I haven't tried it, but it looks interesting.

Unfortunately, I think it will be like other recent Firm equipment (like the Transfirmer) and never have any more workouts made for it again.

Do you mean it works like a 'stepper" (stair-step type equipment) or like a 'step' (step platform, as in Cathe's workouts?). I don't think it can really replace a step--at least not using workouts other than the ones that come with it--unless you are very good at modifying moves.

thanks for posting this. i'm actually looking into trying the firm as i'm looking for something new. i was thinking of getting the wave but would like to hear more about it from others. also, can anyone recommend any other good firm workouts? i like the idea of doing cardio and light weights in one workout.

The Firm

They design a new piece of equipment and then make a video around it. How many different "steps" does a person need! I got their fanny lifter and then when they made that step that each side can fold down to make it inclined, I quit the Firm. And now the Wave...Geez. Just my 2 cents.

I hope it works out for you.
I find that knee pain can be aggravated by different types of torque, and if a mini stepper is hard on your knees, I'd worry that this could be even worse.

I looked at that one before I got my step, "The" Step, I hope you post your results if you decide to get/keep it, the wave comes with a workout routine too, I think, like calendar or something? Not to jones the post or anything, but I looked at the Body Bar vids for a similar reason, whether or not to get a fixed weight bar or two (like the Troy Bars) or barbells like the Troy-lite set for LIC, Did anybody do Bodybar strength & conditioning or total body express? always weighing versatility...of the purchase vs. price;)

ITA.

What gets to me is that Gaiam, which runs The Firm, totes itself as a "green"" company. Not with all the plastic junk they pump out.

ITA!

If they'd stick with one piece of equipment, it wouldn't be as bad. IMO, the Transfirmer is pretty good, but they never made any additional workouts for it (that I'm aware of) after the first batch. Instead, they went on to some new gadget. (IMO, with the Firm, they've become more focused on the gadgets and equipment and the DVD's are almost just an add-on. Equipment must have a higher profit margin).

One of their Firm kits comes with a ball that stinks to high heaven of some kind of really toxic stuff outgassing. I had to get it out of my house ASAP because even when it was in another room, after two weeks, I could smell it!

I think that before Gaiam became Gaiam (it used to be Seventh Generation, or SG was one of the companies subsumed under the banner of Gaiam), it WAS green and Earth friendly. Now, it's often more about appearing green and MAKING more green for them.

I know exactly the ball you are talking about!! My cats love to play with all my equipment, and that ball smelled SO bad I was afraid to have them around it.

This is possibly my worst fitness investment. It sits in a corner unused. The workouts are that great and they'll never make new ones for it. I wish I had saved my money.

I was a long time Firm believer before I found Cathe. For the past few years, I feel their workouts have really gone downhill. They have begun to gear their workouts toward beginner exercisers. The wave is fun at times, but it is not worth the money as often as I use it. The workouts are not all that challenging.

I have taken the Wave class at The Firm. As w/the TF, I wish Gaiam would make more Wave workouts. I even used the wood prototype while at The Firm. I haven't purchased yet. Waitin' for the price to drop!

yea wait for it to show up at Target...that is what I am doing! I have noticed that The Firm post Transfirmer has made quite a few videos with only dumbells. No step at all. I have done a few and they are pretty good. Not hard like the old Susan harris style Firms but I like them.

I saw it at Walmart just today for $57.00 I used to do the Firm and got to the point where I needed something harder. Cathe is it. I would never go back to the Firm, Like the others said they make a few workouts for a new piece of equipment you have to buy and then on to the next piece of new equipment and the next and the next, etc.
