The Great Scale Mystery!

WOW two posts from me in one day??!!! lol..
I'm wondering what IS IT with scales??? I have an old scale at home, very basic..and on this scale my weight is between 134-140 (on my bloaty days lol) . Well I went to the doctor yesterday, and they have one of thoes huge upright scales.. anyway.. on their scale i'm 150lbs!!! WOWZERS!! I know scales vairy by a few pounds... but 10lbs??? WOW... Now I know, not to base my fitness gains/losses by the scale, but it is a helpful tool for me. But now I'm wondering who's scale to go by, and WHY on earth there's such a huge difference in my weight on the doctors scale, and the one I have at home.

I don't know what the deal is with scales.Could it be that they are just suppose to be for extimiates??? A estimating scale..that sounds nice:) On my scale I am 129.When I went to the Dr.s office I was 135 lbs on a normal scale. Then when we went away on our trip, I worked out.In the workout room there is a scale, just like the Dr's scale and I was 125 in the evening. So,your guess is as good as mine.I just know that I fit into my clothes..and thats good enough for me:)

The time of day makes a difference, plus what you're wearing. My official weight is taken once a week on Saturday AM right after I wake up and have gone to the bathroom. Then I adjorn to the basement and hop on the scales wearing only my underdrawers.

My weight on a doc's scales later in the day when I have on more clothes and after I've eaten and had stuff to drink will be about 3 or 4 lbs. more. So if you weighed 140 at home and 150 at the doc's, that sounds about right.
Just Do It! :)

Scales are just something to go by once in awhile. I Hardly step on mine anymore. I used to weigh everyday years ago. Then more recently once a week on Saturday Morning. Sometimes even less. I have my scale set 9 # above what it says because I set it for what the scale says at the doctors office. I have found those vary as well. I go mostly by what I see in the mirror. I just use it once in awhile. Sometimes I will go wow, I thought I weighed more, and others I will be less than I thought I looked like. We do have a scale that stays closer to the ones in the doctors office. I just know it is ok for whether or not you gain or lose a pound. And to help focus on goals.

When we are at the MD's office, we are clothed, have eaten once or twice and have taken in x amount of fluids. At home, we usually do the weigh in first thing in the morning, empty stomach, empty bladder, as naked as we can get, and exhaling as much out of our lungs as possible. Then, if it seems high, we take the ponytail holder out of our hair and try again.:7

What Sarah said and never more than once per week, avoiding it if it's at or around the time of the P and never taking it too seriously since scales are fickle and lie to play with your head.

Happens to me every time...

I take the doc's scale with a grain of salt since I only get weighed once a year, and everything is different from when I weigh myself at home....:)

..and don't forget to remove your mascara as well. I don't think i will ever see 115 lbs!:) Maybe when I am in a old peoples home and have lost my muscle tone! Then I won't care how much I weight;)

The other thing is, try moving the scale to another location. It varies every time. I can lose two pounds by moving mine as little as two inches! Always great for a pick-me-up...

I do not even own a scale I just get weighed once a year at my doctor's office. They say if you weigh yourself at home the doctors offices' scales are usually 5 lbs more. I was 147 last time and 137 this year so 10 more to go but not too concerned I am 5'8.

In my personal experience, the double beam scales at the dr. office & in health clubs are rarely accurate, b/c they're supposed to be calibrated once or twice a year & almost never are. If you want to test the accuracy of your dr.'s scale, just bring a 5 or 10 lb weight w/you next time & see how it measures up. Plus it'd be worth it just to see the look on the nurse's face. :7

We have a scale here at work from like 1972 & it's the most accurate I can find.
