eating fresh carrot sticks here.

Now, there's also a slew of stuff from the US that I miss while I'm here . . . but more on that next time.

I just finished PLB for the first time in months. While my wrist was sprained, I couldn't lift heavy enough weights to work my legs, so I was limited to workouts like B&G that rely more on reps than on weight. So it was fun to do this one. I also love that there are NO low ends. ;) :D

I'm off to a birthday party/cookout. There will be nothing healthy to eat there, but I will try not to go crazy. Wish I had some Boca burgers to take!!

Peeps!!

I got my hair cut.:eek::eek:
I went in just for a trim but decided to go a little shorter. This is a big deal for me because everyone always says, NO don't cut your hair, it's so thick and pretty. DH included. But I wanted a change. I would have gone shorter but my hairdresser thought maybe I was outta my mind and went midway instead. Seriously, her face was like....:eek::eek:

So I feel like a huge weight is off my head, thereby lightenening my mood and making me a little "snarky" today!!! Kinda feeling like I lost some hair, lost some of my inhibitions (not that I had many before) and am ready to take on the world.:D:D:D

So watch out in OD cause I'm ready to start some fun and interesting threads. I'm nosey and want fun information and good ideas and I really really want that President thread to go away. Just go away. Let's talk some good stuff. :D:D:D

Oh you want a picture of the new do????
Let's start with a before shot

Be nice, it's 7am, I am 44 and have a 4 yr old (that's my excuse for the bags and the wrinkles!!) and I just woke up.
But don't you think another 3-4 inches off would be cool???
I'm feeling "snarky" remember????

You just woke up in that pic? I wish I looked that good!! Love the hair cut and you look great!!

Laura, have fun at the partay!!

Guten Morgen, Peeps!

Ugh, the playdate is cancelled--Houdini has the mother of all head colds! My mom called yesterday around 11AM and said Houdini was getting sick. Her eyes were streaming, her nose was streaming, she kept putting her fingers in her ears...My poor baby! So I left work at 3:30PM and picked her up. Spent the rest of the evening chasing her around with a tissue. (Moms, I'm sure you remember the age where they don't get blowing their nose so they use a teddy bear and a sleeve instead? Yep. That's where we are at.) She's still sleeping right now and I plan to let her spend all day in her Curious George jammies (or, at least until it warms up.)

I got up and did the Core Max section with the medicine ball. On the agenda today, besides tissue chasing, is watching Food Network this morning, cleaning my house, and watching DH get mad when Iowa loses to Penn State.

Catherine--Those squats sound effictive and hideous at the same time.

Ellie--The haircut is FAB! I chopped mine off last year and I felt *exactly* the way you do. There's just something about shorter hair that makes you sassy!!!

Laura--I'm insanely jealous of your fresh fruit and veggies. What I wouldn't give to cook with those!!

Robin--If you have any good squash recipes, would you share them? (I'm trying to expand my selection of seasonal cooking recipes!!) I might have to pick up Cooking Light this weekend--sounds good! I got my e-mail newsletter from Whole Foods yesterday and I might try the one they have for spaghetti squash. I think Houdini, who loves spaghetti and squash, might go for that...

Be back later--gotta put the coffee on for those who need it!!

:) Wendy

Peeps Check-in

Peeps:

Welcome to the weekend! Wow! All these early peeps are up with the chickens! LOL! I have been missing in action this week, working overtime, and trying to keep my head above water.

I started the 4-Day Split rotation this week and need to put my game face on and tackle Boot Camp this morning to wrap up the first week.

I was hungry last night and craving pizza, so I went to HEB to buy an Amy’s organic cheese pizza. It is not a good idea to shop for groceries when hungry. I walked into the store and was surrounded by Christmas music and decorations. Oh my! The men in the white coats approached me and seduced me with dark chocolate covered strawberries. Yummy! This was gourmet chocolate too. Then I just had to sample all the fine cheeses. Lord, help me! I confess that I walked out of that place entertaining very bad thoughts. (I will eat, drink, and be merry through the holidays and make a fresh start in January). It dawned on me last night that my eating triggers are emotional or sentimental (like the warm fuzzy feelings associated with the holidays). It is not a particular food like sugar that triggers a season of overindulgence. It is a feeling that arouses the desire to eat, eat, eat with a passion. I love food! Why does it have to taste so good? How do I get to be one of those people who could care less about food and thinks of it simply as fuel?

Okay, I am turning around so one of you can whip my butt good! I simply cannot afford to gain another ounce! I walked 10-12 blocks yesterday to run errands for work, and my feet were killing me the rest of the day. I need a good game plan for the holidays. I historically gain 20 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I am determined to stand firm this year and at least maintain.

Robin, enjoy the game!

Catherine, I amazed that you have been a week with no sugar! That backfires on me and eventually triggers a binge.

Laura, is there anything I can send you from Texas? When are you coming back for a visit? I miss you!

Ellie, I love your hair! What kind of fun information do you want?

Wendy, I am sending hugs and prayers for your little one. The only way I know to cook squash is like my beloved Southern Grandma did (which involves flour and a frying pan). I do not think you want to go there!

Blessings,
Heather B.

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV).

ACK!!! I typed out a whole long post and lost it:mad: I hit the backspace button by mistake! Lets try this again!

Morning Peeps!

I spent the morning viewing Lauren Brooks KB dvd and I'm going to try the shorter one today. It looks like fun.

Robin~ Do you have german heritage? I know you like good german beer...me too;) I have grandparents that came from germany and would love to go there someday. I think that is why my kids wanted to learn german. I can count to 20 and know a few words but have no idea how to say "may I sharpen my pencil?" Enjoy your rest day (after work!) and I hope your team wins.

Catherine~ Those wall squats sound like they have a big OUCH factor! I know I shouldn't complain about the joint/functional mobility stuff. I do see improvement with my mobility and ROM but I'm just so excited to learn some new KB moves.

Ellie~ Cute haircut!! I love playing around with cuts, color etc... It is instant gratification and it will always grow back if you don't like it. Sorry about your calf pain. Taking some time off stepping sounds like a good plan. Hope it feels better soon.

Laura~ Isn't it amazing how really FRESH fruits and veggies can taste so much better than the stuff sitting in the grocery store. When we visited Hawaii, the fruit was so good...it was like tasting it for the first time. Have fun at your party!

Wendy~ Sorry to hear Houdini is sick:( I hope you can avoid getting it. Sending some TLC her way! I checked out your spicy squash pasta recipe. Sounds yummy.

Heather~ I totally sympathize with you. It is hard enough watching what you eat but during the holidays it becomes even harder. Sounds like you are determined to stay on track. Good for you! Plus, you can always come here when you need support, encouragement or just want to vent;)

Vilma~ My KB instructor is Andrea DuCane (Kettlebell Goddess dvd) and she is being especially careful with me since I had rotator cuff surgery 2 yrs ago. I'll definitely pass along any good tips & pointers!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

JJ

Hi Peeps!

glad to see so many faces on saturday morning! :) I took the night off last night, so will have to make up my Cathe Nov rotation workout from yesterday this morning and then my todays workout this afternoon... is that considered acceptable?

Robin: hope your work day goes by quickly and that you thoroughly enjoy your rest day with college football! sounds like a good one to me!

Catherine: WTG on your KB session and LOL at your wall squats, too! I guess that's one way to ensure that your knees do not go beyond your toes and you keep your back straighter, or you smack your nose on the wall! OUCH!

ELLIE!!! I LOVE your haircut!!! Good for you to have the "hootspa" (not sure if that is spelled correctly but sounded better than saying you had the "balls") to do it! I'm searching/waiting for all the jaw-dropping, thought provocaing, kicka$$ posts today! I have been working for the past few months to GROW mine as I had it super short (here in the desert it's a must!) and was having issues with finding a stylist that would do a good job on it (I'm very picky I guess)... so, right now I've been going completely NUTS during the in-between stage... have another 6+ months until I can do a substantially less layered bob (sorta like Liann H/C with bangs) I try this every fes years, but never get that far and in the past have gone 3 months or so and then chop it off again!

Laura: thank you so much for all the wonderful information about Uganda! I have never been outside the US (other than brief trips just over the Northern Canadian Boarder, and a quick drive through Tiajuana...) so the international experiences are very interesting to me, although I guess Uganda would not have been one of my first choices of places to go, but sounds beautiful! Hollywood often messes with peoples ideas of some of these places, especially Africa!

Wendy: sorry Houdini is sick and has a case of the runnies (eyes & nose)... it's no fun when you are 41, let alone that young... LOL at watching DH with football loss wishes (insert evil laugh here) I have had a wonderful time rubbing it in that Dallas has had some *great games* lately as he is a true-blue Dallas fan! Guess I should be tread lightly on this subject with you as well! LOL! Your workout is done so enjoy the rest of your day!

Heather: Here's 40 lashes with a wet noodle! but there's only half left because I used it to whip myself first! This week has only been on and off for my good eating, so I have the highest respect for all who manage to eat healthy and get right back on after falling off the wagon. I seem to derail for more then a day or two, but at least for the past few months, I have managed to maintain my exercise even if my eating has been less than stellar. So that's a step in the right direction! You have a wonderfully inspiring and positive attitude and that's a big part of this whole healthy fitness lifestyle change... Stay STRONG!

JJ: you are not alone on your post debacle ~ I have lost too many posts to count because I have a keyboard at the office, but laptop at home, and going between the two keyboards tends to have very bad consequences at times! I got lucky last night with one and was able to push the "forward" and got it back, but that does not always work :) and please do pass along your KB experience! I want to do it, but have so much coming up, including STS, that I want to do first, that I am going to wait to get into KB's until next spring... depending on how STS goes. but have heard of some awesome results from doing the KB workouts!

hope all Peeps to follow have a wonderful day & will check back later to catch up! :)

I'm at work and need a break. My mind is getting fuzzy!

Catherine, yeah, I think those wall squats are hard. Do you have to do them one-legged? Doesn't Cathe make us do that in a workout. Where's Allison when you have a Cathe workout question?

ellie, I love the new doo. Did you weigh yourself after the haircut?:p

Laura, you had me drooling. I've heard that pineapple in Hawaii is better than anything you can get here. Must be the same with pineapple from the country of Africa.

Wendy, bummer about having a sick kiddo. But now you can enjoy the cleaned house! I think I may try a recipe for Butternut Squash Bisque next week. I'll let you know how it is.

Heather, I can't go without sweets without having it backfire either. I try to limit myself to one small sweet after lunch and or dinner. Right now I'm loving the Giardhelli (sp?) peppermint bark. Thank goodness it is seasonal.

JJ, nope, there isn't a lick of German in me. My DH has a bit of German in his background. I'm a mix of Scot and English on my mom's side and all Armenian on my dad's.

Dani, more power to you for doing two workout in one day to keep up with a rotation. I usually just skip the one I miss altogether, or give up on the rotation. LOL

OK, back to work I go.
