the Bean and Gliding Disc

has anyone here ever used the bean and the gliding disc's? i'm thinking of purchasing to add some variety to my workout routine. any feed back is appreciated.
thanks

I also don't have first hand experience with the Bean (although I'll admit I haven't heard the best things about it) but I am in LOVE with my Gliding system. What fun! (and totally effective!)

thanks to all who answered. the gliding system seems like it really challenges your body in a totally different way than when you do the move without. the push up moves look hard. as with the bean, . . i was only interested because i saw the "famous pizza press" move done on it and it looks like it totally forces you to have the right form, . .w hich is something i've always struggled with. again just another tool that i thought would help with challenging the body while doing familiar moves. can either of you tell me if the dvd's are fun for the gliding disc? thanks again.

My daughter brought the bean for her abds. Cheap, cheap, cheap. It's lasted 3 weeks before it started to lose air and totally deflated.

Save your money.

Hi All,

I haven't been here for weeks and was going to come on today to ask a question about the discs and see that Elizabeth has already brought it up :) What I've been wondering though is for those of you who have them do you have the ones for carpet or wood floors? I'm just confused about whether you can use the ones for wood floors on carpet.

TIA :)

The Gliding discs are fabulous: easy to store, small enough to put in your suitcase when travelling (to do lunges in all directions, 'skater' moves, push-ups, etc. in a hotel room), affordable. Though if you have carpeting, you can do the same moves with paper plates (which is what Mindy did before she invented the Gliding discs) and if you have wood floors, you can use microfiber cleaning cloths or rags.

As for the Bean: I have it, but haven't used it much. It is good for the 'bean crunch' (actually, they showed a different way of doing this in their original commercials, which is more effective than the newer way they show: rock the Bean back while squeezing your lower abs in and raising your upper body), for back hyperextensions, and for stretching. It makes ab work more challenging than on the floor, but less so than on a stability ball (but there are some moves==like Superman's/supermen?--that you can do on the Bean and can't easily do on a stability ball).

My recommendation: the Gliding discs are affordable and effective, and if you'd rather use them then paper plates or rags, go for it.

The Bean has potential, but only if you have room for it and can easily access it, and want to add a bit of challenge to your ab/lower back work, but not as much as a stability ball.

>Thanks Kathryn, . . . what do you think of the DVD's that go
>with them?
I haven't used the DVD's for a while, but in general, they are rather short, and some aren't that intense (mostly because of the limited number of reps, I think). They are good for learning the moves, and getting ideas about what you can do with the discs. Some are better than others, but I can't recall exactly which ones were my favorites (abs? glutes?).

Another thing you can do with the discs is pikes! So anyone having trouble doing them on the stability ball (or worried about falling off the ball), just put your toes on the discs (no ball involved) and pull your legs in using your abs. Less of a distance to fall if you're unstable, and still a great ab workout.
