The baby's nursery

Are any of you going all out on the nursery? Doing a theme? I have all the stuff from when I had my son which is Vintage Peter Rabbit. I'll be using that b/c it could be used for a boy or a girl. I would like to find some matching border. The walls are cream and I"m going to leave them that color. We don't even have a crib. LOL My son has slept with us since he was born. I borrowed a crib from a friend and returned it. I would like to have this baby sleep in a crib. My son was so colicky (sp??) and the only way that I would get any sleep was to have him with me. So we need to buy a crib, changing table and a dresser.

Have you ever seen some of the nurseries that the celebs have in their homes? Gorgeous, very expensive though. I can't see spending that much money.

Hi Dana,

We are borrowing a crib and changing table from my SIL. Both pieces are in near perfect condition so we figured we'd save some $ that way. My mom bought us a dresser and a chest of drawers for the room as a baby gift that is being delivered this weekend in fact. We painted the room mint green (you, that light green color...I call it "baby green" lol.) I registered for a bedding set that has farm animals on it...very cute and could be used for a boy or a girl IMO...this way I can use it for #2 also. I also registered for a bunch of the matching accessories like wall paper border, a lamp, a window valance, a mobile for the crib, etc. It's gonna be very cute but nothing was super expensive or anything.

Have a great work out!

i wouldn't say we are going all out. we have a crib already from our first ds but need to get some new things such as dresser, changing table etc. i want a nice nursery but definitely can't afford it celebrity style.

Our nursery for our first daughter cost us barely nothing, because we generously had family members buy our crib, bedding set and dresser. I chose "Classic Pooh" for the theme, which essentially extended into a teddy bear theme. The decorations for the walls were all handmade projects by myself and family members.

With this second baby, we will reuse the crib and Classic Pooh bedding. We may have to buy another dresser, or just use a bookshelf that DH built a while ago. I'm not sure we'll decorate the walls because we don't intend to be here for more than another year. Babies don't take much notice of their larger surroundings for at least a year, so outside of the crib environment, I don't think decorating is really necessary. Decorating a nursery, IMO, is really for the enjoyment of the parents. Gives us something to do while we wait for our baby to arrive :)

Cheers!
Sandra

Hi Sandra. I guess you are right...initially, the decoration, etc in the nursery is definately for mom and dad's benefit! lol I never thought about that until now!

I have to do it anyway though. I guess I just wanted a "happy looking" room for my baby....a room that LOOKS like a baby or a child's room...it's so much more FUN looking than an adult's bedroom. :)

Have a great work out!

I'm in the same boat that Sandra is in. We don't plan to be in our current place for too much longer. So we are not decorating. When we move into a more permanent place, i totally plan on going all out on the decorating. I am thinking of a purple and pink theme.

With DS I decided to do primary colors because I could not find a theme that I loved. I also did not want to paint any walls. While I was at Babies R Us I found some large wall balloon "stickers" in primary colors. The great thing is they peel off without leaving any marks on the wall and are reusable. They were pretty inexpensive if I remember correctly. I'm sure you can find all sorts of designs online or at wallpaper stores.

Right before DS turned 2 I decided to paint a wall in his room. DS was and is still somewhat into farm animals & tractors. I decided to freehand him a farm scene on his wall. The wall is about 10'x20'so the mural is pretty large. It takes up the whole wall. However if you are not comfortable doing that then there is always the option of finding a picture you like, maybe from a coloring book, and placing a blank transparency on top and drawing the shapes on it. Afterwards you can use a projector to project the image on the wall and you can trace it and then paint the images whatever color you want. Acryllic paints come in small inexpensive tubes (less than a $1 each) in all sorts of colors so you would not need to do any color blending. It is surprisingly easy.

We are only having one child and are not finding out the sex so we are going with an animal/Noah's Ark theme. I have collected elephants since I was young so most of my stuffed collection will be put on shelves DH is going to build for the top of the walls. We will use his crib if his sister's third is out of it in time.

We already bought the bedding because I found some I wanted really badly and was afraid it would not be around for long :) We are going to paint the room green and blue like grass and sky (but muted) and paint a colored elephant herd going around the room towards the crib.

I can not wait for the 13th week so we can get started on it. I will not register because I will not have any showers so we will just do it all ourselves. I think that will be kind of fun, except for the cost!

Well we live in a little 2 bedroom apartment. Our son's room is done in a transportation theme right now. I figure if we have a girl since it's all primary colors I'd add some lady bug stuff for her bedding and such. I don't think she'll care much though LOL! Anyway not much planning here. Except I will make this baby a baby quilt as I did our son, so that I'll be working on once the gender is found out. DS keeps talking about a baby sister, wink! I would like a girl, but then again brothers have so much fun together, so I'm good with whatever God decided we needed in our family. Boy it would be fun to buy pink finally though!

You guys, this is such a cute thread to read!!! Reminds me of my experience last year and all the thought and fun that goes into planning the nursery. :)
Diana

Hey Diane! It's amazing but it's almost like one turns into a kid again when one is having a baby! lol I feel like a little kid excited about Christmas morning!!! :+

Well, the furniture came and it is just precious! It is child-sized furniture...so very sweet looking! The room is shaping up nicely...we just have to play with the furniture arrangement to see what we like/what works the best.

Next on our list is the wall paper border...but we may even wait on that until after Joey is born. He will be with us downstairs until he starts sleeping through the night so that would be a good time to put up the border. We'd do it now, but most of our weekends are just packed so it will be hard to find the time to do it between now and his arrival...

Have a great work out!

That sounds adorable, Wendy! My ideal dream, if I were doing things all over again, would be to move into a house that has a bathroom specifically designed for young children, with low, small toilets, low sinks, etc. It would greatly facilitate the whole process of toilet training and teaching good hygiene.

Cheers!
Sandra

Wendy how exciting for you. What color finish did you choice for the furniture?

Sandra that is a neat idea. I was amazed the first time I was in my son's daycare with all the little potties.

Hi Dana.

The dressers we had delivered are light wood color to match the crib and changing table. They come with interchangable "plates" that you can attach to the front of the drawers to change the color scheme if you want...blue, green, black and white. If you don't use them then the drawers are the same color as the rest of the dresser. We are going to use the white ones...the other colors are too dark for the room but we will save them just incase they can be used in the future....

Have a great work out!
