The Friday goofies!

As you may know, I'm a French prof. Today, in one of my classes, I was asking students questions and having them write answers. The questions were in the " imparfait" (a past tense). One guy (who has insulted other students on more than one occasion, called them "uneducated oafs" and laughed in a very mean way at their errors and definitely lacks social skills-I think he may have a slight case of autism, but don't see how that fits with his "arrogant about being arrogant" attitude) kept saying things like "I don't remember such-and-such when I was 10," "couldn't you ask a different question?",etc., in very snooty voice.

Then I asked them "Quand vous aviez 15 ans, quelles émissions de télévision regardait votre père?" ("When you were 15, what television shows did your father watch?") Again, Mr. "Constant commentary" had something to ask: "How do you say 'I'm almost embarrassed to say'?" Without thinking much, I answered: "Écrivez ("write") 'des films pornographiques'"

The students who were in class with him last semester, and know his personality (he's also VERY prudish), started laughing uncontrollably, as did some of the other students. I was fine for about 10 seconds, then it hit me, too, and I couldn't stop laughing...and I had 4 questions to go. We finally calmed down, but he didn't make any more comments about the exercise after that!

Kathryn, I would LOVE to come to your class one day. What a treat that would be! I'll bet you're the greatest--at least you are around here.

LOL!!!!!:7 :7

Cute story, Kathryn.

P.S. In college, I was required to be fluent in a language in order to earn my degree in the college of liberal arts. I chose French, but was awful at languages. I managed to graduate (even though the language classes dragged down my GPA), and then forgot French as quickly as I could. Not too long ago, I came upon a cassette tape of me speaking French for my "final" in my last year. It was amazing to hear myself speaking fluent French, especially because I couldn't understand a word!!
